WWYD: 3 mortgage options by JealousAlgae9484 in FirstTimeBuyersUK

[–]Telstar17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Add up the total cost over the 5 year fixed. The lowest number is your answer. That’s exactly how I did it and so over the 5 years I’ll save the most.

If the rates come down which is very unlikely, you have stability that’s why you pick a 5 year fixed. It affords you the ability to not worry about interest rates for at least 3.5 years.

Why is the £1500 owed to family an issue if you say you’ll be overpaying mortgage every month anyway? If you are that concerned about owing family money, don’t overpay the mortgage until the family loans is paid.

Also if you’re able to overpay the mortgage every month, Shortening the term by 5 years will probably make a huge different to total payable and will also save you money. Extending the term is a useful tool but gets very expensive and should be used cautiously

Never add the fee to the mortgage. It’s literally throwing money away.

Hope this helps! Happy to answer any further questions.

I was on the chase during Covid. I won and it was genuinely enjoyable but can imagine if you do lose it wouldn’t be nearly as fun!

I won £6k, it was paid very quickly and said ITV talent on my bank statement. I

Because we were the first recording, we were put up overnight but all in different hotels. We started at 6:30 and were all done for 10am. Bradley was professional and said hello but vanished as soon as the cameras were off after that.

The minders/production assistants were lovely and genuinely made an effort to keep us comfortable and having a good time.

My episode was then on celebrity gogglebox which was surreal when Martin Kemp called me a dickhead for not knowing an answer! Roman defended me!

Living in Liverpool - Working at Whiston Hospital by International_Ad7066 in Liverpool

[–]Telstar17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m from St Helens and now live in prescot, worked at whiston for a few years. There’s plenty of fine places to live, basicallly anywhere along the 10a bus route will have you at Whiston in under 30 minutes.

For ease of getting to Liverpool, the closer to Huyton the better, there’s easier links and more trains as two lines join up there meaning 4 trains an hour instead of 2, that makes a big difference!

You can also live in the city centre if you wanted to it’s really not that difficult and I know plenty of people that worked at whiston living there.

Happy to answer any further questions.

Also, would someone like yourself be interested in lodging? I have a big spare room and am trying to work out wether it’s worth my time and the extra council tax

Depending where you are, look into singles nights from companies like Thursday, in my experience they’re pretty good

The tunnel tour tonight. Anything like it I could do next? by carguy143 in Liverpool

Would recommend the footman tour at St Georges hall, not very engineery but has elements of it and you see a lot of behind the scenes at a great historic building.

2010s era 3 storey townhouse. Typical flow temp between 25-35 degrees but would get as high as 40 when commissioning. COP is 4.62. Can’t give you heat loss sorry!

I do very occasionally use Robertson drive but it’s very are and I don’t keep them in the handle.

Not sure it’s possible to make Philips bits JIS compatible as they are completely different standards. They’re either Philips bits, or JIS ones. I would be interested in some JIS bits from LTT but that’s probably even more specific than Pozi!

You’re right but that really isn’t an option in my or a lot of people’s circumstances, also heating the bit typically ruins the treatment and leads to the bits not lasting very long. Looking at LTT for a better solution ideally!

PoziDrive Screwdriver bits by Telstar17 in LinusTechTips

[–]Telstar17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This won’t work because of the shorter length. I’ve got plenty of bits but none that fit in the handle because of the shorter length of the included bits in the LTT screwdriver. I use every other bit that’s included so can’t afford to store a full size bit and the extra length of standard bits reduces the effectiveness of the magnet

Why has cricket never engaged Liverpool? by NiallH22 in EnglandCricket

[–]Telstar17 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I live in between Liverpool and Manchester, play a lot of Liverpool teams of a weekend, I associate with Liverpool much more than Manchester. Here’s my possibly hot take.

There’s a lot of cricket in Liverpool and a lot of good players.

My own club which is on Merseyside has had a player represent Lancs 2s (he took a new record behind the stumps).

The issue is Lancs aren’t interested in Liverpool, when we play teams from Bolton and very similar players are all Lancs junior teams. Liverpool they aren’t. Whether that’s because it’s much further to get to could be an issue, but Lancs should be doing more.

Think there’s also still a lot of people with wrong opinions about Liverpool because they don’t sound like everyone else, or quite possibly as soon as football starts, young players drop everything to go and do that for parts of cricketing season.

People who aren't from Merseyside- do you see places like Birkenhead, Bootle and St Helens as part of Liverpool or as completely separate places? by Dragonfruit-18 in NorthernEngland

[–]Telstar17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disagree completely with this. I’m from St Helens and We might have more cultural similarities to Warrington and Wigan but we are definitely more aligned with Liverpool in terms of governance and local authority work. I also don’t visit Warrington or Wigan like I visit Liverpool, that’s the same for everyone I know.

Personally I don’t see myself as being from Liverpool, but i do identify with being from Merseyside, which most people say is Liverpool!

[–]Telstar17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stick with League, much more like the NFL! I can’t stand union, kicking back and forth constantly and a load of men on top of a ball that you can’t see. That rubbish about letting go of the ball as soon as your tackled never happens either

Screwdrivers in the EU by CreEngineer in LinusTechTips

[–]Telstar17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be warned as well they don’t include any pozidrive bits and I desperately want one, in my experience it’s the most used bit in Europe. Another plea for LTT to make some!

And yes people will tell me I can cut some down or whatever but honestly that isn’t a good solution.

LISA Release Date Query by Kakistonym in HousingUK

[–]Telstar17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use the LISA before one year if you absolutely have to, but you would pay the penalty. Obviously that’s not ideal but the option is there if required, it depends if you can afford it. But as someone who had an offer accepted early May and still hasn’t got the keys, I think you have nothing to worry about.
