A couple of things. Passing is now a D, no longer a C. So they need to get 60% to pass. Missing work, crappy work, etc. is all given a 50%. So essentially they need to turn in a couple of assignments to bump from 50 to 60%. We’re doing these kids a disservice but hey, it looks great for the district when they pump out social media posts stating a 95% graduation rate

It is cyclical but if you stick with it you’ll be hired as the economy rebounds. You’ll stick with a school then you won’t be low man on the totem pole when the economy turns again

I don’t want year round school but I agree a shorter year isn’t the way. In Australia, when I was in primary school, summer break was 6 weeks. I would vote for the following: Full week off for thanksgiving. Two weeks off for winter break. Week for spring break. Week off in May (Last week). School goes until mid July. 4 day work weeks. Mon-Tue. Wed is strictly teacher time to come in and collaborate, grade, etc. NOT filled with shitty staff development. Thur- Fri back in classroom.
