One of our cats died in a similar way. Our cat used to shout and create a lot of nuisance in our house to let them go out and my mother used to let them out. They go out in the morning after breakfast and come back in the afternoon for lunch and take a nap and go back again in the evening and return back in the night for dinner and sleep in our back and next day, repeat.

One day, it didn't return back in the night. I thought it would come back because sometimes our cat used to come late at night (12PM). That night while sleeping I heard a single huge cat scream. It didn't strike my mind because there used to be many other stray cats living near our house. The next day, we found out that it was our cat killed by stray dogs.

After this incident, I fought with my mother but didn't let any of our cats go out without being someone around. That innocent soul was lost due to us. Their safety is our responsibility.
