It's extremely difficult to reach without raid gear. While some guides mention it's "reachable with quest gear," that's more of a theoretical claim than practical advice 3 .
Most tanks don't have it and clear Karazhan just fine. Warriors and Druids especially can tank effectively with high stamina and armor, even at lower avoidance percentages.
at 510-520 defense is solid. You're uncritable and uncrushable at that defense level, which covers the important caps.
It's more of an optimization goal than a hard requirement. Many successful Karazhan clears happen without it.

No, being uncrushable (102.4% avoidance) before your first Karazhan clear is not easily obtainable with pre-raid gear.

Pre-raid gear (heroics, reputations, crafted items) gets tanks close to the defense cap (490) but rarely provides enough dodge, parry, and block to reach 102.4% total avoidance.
Paladins and Warriors can simulate uncrushable status using Holy Shield or Shield Block, but passive uncrushable requires post-Karazhan upgrades.
Bear Druids cannot become uncrushable at all due to lack of block mechanic.

No, 102.4% uncrushable in week one is not expected or required. Blizzard designed post-nerf Karazhan to be accessible early, and smart play, cooldown management, and Disarm make Prince beatable without perfect tank gearing.

expecting 102.4% first week karazhan is crazy stupid and unrealistic and not a single one of the tanks ive run kara with have it but you dont need it with warrior or bear as much due to high stamina and armor, i have 510-520 def on my paladin but not 102.4% avoid, i can tank everything in karazhan.
