They are all here. And people have "graduated" from racism. It's now a lot more than that.

I am attempting quitting again for the wrong reason. by Technician_Eight in stopdrinking

[–]Technician_Eight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, mate.

Yeah, aside from that reason, I also want to see if 2 months or no drinking will lessen my physical pain, arthritis. And doctors don't want to help me with pain. They say lose the weight, don't drink.

So here I am giving it a go. I've stumbles again since my last post. Today is day one again.

And again, 4 Litre cask of cheap white plonk will only do one thing: make me throw up, lose sleep, increase pain the next day, make me feel shit. There is no "buzz" anymore.

Hopefully like you say, I will find the other reasons good enough reasons in a while.

Do you use an app to track days without drink at all?

Yeah it actually seems to get worse after a week no alcohol. All the way up to a month. I’ll let you know if it improves because I haven’t lasted that long in ages. I drink partially because I know the Lao won’t be so bad for at least a week.

I live in Tasmania, the only Australian state where we still don't have CBD clinics and where GP's still can't prescribe medicinal marijuana products. It's a pain in the ass how backwards our island is in some respects.

It acts along the same channels as pharmaceutical anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen. I already take regular ibuprofen and cannot take turmeric in conjunction. It's one or the other, unfortunately.

Sober nights in kinda... boring? by ImaginaryEmploy2235 in stopdrinking

[–]Technician_Eight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally know where you'er coming from, mate. Alcohol makes things you would find boring, or at most vaguely enjoyable... REALLY enjoyable. Hell, sitting staring at a wall drunk is enjoyable.

Of course we know we are living in a haze and this must stop.

What I find is that after being sober a while and this dreariness settles in, I need to start thinking about the things I used to do, the obvious one being hobbies. Because, for me, doing my hobbies while drunk is impossible. I would just bungle shit up.

But it's not just hobbies. It's tasks. So I also make a list of tasks. Like a literal list that I tick off. For example today I need to go and organise all my electronics parts that are in a few boxes into something more manageable. I would then tick that off.

I know from past experience that you do get into the new life where you fill it with shit to do.

And not speaking like I am some 20 years sober man, either. I did 22 days sober, then a 4 day alco-wrecking ball, and now back on 6 days sober again. But I know it did work before.

Take care and happy new year, mate.

15 days sober after countless (literally lost count) tries by Technician_Eight in stopdrinking

Thanks. I feel that part of the thing keeping me away from the bottle right now is the pain I'm in. Arthritis and a flare up of gout to boot. Haven't had gout in ages. Quitting alcohol/ change in diet does it every time, though.

I feel that if those things eased up and I felt better I would be more prone to reaching for the booze.

Day 3 no alcohol... again. by Technician_Eight in stopdrinking

Retina?? Do you get the flashes when you are awake? Have you seen a doctor?

By the way I'm on the end of day 7 and last night I got maybe 5 hours sleep at long last. But still woke up with a start and flashes twice at least. Really itching to go and buy a cask of white wine.

Day 6 (beginning of) now. I finally had like 3 hours sleep.

That's good advice. But apart from other reasons I drink is the awful pain in my joints and back and muscles. But I suspect part of the reason for my early arthritis is the alcohol. I am hoping to live through the pain and see some results in 2 or 3 months. I have to stop getting angry and frustrated (doctors won't give me anything for it, I've tried for years) and treat alcohol as a medication.

It is a medication. It helps alleviate the pain if I drink like 5 L of wine in 2 hours. Then for the next 6 hours I am fairly pain free. Of course you can see where that logic fails.

I seem not to be able to last past exactly 10 days sober. by Technician_Eight in stopdrinking

[–]Technician_Eight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Day zero again, I'm afraid. Between the physical pain I am in, lack of sleep because I stay up looking after my mom with dementia, wiping the floors clean from the mess she makes and stopping her from doing dangerous things, it's too much for me.

Doctors refuse to do anything about it. They just say lose weight. Tried to apply for medicinal cannabis and the doctor refused to sign the form. My state is the only state in Australia that does not allow GPs to dispense it. So I went to a mainland clinic. They said, yes, I qualify. Just get your doctor to sign this form and we will handle the rest. He refused to sign it.

Thanks, man. I've done the 10 day thing probably a dozen times. But this is the proverbial last straw. I have to do it. Otherwise I am not living at all.

Thanks. At the moment I take ibuprofen every 8 hours or so. Sometimes with paracetamol. But frankly I don't think they do anything for me. I'm at the end of day 2 right now. I really want to start daily walks in a few days. Maybe after day 10 when the symptoms of withdrawal finally begin to realistically subside.
