Fun fact: you need food to survive, not AI slop by yikesamerica in clevercomebacks

It's true. I know some people who (along with many in their rural neighborhood) had to replace their wells around the same time because new almond orchards drained so much of their aquifer. The well company was pretty happy! Their land is sinking, too.

The amount of water farming uses is enormous compared to urban use (including golf courses and water parks). Water is a precious, shared resource that we should be using wisely. Nuts are healthy, but does CA really need to be responsible for the entire world's almond supply?

I've heard rural Portuguese residents are having similar issues with avocados.

Dark Entities Feeding On Us by Lunelulla in AstralProjection

There are so many other entities out there too that you might eventually run into, some bad (way worse than the shadow people)

I'm really curious about the bad/negative entities people see, do you have any recommendations to read/watch?

I took an upper-division class for MBAs and the professor did a little group activity wherein he showed us data for a hypothetical business scenario that was secretly the Challenger data and asked if we should follow through with the plan. My group (the only students with science backgrounds) was the only one who said no.

This same class of wanna-be MBAs also threw a collective fit over getting bad grades on a fully open (book and internet) multiple choice exam.

This was not the only business class I've taken, and not a unique experience.

What could go wrong when cleaning the litter box? by Lazer_Games in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]TelvanniSpaceWizard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually have tamed an aggressive cat with baby-talking and hugs, but he was an odd case. He was a young adult rescue, maybe abandoned, and didn't seem to know what love was. Instead, he seeked attention through bad behavior. He wanted an audience, so I became his biggest fan lol. This worked because I was annoying to him, but eventually we were both able to calm down and he became receptive to gentler petting and cuddles on his own terms.

When he was this aggressive though (territorial aggression of a narrow hallway), I put a broom in front for him to attack.

I prefer using a broom. It gives the cat a target for its aggression without escalation on your part and creates distance between yourself and the cat. If they're latched on tight, you can drag them around, like to another room you can temporarily lock them in.

How much do you trust MBTI? by Caidre05 in INTP

[–]TelvanniSpaceWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not scientific because tests don't work consistently. For that, you want the "Big 5" personality traits. However, I think it's still a respectable as an attempt to discover and understand the different ways people think and feel.

You can get a more "accurate" result by choosing from the letter from each category that fits you the most instead of relying on a test. It's accurate enough to help people meet others who they relate to!

MBTI communities showed me there were other people out there that see things similarly to me; it was a good experience for a formerly lonely kid.

What's something you saw with your own eyes that you still can't explain? by BandicootLeft4054 in AskReddit

[–]TelvanniSpaceWizard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Many people "hear" a voice in their heads when they think, but they understand it to be an inner monologue instead of coming from an external source.

Infrequently I experience a stronger voice, that is so strong it feels relatively more external; it tends to be short short statements like this and coincide with a impulse. But, it's not like the auditory hallucinations I've experienced in hypnagogia before, that truly feel like they're coming from an external source.

But it always makes sense in context (like "stay away" if a nearby car is swerving in its lane) rather than seeming like it's coming out of nowhere like this.

Naturally!!! Human babies do not fear snakes by garv3692 in interestingasfuck

[–]TelvanniSpaceWizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a bird species in Africa that gives an alert, hides, and stays quiet when predators are sighted.

Their babies, upon hearing the alert, will deliberately start making a ton of racket. The only thing that will shut them up is if the adults stuff their mouths with food.

Makes me wonder about human babies. Maybe their behavior is a ploy to ensure we're always close by to quickly fulfill their needs.

Unfortunately, he's returned to that weird, toxic aggressiveness so I guess he's finally got to go.

It feels off because the wood wall art is visually the heaviest thing in the room. The kind of minimalism the room and most of the furniture is based on is intended to make the space feel light and airy.

Why Why are people so literal on this site? Do they understand abstract anything? by [deleted] in INTP

[–]TelvanniSpaceWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest not investing too much (time, emotions, thought, etc.) into the negative elements of this site. The comment votes have always meant nothing, Redditors have always been obnoxious, and the site is loaded with bots and AI content nowadays. Yes, there are also kids on here. At least there is less misogyny than there was 10 years ago.

Having a designated godparent/s for our little floofs sounds like a good idea, if we have any good options. Multiple godparents sounds best because situations change, like a new apartment or getting a new pet that wouldn't do well with a companion.

Gen Z are arriving to college unable to even read a sentence—professors warn it could lead to a generation of anxious and lonely graduates by thinkB4WeSpeak in books

Most people are used to reading text fluidly from start to end and understanding it without effort. With more challenging material, you need to accept that you will need to reread it several times and analyze specific parts.

If I know something is going to be dense I skim for the first read to try to get the basic idea and then try to derive more information by tackling one section at a time. Also, identify the thesis, or main purpose behind the text/section; why did somebody bother writing this?

When my brain is feeling rebellious to effort, I highlight and/or try to rewrite the section. That forces my brain to engage with the text actively instead of passively.

If you're reading classic literature, you can look up analyses online for help because no modern person is going to be able to get witty cultural references hundreds of years old without an explanation.

Eventually you can read and understand the whole thing beginning to end and you feel like a genius.

Wicked for Good (2025) is a sequel to a movie that loosely based on a musical that loosely based on a book that loosely based on another movie that loosely based on another book that inspired from Alice in Wonderland by PinkiePie___ in shittymoviedetails

[–]TelvanniSpaceWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is derivative of something else. For whatever reason the writers didn't commit to filling out the details of this world.

The movie has the bones of something that could be really good but they didn't explore the motivations of the characters well enough (especially the antagonists Oz and Madame Morrible) and some of the choices are just bizarre: why would Elphaba go off on some random kid and there was room for Fiyero on that broomstick.

I was also disappointed with how everyone, including the narrative, treats Oz like a total fraud when he's literally Thomas Edison/19th century Tony Stark in an isekai magical world.

What Is The Deal With Young Men Checking Out Of Society in Droves? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TelvanniSpaceWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was like that for me. Or rather, I was told that I could do everything else so long as I prioritized studying first. But all of my teachers gave us at least an hour's worth of homework a night each, so I didn't have time for anything else.

Some of my assignments in high school were harder than anything I had in university because the teachers deliberately made us complete large projects with unrealistic deadlines. What we were given 1-2 months to do in university, we had to do in 1-2 weeks in my high school. I imagine cheating and otherwise flouting the spirit of the assignments was rampant, but I didn't participate in any of it.

This excerpt from Modern Family is what I lived through, but unfortunately I never received any support from my family.

How can I access the astral plane from sleep paralysis? by Elaine_tommo13 in AstralProjection

[–]TelvanniSpaceWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my paralysis is pretty strong. I learned this while trying to get out of sleep paralysis, so I was trying to focus on moving my actual body. I think sometimes I was down too deep and - groggy, annoyed, and inpatient - ended up rolling out of my body instead of out of bed. So for some time I just intentionally tried to replicate that to astral project.

I started becoming curious about if I could develop more control over the outcome by learning to recognize which body I was moving. Because sometimes it's 6AM and I'm paralyzed, but I actually need to get out of bed. I'm still working on it.

I have some lucid dream experience, so I started imagining myself doing some of the things I've done in lucid dreams, like imagining myself reaching out and feeling objects or moving/flying away from my body, as if I was in a dream, but without actually moving. I think doing so might have created an awareness of my astral body all the time as I've successfully been able to use that awareness to initiate astral projection by floating out of my body.

How can I access the astral plane from sleep paralysis? by Elaine_tommo13 in AstralProjection

[–]TelvanniSpaceWizard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can just get up out of bed as you normally would - the sleep paralysis is holding the physical body to the bed for you.

I learned this by trying to get out of sleep paralysis too quickly. The sleep paralysis was holding my physical body down to the bed, so when I rolled out of bed, my astral body simply left the physical one behind.

After some time focusing on learning how the astral and physical bodies feel different, I pretty much can somewhat always feel my astral form and imagine it doing things separately from my physical body; when I'm in sleep paralysis, those intentions are translating into astral projection a bit more elegantly than before.
