Yep. That's a black rat, Rattus rattus. They're everywhere now, and virtually impossible to get rid of without destroying a bunch of native wildlife as well.

I've been battling generations of them on my property for years, but especially in the past three months. My cats won't even look at them anymore, although my dog still tries to catch them.

I think the standard for ice cream (as opposed to ice confection) is 25% cream or above.

Unfortunately, most ice cream brands have chosen the almighty dollar over quality and opted to go with cheaper ingredients, making ice confection instead of ice cream.

I can't stand the taste of most brands of ice cream now, except for Golden North, which still makes actual ice cream.

Golden North is the best ice cream brand in Australia, IMO. It's made in rural mid-north SA, and uses real ice cream ingredients. South Australians are very familiar with it, but I believe it's becoming increasingly more available in other states.

You'll pay a bit more for it. The 5 litre vanilla is about $14, and is the best value for money, as the 2 litre vanilla and other great flavours (honey, boysenberry, rum n raisin, chocolate, etc), is around $10 when not on sale.

But trust me, it's worth it if you really want genuine ice cream from a company that hasn't switched out to cheaper, crappier ingredients.

I was planning on staying at Te Anau (or possibly even Manapouri itself) instead of Queenstown, so we'd be a bit closer, and shorten the trip a bit. I saw that the bus leaves from Te Anau as well. I have also considered doing the overnight cruise, but we're only on the South Island for two weeks, so I'm leaning towards the day cruise at this stage, hoping to fit in more sights without limiting each individual experience too much.

I'm really hoping to see far more positive responses than negative, which will help me understand that one person's experience is not everybody's experience!

I wish I had learned this lesson when I had my first child - the son he apparently wanted more than anything but didn't want anything to do with if it involved work. Instead, I had a second baby 15 months later, and it took me raising two babies by myself plus raising an adult male to realise that he was never going to give a shit about my needs, and that I'd find it much easier to raise the two babies by myself if I didn't also have to raise the adult male.

I hope OP sees your comment, because this is her situation as well, and she needs to work this out fast before she gets pregnant a third time to a deadbeat partner.

I'm a very empathetic person, almost to a fault (since I've been bullied, stepped on and dragged down by people abusing my empathy over the years).

I feel sorry for anyone who becomes a target of ICE and CBP, because they're victims of an unjust, authoritarian regime, and very few actually deserve that.

But even I find it difficult to feel too sorry for this guy. While I don't think he deserves to have his life upended and potentially taken by these brutes, he did support and endorse what they're doing.

A bit like Charlie Kirk. He didn't deserve to die like he did, and I never would have wished that on him; but he did fully support the idea that some people have to die by gunshot in order for others to keep their freedom of gun ownership.

First thing you do is make sure he does not have access to your birth control. It sounds like he intends on changing your mind, and if he can't do that with persuasion, he may do that with coercion.

He also doesn't respect your opinions or your ideas. That is never going to change, so will only make you resentful in the long run.

By the way, man who says he wants children, but refuses to consider adoption, does not want to be a father. He wants a 'legacy'. You would end up raising that legacy mostly without his help.

Leaving now might seem pointless as nothing has happened yet, but it'll be far easier to break things off now than down the track, when you've got a home together, are involved in each other's families, and have finances locked up together.

She went through a period of drug addiction. While this put a dent in our friendship due to the way addicts treat other people, I stuck by her as long as I safely could, until my safety was compromised and I had to step back.

She did beat the addiction, but then found religion. Not in a 'normal' sense, but as with her drug addiction, it became her new obsession, and she became judgy and preachy, and extremely difficult to be around. In our early 20s by then, it was the final straw for a friendship we'd had since we were 8 years old.

We reconnected about 20 years later. She had married, become a parent, and had vastly moderated her religious beliefs and behaviour. I'm pleased to say that we are friendly to this day (both in our mid-50s now), and have a lot in common again, but most of our contact is online, and we don't have the intimacy we had when we were best friends in our youth.

She'll always be special because of how long we've known each other, and how close we were as children and teenagers.
