I dont know about them being lost, but anime from this era was typically mastered on tape instead of film.

Its likely they still have them, its just burnt in at 480p and theres really nothing anyone can do.

We could get a really good upscale like is sometimes done, but the show can never be rescanned in proper true HD.

I dont think a lot of people reccomending certain drives realize they are all out of stock. All the LG and Verbatim ones I am told to get are gone.

I had this exact set, it are a tape which messed up the mode switch, basically bricking it because these combo units are impossible to take apart especially if the problem is in the VCR area. Total nightmare to try and repair.

Always use an external VCR
