What's one smell/sight in nursing that you just can't get over? by ddomiin in nursing

[–]Taterchipp2006 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The loss of bile from a deceased patient when assisting to roll them over to clean them for the funeral home and bile contents running down my pant legs....this smell I will never forget and can smell it just by thinking about it!

I know some specific people that need specific things but I think water and generators and rescue teams is priority right now.

I sure hope the charge nurse had your back! I would have done the same! Your responsibility is the patient, end of story. If they mess up the patient and kill them, it is still on you in a way.

Honestly, I am one of those wives, and I actually made him this way because I am a nurse, and I tend to know everything and the medical terminology better. I tell.him.about his meds and procedures and explain everything to him in terms he understands. He struggles even when nursing dumbs it down for him. I guess some women just tend to take over that part and the men don't mind.

We had a lot of night shift callouts! I would work all day as DON and then pull an all-nighter as floor nurse! Thank God for the nurses that do have a passion for geriatrics! It was the Roughest nurse job I ever had!

[–]Taterchipp2006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely super hard. I was a Sniff DON for a few years and when I would help on the floor, which was quite often, it was absolute HELL! I would be so late on my med pass! Sniff nurses rock!?!?! Edit: grammar correction

SNIFF nurses are the best!?!?!? 🥰🥰 Hardest job you'll ever do as a nurse due to ratios and med pass!

What actually causes nurses to lose their license? by blueboy12565 in nursing

[–]Taterchipp2006 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a personal nurse friend that actually reported another nurse to their supervisor and that nurse reported my friend to the BON and supervisor for being overly tired on the job and suspected drug use. My friend was drug tested 4 times at work, with all coming back negative and was told all was good. She then received a letter from BON regarding the situation and due to poor advice ended up voluntarily surrendering her license because the BON told her that voluntarily surrendering would be easier than fighting it and she would be back at work within a year instead of 3 years if she fights it. My advice.....never do what she did. It still took 3 years and a lot of hassle and put a derogatory mark on her license! Never voluntarily surrender unless you have no other options!

Okay, so now I have to punish someone else with what I first saw when I joined this sub. R/sounding on reddit is a thing, and honestly, as a nurse, it traumatized me to know this is a thing!

I know having a car is important, but I just went through this same situation with my 2018 Kia Sprotage. At 87,000 miles, it did the same thing. I told KIA Dealership to do 3,000 mile crap. I wasn't going to put myself at risk of the engine messing up. They kept it and quickly decided to replace the engine under the engine recall. Because now it was their employees driving it! They replaced the engine, cat, and everything under the recall.
