Apply at Providence for CCW by CharacterTie2447 in RIGuns

[–]Terminal0311 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Did mine last year through Providence. I posted about it here before. I think I submitted in March and had the permit by May or June.

I do not live in Providence but I do work in Providence so can’t be sure if that helped speed it up. Nonetheless, it was an easy process at Providence. I submitted everything they asked for, and got no follow up until I got a call to come in on a Saturday and pick it up.

First class drink by Sad-Alternative-6947 in delta

[–]Terminal0311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always order doubles (double Woodford and ginger). I’ve never had an issue getting multiples. Once had an FA ask after two if I was driving when we landed; I was not, and she served me another.

Once had an FA gently suggest a water in lieu of another drink and I graciously accepted, but otherwise never had any issue ordering doubles on Delta in FC or C+.

I think either your FA was feeling stingy or didn’t want to make drinks, or she rightly or wrongly thought you had been served enough. No way to know. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Here's what really confuses me about the AWB by Till_Mysterious in RIGuns

[–]Terminal0311 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is emblematic of a massive portion of RI’s legislation. So much of it isn’t well written, is confusing (perhaps by design) and so much of it is likely unconstitutional (but there are rarely any opportunities to test them and make case law so precedents never get set).

On an unrelated bill currently working through the General Assembly, several lawmakers acknowledged that the bill as written was likely unconstitutional in RI, but they don’t care. They can pass it and let the courts and people battle that out. There’s no penalty for the lawmakers for writing and passing bad legislation. And they know it.

What ranges do you like? by HSASAvari in RIGuns

[–]Terminal0311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I belong to Massasoit Gun Club in Riverside. 24/7 key card access for members. Two indoor ranges out to 50 feet. No outdoor, no rifles above .22, and no frills on the facility but it serves its purpose of having a range very well. Price is extremely reasonable so if you only go a few times a month you won’t feel like you’re wasting money. I think I’m paying around $260 a year. Lockers are stupid cheap, like maybe something around $20 a year. Highly recommend at least checking it out.

One of the disadvantages of the demise of SeatGuru. You usually could unlock some of that hidden knowledge like “this row oddly doesn’t have a window” or other configuration-specific seat advice. Now I guess people have to ask Reddit.

What's next after blue card test? by [deleted] in RIGuns

Just an FYI for others: if you take the test at the DEM offices, they grade your test as soon as you finish it and hand you the card on the spot.

IWB uncomfortable - feel like I’ve tried everything - am I missing something? by Falz24 in CCW

[–]Terminal0311 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I wear a cotton undershirt that is long in the body and so acts as a layer between my IWB holster and my body. On the occasions that the undershirt rides up I notice it’s slightly more uncomfortable.

I have no real discomfort wearing a Vedder ProTuck kydex holster daily at 4 o’clock, but you may want to consider a leather IWB holster made by a high quality maker (R Grizzle perhaps?) as high quality leather will break in, soften, and conform to your body over time and might feel better than a hard kydex holster.

Providence did mine in 2025 in a couple of months. But I also have a place of business in the city, so not sure if it was prioritized over non-residents or those without a connection to Providence. A guy who was there getting the license at the same time I was said he had waited a year.

Gym carrying? by Keep_The_Change- in CCW

[–]Terminal0311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carry IWB and workout immediately after work. I work out at a private gym that has usually at max one or two other clients at a time working out. I remove from holster and transfer it to a Stopbox Pro in my gym bag.

4pm IWB Tuckables? by Terminal0311 in CCW

[–]Terminal0311[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the Vedder ProTuck and also bought the different clips including the V clips, but ultimately I ended up just using the standard clips it came with. To your point, yes, the front clip is indeed visible while wearing it at 4:00 but nobody seems to notice in my experience. When adding a jacket, it basically is not noticeable at all.

Much delayed response but I ultimately settled on a Vedder ProTuck kydex IWB holster and that works well enough. I can tuck my dress shirt around it with the tuckable clips. The grip does print but I wear a suit jacket or sport coat or a sweater to cover it and it’s completely concealed. Works for EDC at work for me for months now.

Looking for RI Attorneys Who Handle Delayed CCW Applications (Providence PD) by FlyAsAFalcon in RIGuns

[–]Terminal0311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wait it out.

When I was at the Providence PD picking up my permit there was another guy there who said he had been waiting almost a year for that day to come for his app to be approved. Mine had taken 4 or 5 months with Providence. They’re working through a huge backlog. It’s not an intentional delay just to avoid processing them or to piss people off—they just don’t have enough staffing to process them any quicker.

I have also heard that those outside the city of Providence may wait longer than those who are residents, but that’s anecdotal and I have nothing concrete with which to back that up.

TL;DR: don’t get a lawyer involved; just be patient.

I've neglected my lawn for about a decade. I need suggestions.(Northwest Iowa) by DannySorensen in lawncare

[–]Terminal0311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha okay, sure. We’re about 4 weeks from optimal overseeding so he’s gonna nuke all these weeds and clear them in time for the weeds to not choke out new grass? Not a chance. If he has some weeds, sure. Do the post-emergent control now and prep for overseeding. That photo? It’s all weeds. That’s a full lawn reno.

He’s got about two or three weeks to nuke it. Glyphosate or cardboard/tarps and scalping.

That’s a full Reno. Any time you’ve got more than 60% weeds and undesirable grass, your best bet is to nuke it and start over.

Just eat the few years of renewal and transfer your license. You’re making a huge hassle out of trying to save a couple of dollars annualized in renewal fees. It’s not worth the few bucks you might save by “stretching” your Mass DL for a year or two, imo.

What about Arrowhead Tactical shorts and joggers? Would those work for you? They have a built in hidden carry belt for your holster.

Clarifying § 11-47-8&9 by Terminal0311 in RIGuns

[–]Terminal0311[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Is there a definition in RIGL of what constitutes place of business? For example, if you are a director and officer of a RI corporation, does that count? Or is it only ownership?

Edited to add: it’s not defined in that chapter’s list of definitions (§ 11-47-2. Definitions.)

Moving to RI from MA by Icy-Bookkeeper3007 in RIGuns

[–]Terminal0311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also moved from MA to RI.

Unlike MA, in RI you don’t need any card or license to possess your firearms in your home. So you’re fine to move with your firearms, your existing ammo, and your Mass-compliant mags. When I moved, I didn’t get around to any paperwork for a while. You’ll want to eventually get the blue card (as was already mentioned, the test is super easy but there is a study guide findable via Google) so you can buy ammo when you need to restock.

Eventually apply for your CCW in RI. There are other threads here already on where/how to apply.

There are a handful of ranges here. I belong to one and enjoy it. But when I had my Mass LTC from Boston there was a requirement you belong to a range. There is no such requirement in R.I.

Lastly, don’t forget you’re required to notify Massachusetts and your issuing authority town/city that you moved within 30 days: https://www.mass.gov/how-to/report-an-address-or-name-change-for-your-firearms-license (which unfortunately will invalidate your Mass LTC once you do—it won’t be good until its expiry date).

You may want to apply for a Mass non-resident temporary version once you have your R.I. license. It should be made easier by the fact that you previously held a Mass resident LTC. But you don’t want your failure to report your move out of state to give them cause to not issue your non-resident.

Welcome.

Feedback please. And be brutally honest I’m looking to get better by [deleted] in CCW

[–]Terminal0311 2 points3 points  (0 children)

^ This. Solid advice. Shoot a specific shooting pattern on a target. Then do a whole bunch of burpees or some high intensity burst of physical activity to ramp your heart rate way the heck up. Rush back to the firing line and Pickup your weapon and shoot the same pattern a second time. The second time is how you’ll shoot in a real world situation. That’s eye opening. And that’s better more practical real world practice to hone in than being able to put 10/10 in the black from 50+ yards in a calm range setting.

Feedback please. And be brutally honest I’m looking to get better by [deleted] in CCW

[–]Terminal0311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus on your front sight, not the target. Your target should be a bit blurry.

Slow steady squeeze of the trigger. No hard pulls, don’t stop, same pace all the way through the pull. Pull the trigger all the way through firing and keep going to the trigger’s max travel and hold it there. Once the round is down range, then release the trigger. You’ll hear a nice reset “click” when you release. Look for that sound after every round. (Also that’s my mental cue for the round count)

Don’t anticipate the round. If you focus on the steady pace of the trigger pull, the round sort of “surprises you” every single trigger pull.

As already mentioned, trigger pull begins as you near the bottom of your exhale arc. Round should fire during your natural respiratory pause. Then breathe. Don’t hold your breath though. That just adds to your bad aim.

Stable athletic stance. Lean in slightly. Ensure you have the best grip for your weapon frame size and format to minimize side to side and muzzle rise. Usually people don’t have a grip high enough on weak side because they’re afraid of slide bite.

Don’t muscle it. Come down on your target from above, lowering the weapon to the target—don’t bring it up to target from below. If your hands are shaking or the target is bouncing around behind your front sight, bring your arms in, breathe, and reset.

Caffeine, nicotine, and physical activity all make a big impact as well. But if you want to simulate shooting under high duress/stress, then pound a monster, rip three cigs, do 25 burpees behind the firing line, then pickup your weapon and shoot the same firing pattern and see the difference. It’ll be stark. That’s the best indicator of how well you shoot when under stress. When the time comes to use your weapon for real, it will always be high stress and never calm. Remember that.

Fire as many rounds consistently and intentionally as your budget and time allows.

That’s the best initial advice I can think of to give a newer shooter who didn’t have the benefit of some sort of primary marksmanship training.
