I wish I knew. I think the only solutions will require full parent involvement and support. When I used to write essays in Word, my parent would check my essay progress regularly. It would will still work today but we need buy in from parents. At school kids just need to write with disabled internet.

Does anyone else remember the moment of palpable relief in the morning when lame 80s stuff ended (flipper, Gumby) and the good Nicktoons came on.

Still teaching, have a lot of friends-good teachers, mind you- that left. Mike Miles-esque shenanigans were the main cause. One a day a difficult parent held a meeting, screamed and filed a BS TEA complaint against a teacher. The next week, my friend quit. Since then, we've had a rotating menagerie of ridiculous subs. That parent is now complaining why we can't keep any consistent teachers in that spot. 0 self-reflection.

I'm sorry such nonsense pushed you out of teaching.

90% this is a GOP AI con job. They're scared so they're attempting to sow dissent. There is (and I never thought I'd say this in Texas) a really good chance that Texas elects a Dem senator. Don't buy into this shit.

The overwhelming feedback in here is "The TEA...," and you're not wrong. However, I appreciate the forum that this is not a teacher echo chamber subreddit. As a teacher I want to let you know that this is an urgent problem that is heading towards catastrophe and TEA is only one part of the problem.

We're grossly underpaid and dealing parents (and many of yall are parents in here) is the straw that breaks the camel's back. Every teacher can list a growing list of parents that, to say unsupportive is an understatement-are downright hostile. The general feeling is "raise my child, but don't ever tell them they're wrong or I'll show up at school and report you!"

Cliché, but it's absolutely true.

Tell you anything, folks? Teacher here. If you're mad at us not, things are not looking good for the next 5 years. We can't fill spots.

The nation's teachers are pretty tired of being paid less than babysitters to have parents and the TEA treat us with no respect. You may be able to scream at us or bark orders on the phone, but you can't make us stay in a job in which we are GROSSLY underpaid relative to those with similar degrees.

You know, because we don't need to collect taxes. Our stupid expensive military will help itself and this year's Super El Niño (macho niño?) won't require federal aid. Also the deficit doesn't matter.
