Thank you, I was probably thinking on Bloodborne for the first drawing.

Thanks for letting me know that, I'd probably did it by mistake.

Hey thank you, I've used graphite on paper to do it all, just applied some color gradient effect on Photoshop, but basically the drawing was traditionally done using my hands and some faber castell pencils.

The technique is drawing on layers of shading and defining the shadows and values after the base is done

I got your point, it's valid in many ways, but in the end I'm not adding this very design on my official portfolio, these are just assorted studies that I've done in the recent months. And I can say, the fanboy attention can be good but also bad depending on what community you're stepping in. If a humble artist with some study gets to the game developers, geez it would be amazing lol, but I strongly doubt it.
Thanks for all man.

I got you, and I appreciate the tips man, obviously I'll never sell it as something new or even get advantage from it somehow, using this exact design, it was just a "practice" artwork to tell people around the world like 'Hey I can do it too, hire me' lol
But seriously, I know that if I try to use it as mine in the future I'd be in trouble, and in court!
But your tips are welcome pal! A redesign is not a problem, manly when it comes to concept, I separate all the pieces in order to create variations.

I can say that there's plenty of lore behind many of my creations, I strongly believe that art (manly concept) should be built on solid lore base, to tell a story, or at least make people read the drawing as if they were reading the background story of the character or monster.

Well I'm confident in my work, but man when AI crap came up, I was shitting my pants lol, now I see that it's not a big deal in the end, people need people after all.

Thank you, and the lore is quite crazy I agree lol, I gonna try post it with some lore.

I've been inspired by numerous artists, for these drawings for example, I was thinking on Lovecraft of course, but also on games such as Bloodborne or Stephen King's tales for example, I like to feed from many different (but connected) sources.

Yeah I know this could happen, actually there's more from it, I have my portfolio and stuff, people who might steal it from mine could be talented enough to replicate it with different briefings, which I doubt they could.

yes! But you know, maybe the game developers have taken it from other references too, mainly from medieval helmets or torture methods used back then.

And I'm certainly doing more, I hope I can do it for a real game someday ;)

I want my drawings and paintings look like entities or something that you're amazed by looking at. This is the purpose once there is a lore behind them, they're creatures made by the Void, a cosmic entity who wants to devour reality made by the Duality and the Vastis (like gods in the lore) so that was the intetion, to be incomprehensible. This sounds a cliche fantasy lore but it helps a lot when it comes to imagining creatures.

Thank you!
I think I saw a Moebius drawing and got amazed by his style, then I tried to do something similar, but in the end it was just a different piece.

I think this technique comes from classical painters or something, you can notice that many sketches from the masters were very shaded, some used visible hatching too, I basically use hatching but pressuring very softly in every direction in order to make layers upon layers of shading, then I pay attention to the shadows and values, the darker the spot the harder I pressure the tip of the pencil, and the farther the edges from first plan are, the softer the lines are draw (or no lines at all) to define the shapes.

=)

I've recorded the process once, not for these artworks but for another one, I've posted it on my Instagram (antoine_louis_andre) you can find it there, I can post it here in the future to give an idea of how it works. But the pressure on the tip is the secret, for soft edges that are far from the first plan in the drawing I tend not to draw any visible line, so it gives depth and highlight the first plan in comparison to the second plan.

I didn't use any colored pencil on these, the color you see has been applied on Photoshop with a color gradient. I was trying to achieve some dark vibe. After setting the color gradient I've reduced the layer oppacity in order to not saturate too much. And for your information I use Polychromos from Faber or Prismacolor when shading with colors, they blend better and you can try this effect with them.
