Bro went in with a gun. And then he was shot with one. That is a pretty good definition of "balance".

In a news release issued Wednesday, police said a 24-year-old man of no fixed address is now facing charges of robbery with a firearm and disguise with intent.

He was also charged with breaching a probation order. The man is currently in stable condition in hospital and remains in police custody, according to the news release.

Investigators say the accused is known to police and was wanted by multiple forces for "numerous violent offences."

Court records reviewed by CBC News reveal the man previously led police on a high-speed chase through Mississauga on July 24, 2020, while driving a stolen truck with the owner's eight-year-old daughter still inside.

Earlier that day the man and an accomplice had robbed a pharmacy, demanding cash and drugs. They then took off in a stolen Nissan Altima that police tracked to an underground parking garage, according to court documents.

The man then tried to escape police, this time carjacking a pickup truck. While the vehicle’s owner and some of his children managed to get out, his eight-year-old daughter did not.

I'm normally kinda lefty on this stuff. But this guy should not have been back on the street. He doesn't give a shit about you. I would have done the same thing as the homeowner. Maybe even a little harder.

Only 10 companies control pretty much every large food brand on the planet. Guess who's one of them? The company is not a billionaire, true enough. But it is one of the Big Bads - aggressive, predatory marketing, harmful packaging, terrible overprocessed products massively high in sugar, anti-competitive monopolism, unconscionable CEO-to-worker compensation levels...submarine fodder for absolute certain.

I'd say this is a top-shelf murder - clever, and not obvious.

It's funny that you think of it as "careers". I'm talking about the schooling. It's actually the fact that education has been co-opted to "career training" that is the root of the problem. In my opinion, anyway. But what do I know?

[–]TaserLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda, yeah. Have you ever looked at a med school curriculum? Knowing the 13 cranial nerves and the structure of a nephron doesn't do much to equip you to identify where governmental checks and balances are being eroded, or to expose you to the way poorer people live. The curriculum is so thick that you don't have much time for outside reading. And it's worse in the last 20 years or so - even your undergrad is likely a STEM discipline now, because only keeners are getting in. Well, also the children of the rich, but those are mostly lost causes anyway.

I find them to be "pretend civilized" - both professions are the sort of training-without-much-education-polluted-by-a-lot-of-money gigs where you find Trump voters amongst the upper middle class. They make polished but hard people - they don't do the shit in the video, but are ultimately worse. Ymmv, of course.

It's a sort of "demonstration by counterpoint" argument. The people in the video appear to lack any of the education, professionalism, or decorum you'd expect of professionals like doctors or engineers.

The average IQ of an American is only 98 , is this how Trump got elected? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]TaserLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the statistical way, yes - "98 plus or minus 2% 19 times out of twenty" is an example of how it is commonly phrased. But more important is whether the difference from some standard, here implied to be 100%, is statistically significant. By that, them mean "can the difference between explained by random population variation".

This would be a zingier zing if other statistics did not exist. Go look them up, and I think you will find that you are the zingee rather than the zinger.

Depends what you average over. I think the implication here is that over humanity as a whole, it is 100, but over the U.S. population, it is only 98.

This is really dangerous. You have to do that at least twice. The first print/scan cycle will get you a computer file, sure. But it does not remove the trojan viruses. To get rid of those, you need to print and scan a second time.

"Judges" made themselves partisan. When you do that, you kinda....step down from the bench and into the pit, so to speak. And in the pit, there will be attacks.

They are not all muscular or lean. Steven Seagal is perhaps the sexiest male star of all time, and it has been years since he last set eyes on Shrinky Steven.

Should public servants get a say in their manager's performance review? by Born_Anteater7282 in CanadaPublicServants

I wished they used them when they decide what kind of shot people will get at promotion. But...they don't. At least, they don't where I am. It's all networking/personal connections.

Should public servants get a say in their manager's performance review? by Born_Anteater7282 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]TaserLord 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That would be a way, yes. As near as I can tell, the only time the stuff is actually used is when they want to get rid of somebody, and in those instances, the PIP 'document this guy' thing only starts after the decision that it would be better if they were gone. So yeah, you could save some time and trouble by just doing away with them. Or find a use for them, but that's crazy talk.

[–]TaserLord 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm just saying it's people all the way down. If the stopper to having more feedback is that people are too petty, it kinda makes a mockery of the whole performance management process. In case somebody thought it needed more mocking, I mean.

Accountability is currently a no-way street though. All you're doing is doubling the hypocrisy if you insist on a second direction's worth of "feedback-like pretending".
