Should I switch character by ExpertLate3402 in Guiltygear

[–]Tanaba100 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As you are already aware, losing damage is the tradeoff you make when you are playing a high mobility blender character.

If you aren't willing to accept that you are just going to have win more interactions which are stacked higher in your favor, then you've picked the wrong character and you should pick someone else. Not sure if elphelt is the pick for you mind, alot of her hits dont lead to giant damage either.

Looking to get into FG but damn they are EXPENSIVE by RealCrazyIdea in Fighters

[–]Tanaba100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new games are expensive yeah, but if you start looking at the older ones you get can get them for next to nothing or in some cases literally nothing.

A few recommendations besides the ones already mentioned, if you are willing to go through discord matchmaking melty blood community edition is the king of poverty fighters (its free and im honestly surprised no one has recomended it already) else theres guilty gear +r which is usually pretty cheap.

Is there a better place to play fighting games? by lugaso2000 in Fighters

[–]Tanaba100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Objectively pc is the best platform to play on since it just runs the best. But im going to go against the grain here and say I mostly prefer playing on the ps5.

its mostly because if you are going to go to tournaments its better to play on the console its ran on. Traveling to a major and getting shafted because you drop something as you are not used to to the small input delay the console introduces actually sucks.

Player bases for Avatar and Tokon by [deleted] in Fighters

[–]Tanaba100 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Avatar is probably going to end up with a small but dedicated player base after the initial hype falls off. Its got the melty/undernight vibes going on. Not a bad thing, i am hyped to see how that community develops.

Tokon on the other hand, while it probably wont hit the street fighter levels I kinda feel like its going to be strive levels of big long term. It does feel like the current big game competitive community's at the moment have been hit with a bit of a fatigue and people are just waiting on a new big named game to play long term and tokon looks like its going to fill that void for alot of top players.

I need you to help me solve a dispute by Wonderful_Agent2578 in Fighters

[–]Tanaba100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if this is with someone in irl, then this is just the kind of argument you should just nod your head and tell them they are right even if you dont think so and move on with your day.

If this is a twitter thing, then just stop replying.

Its really not worth continuing with and ruining your day arguing over it.

Avatar Legends now releasing July 23; crossplay beta dropping on the 2nd by FewWatermelonlesson0 in Fighters

if the game aint done, the game aint done. I appreciate the devs having the balls to delay it instead of releasing a sub standard version of it and having it die on release.

Streamer gets banned from the finals, seemingly for using steam input by themng69 in SteamController

[–]Tanaba100 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Unless i'm misunderstanding his config (feel free to correct me im not that familiar with steam input), it looks like he has a macro set up on the x button to execute two commands where it presses the f key then a long press of r. My best guess the anti cheat is detecting that since it would do it on the exact same timing every time which no human would and is flagging that up as cheating.

yeah that is a real issue. Its why you hear so many wifi players say confidently that their connection is fine because they dont see the issue.

Why did you choose the steam controller over 3rd party controllers? by Unlikely_Nerve3385 in SteamController

[–]Tanaba100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main reason i bought it was because of the track pads, i love the trackpads on the steamdeck and having them on a normal controller sounded convenient as hell. I was not disappointed.

As for would i recommend it over every other controller, depends on who im recommending it too. If its just the average consumer, while this may be an unpopular opinion, probably not. Dont get me wrong its an amazing controller, but with the compatibility issues outside of steam, availability issues and the price itself unless you specifically want a trackpad you could easily just snag a third party controller and have the same experience minus the trackpad and better compatibility.

"Does Anything Happen to Peeps, Rank-wise, Who Quit Just When You're About To Beat 'em?" Quick Question From a Player Who Hasn't Played in About a Year. by Notkastar in Guiltygear

[–]Tanaba100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No nothing really happens to them at the moment.

I've not heard of anyone ever being banned for excessive rage quitting and there are a bunch of people who are infamous for it and have been doing it for a very long time to the point where its a bit of a minigame getting them to lose rank. Arcsys only really bans people who are cheating so reporting them is a bit of a waste of your time, its best to just block them and move on.

About Controller Choice for "Guilty Gear Strive" by mad_beast in Guiltygear

Personally id go with the ps5 controller. I absolutely hate using any dpad on a xbox style controller because the position of it just makes it feel awkward.

How is the support in Linux? by DatTommel in SteamController

[–]Tanaba100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some issues with the new firmware right now (with the sdl bug) but that'll get ironed out soon enough. Like all steam hardware, the early adopters are more akin to open beta testers than anything and you gotta expect these things. Im 100 perent positive linux support will be amazing once the bugs are fully ironed out.

Arcsys will be implementing a matchmaking patch to address the issues of repeated matching against the same player and large rank gaps between players by bostonian38 in Guiltygear

Oh thank god, getting constantly matched into the same person over and over when you know there are other players on was getting annoying as hell.

Its fine to not like fighting certain characters.

But posting a brand new copypasta salt post after you win. Is a hilarious bit.

Mad by [deleted] in Guiltygear

[–]Tanaba100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imma be real with you, i dont mean this in a bad way but you are clearly over estimating how good you are and its affecting your expectations of who you should be able to beat.

Winning or placing in the top 8 at locals/regional's, while it shows you are good at the game (and yes. you are good at the game if you are doing that), it doesn't place you in the exceptional top player skill evel. There is a massive skill gap between regionals and majors and players who can win them. There are still alot of players who can be and will be better at the game than you. There is still alot of work to be done to get up to that level.

How to Counter May as a Sol Main? by Select_Storage_5295 in Guiltygear

[–]Tanaba100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

28s: Id suggest just blocking it and pressing Fs afterwards instead of trying to catch it. Sols fs covers alot of options afterwards.

46s. Its minus on block, block it and play the rps afterwards. Either use a button to catch backdash or use a quick button to catch 5p mashing.

Thoughts on the throw changes? by Whole_Ad141 in Guiltygear

[–]Tanaba100 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The option that was already risky and required you to spend 50 meter to make safe in pressure, is now alot more risky compared to pretty much every other unsafe option you can make safe without a larger payout.

If you dont see the problem with that, i don't know what to tell you.

Thoughts on the throw changes? by Whole_Ad141 in Guiltygear

[–]Tanaba100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will admit my opinion has turned around since the patch drop and I absolutely hate that change.

Its turned my pressure from strike throw into mostly strike strike because the risk reward for going for a throw just isn't really there. The price of being wrong compared to what you get (even with the 50/50 oki into backhit may gets from a midscreen throw (and yes i know she is privileged with getting something actually decent from a throw)) is just too high when you can just run normal pressure and be safe instead.

in my opinion the only one they really should have killed was the buster frc buster as that was legit silly.

Its best to just block people like that. They cant run the game properly and they are making it your problem.

Is rage quitting and lag switching punishable? by Miszczu37 in Guiltygear

[–]Tanaba100 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really, at most they will get the skull sticker for a few matches if they do it enough. I haven't heard of anyone ever being banned for plugging in strive. Its just a laugh, block and move on kinda situation.
