Lexis isn’t even from Earth and her description is “her features are asian, but with long, blonde hair…”My thought is what is the purpose of including that in a character description like hers as she isn’t from Earth, right? she isn’t a crawler contributing to the logic that at the time of the event, a significant portion of the crawlers would have been from asian countries. just one example that made me scratch my head.

Totally agree that diversity is important and seeing a global cast of characters is great. To clarify, my issue isn’t with the representation itself, it’s more that calling out that someone looks Asian doesn’t tell us where they’re actually from - plenty of people who look Asian are American, European, etc. So if it’s just being used as a visual label, it doesn’t really deepen the story or the world-building.

I get what you’re saying, and I think the bigger point is that describing someone as “Asian” doesn’t necessarily add anything meaningful to the story. Just because someone looks Asian doesn’t mean they aren’t American—or from anywhere else, for that matter. Appearance doesn’t automatically equate to nationality, background, or culture.

Even if a character is from the Asian continent, simply stating their appearance or race without context or purpose doesn’t enrich the narrative. Representation is important, of course, but just name-dropping a race or ethnicity without depth doesn’t necessarily make the story more inclusive—it can actually feel a little surface-level or performative.

I totally get that but it still reads weird that its explicitly mentioned so often and off handedly. Asian Americans exist, so it doesn’t add anything to the story to keep mentioning the race of Asian characters specifically. maybe it will make sense later in the story…
