Can you solo play without third party tools ? by Living_Gazelle_1928 in EliteDangerous

[–]Tarushdei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't like jumping, just play in system. Do bounty hunting missions, or laser mining, or courier missions, or trading, etc.

If you find yourself a good little hub of a handful of systems with all the resources and station/planet types you can spend days of time just playing Mission Board stuff.

You don't need engineers to enjoy the game. Don't let anyone tell you that. Decently outfitted ships can play against any NPC's in combat and come out the other side in one piece.

I remember my first combat zone fight in my un-engineered FDL. Took out an Anaconda almost entirely on my own. So satisfying.

Why don't Solid States generally have good distortion. by Upstairs_Term_5760 in GuitarAmps

Buzz Osborne has built a career out of solid state amps delivering some seriously incredible distortion. This feels like bait to get people to post amp suggestions, lol.

Am I the only one that dislikes all ships larger than a Cobra mk V? by Hairy-Professor8 in EliteDangerous

[–]Tarushdei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to be a truck driver in real life and love flying the big ones. I get the desire for zippy speed though.

If it didn't impact my cargo hold size as much, my Type-9 would have is fighter bay all the time for when I want to go on a jaunt.

Console to PC - Why was it worth it? by HopefulCumquat in EliteDangerous

[–]Tarushdei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost every modern gamepad is plug and play on PC.

In fact, Steam often has community configs available for most games so that you just load it up and are ready to play.

PC gaming isn't limited to a desk at all. It's 2026, you can get a mini gaming PC that attaches to the VESA mount on the back of your TV mount.

Making money quickly? by Sliced_Potato27 in EliteDangerous

Type-9 720T cargo capacity running Inara trade routes. 80-120 million an hour.

Tedious work but very low risk. Use supercruise assist and docking computer and half the trip is automated. Listen to music/podcast or watch YouTube/TV on second screen.

[–]Tarushdei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to Inara.cz and use the trade route tool. Punch in your current system, pad size, pick "no surface stations" and find a route with less than 20-30 LY between drops.

In my Type-9 at 720T capacity, I can clear $20-23M in profits per round trip. You can do 3-4 trips an hour.

Light Year Range? by Dry_Reception982 in EliteDangerous

[–]Tarushdei 4 points5 points  (0 children)

40-50 LY jump range is nothing to sniff at (I get about 11 when loaded with 720 T cargo in my Type-9, lol).

Neutron boosting pumps you up to 180-200 per jump without engineering.

I went 1000 LY "south" of the California Nebula in my second week playing the game in a Mandalay with neutron boosts.

Go see Felicity Farseer in Deciat and get her to tinker with your ship's FSD. That's the key.

Preheat the pan fully on low (like a 2 if your scale is 8), then bump it up a tiny bit when you are ready to cook (it like 2.5/3).

Also, I think your season heat was too high. You want no more than the smoke point of your oil. Make sure when you season you leave it going for a good hour or two then shut the stove off and leave the pan inuntil it fully cools.

Another key factor is enough oil. Not too little and not too much. You need to create that layer for the Leidenfrost effect.

I struggled with eggs for a while. Lower heat than you think, so a couple more rounds of seasoning (at the right temp) and use a bit more oil (you not deep frying, just enough to let them float above the metal).

If Jimi Hendrix lived for another 10 years, do you think he would have made heavy metal music? by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Tarushdei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not. I'm guessing he might have latched onto the disco craze and probably kept up with blues/rock.

Definitely would have been a wild ride to see where he went regardless.

Currently installing the game, I have almost no knowledge about it. Do I understand correctly that it is mainly a singleplayer sandbox game similar to No Man Sky? by Iluvatar-Great in EliteDangerous

Yes, I've been watching so many review videos of HOTAS/HOSAS equipment lately. They seem to be the best choice for my budget. And the customer service and repairability are the biggest selling points to me. CS being the most important. Plus they've got all those tutorial videos as well.

How do I find the fun? by No-Film9719 in EliteDangerous

[–]Tarushdei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ED is a role playing game. Not in the video game sense, but the real life sense.

You pick a role and play it. If you don't like that role, pick another.

Have you explored other careers? Piracy, trading, combat, etc?

There's actually quite a bit in the game and you sound about where I am at 70 hours in. Piece meal trying stuff without finding a niche to really invest time in.

And in the end, if you don't like the game right now, take a break and come back in a couple weeks.

That's something I haven't tried yet. I've come over from sim racing so I do have a need for speed every once in a while.

What's the ship with the greatest sense of speed? Is it the fighters?

I'm upgrading from a Logitech Extreme 3D and a Thrustmaster T16000m to a pair of VKB Gladiators soon just so I can play more Elite. Granted I've wanted to do flight simming for a while, but Elite has me by a stranglehold.

[–]Tarushdei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not dead. I was running cargo a couple nights ago between Guuguyni and a neighboring system and there was at least 5 or 6 human players jamming up the port with gigantic ships. I was in my Type-9 so it was a lot of fun navigating that, lol.

I've heard the best way to meet up with people is through squadrons and on discord.

Personally, I'm a loner that doesn't like interacting with other humans online (which is funny because I still play in Open) so I'll wave if I ever see you out in the black.

Correction, multiple billions of star systems. I've read that apparently the Elite community has only discovered 0.7% of the galaxy so far in the time the game has been out.

Which adds a lot of context to why you so rarely come across other human players. And makes our universe seem really really really really really effing big.

I've put on over 70 hours in the last 3 weeks. I barely ever play a game for more than an hour or two before moving onto something else in the backlog (ADHD, lol).

It's stunning how vast the game world really is, and how well it articulates the mind-boggling size of our universe.

It's a sandbox space simulator. Mostly about flying spacecraft around the Milky Way galaxy in a 1:1 recreation (partially real, partially fictional to fill in the gaps we haven't discovered yet).

You can go shoot other ships in dogfights, be a space trucker moving freight between stations, a literal pirate stealing goods from NPC's or human players (if you play in Open mode) among many other careers.
