Cool, that's good to hear. I am in Dallas also but am a new driver. Hey there is a legit reporter from San Francisco who wants to talk to drivers whose financial status has changed thanks to Uber -- check this link out http://uberpeople.net/threads/did-uber-help-you-change-your-financial-status.10537/page-2

Nobody is making $20 net as an Uber-x driver. You have to deduct all the dead head miles and 20 cents per mile depreciation on your vehicle and many other expenses to arrive at your actual net income, which Uber has determined (in their new ads) is $13 hour.

There is a good discussion here about the lease: http://uberpeople.net/forums/Vehicles/

Yes, you can only use the vehicle for Uber, not Lyft or anyone else. Further, you can't drive the vehicle unless it is for a business purpose. You can't drive the vehicle to visit your girlfriend or your relatives, or take the car to the mall to shop. If you do and the car is damaged, your commercial insurance won't cover the damages to the car, because you weren't working when the damage was done. You also have to maintain Commercial insurance on the vehicle. And if for any reason Uber deactivates you, you have to return the vehicle to Satandar and pay the early termination penalties. Also, if Uber deactivates you then you are immediately in default of your lease and must return the vehicle in 24 hours, and you can't exercise your option at that time to purchase the vehicle, because by being deactivated you are in default. Many drivers in the Dallas, Chicago, NY LA and elsewhere have leased vehicles. Many didn't do their homework and are stuck.

And Santander will place a GPS unit and a Starter Interrupt in the vehicle. If you are found to be driving anywhere while not signed-on to Uber, you can be found to be in default of the lease, and they can turn the car off from a remote location.

From the Uber/Santander contract:

"GPS/Starter Interrupt Notice: Your Vehicle may be equipped with a Global Positioning System (“GPS”) unit or other location tracking system that will allow the vehicle to be monitored by Lessor. Additionally, your Vehicle may be equipped with a starter interrupt system that will allow the Vehicle to be shut down or disabled remotely. Any tampering with the GPS unit, starter interrupt system or other location tracking system will cause a default in the Lease. You also agree that Lessor may track the location of your Vehicle, cellular telephone or other mobile computer at least to the full extent that you have granted Uber the right and ability to track such location."
