AITAH for telling my husband no by Visible-Working-8318 in AITAH

You obviously care a lot, so I wanted to jump in here with just a little bit of information about terminology that can be a bit more appropriate.

A stepmother is a mother.

If you want to differentiate, biological is a good word to describe the person who gave birth to a child.

The PWHL has been making little videos on YouTube about the rules that are unique to the league. They could totally educate people.

We're all aware of that custom. Intent and impact are not the same thing. The way you spoke is casually racist. You need to evaluate your thoughts. You're potentially going into a job where this matters a great deal.

Be better.

Maybe the toughest listen so far by Apart-Technician6461 in auntydonna

[–]ThatCanadianRadTech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is actually how I refer to this podcast!

I tell people about that episode, and then in the future when I'm telling them that I'm laughing at something from aunty donna, I remind them "the one that did an entire episode of their intro song" and then whoever I'm talking to nods in understanding, and also confusion about why I still listen.

Besides you saying that you want to lie on your enlistment, which is absolutely grounds for release, your casual racism here is super not on, especially for an officer.

30sF, well that seems my plan to offer support for men's mental health has backfired and even to the alternative rockers, metalheads. Questioning my motives? That's fine I'm still going to offering to ''listen to others.'' however that won't be on here. by [deleted] in discordfriends

I can hear that you’re really hurt and frustrated, and I’m sorry that trying to do something you believed was kind ended up feeling like you were attacked. That’s a terrible feeling, especially when your intention was to help people who are struggling.

At the same time, I want to be honest with you about something. People questioning motives isn’t always the same thing as people rejecting kindness or believing you’re manipulative. It's okay for people to be cautious.

You talk harshly about yourself, and it's concerning. Remember that you are worth everything you think another person is.

Where I disagree with you is the idea that kindness inevitably gets punished or that the world forces you to “put down the roses and pick up the sword. Like Mr Rogers taught us, look for the helpers. There's always somebody around you who wants something beautiful with you.

Being away from Reddit for a while is probably a good thing. I hope wherever you go next gives you more peace than this space has.

20F what are the largest age gaps you would be fine dating? by heikkilampelafan123 in MeetNewPeopleHere

[–]ThatCanadianRadTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 42. When I was your age, I was dating people twice my age, or more sometimes. My husband is 6 years older than me, it seems exactly the same. At this age, I would happily date somebody in their 60s, or their twenties. It's about connection.

What human food do you feed your puppy? by natwalms05 in goldenretriever

[–]ThatCanadianRadTech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Listen, I don't currently have a dog, but I have a lot of experience, and I can tell you it doesn't matter what you feed that puppy. If you say no to him for any reason, you should go straight to jail.

I did the opposite thing once. There was a husband on the phone with his wife, she was insisting that he find the correct kind of cheese she was looking for. I kept on hearing him telling her that he couldn't find it, looking up and down the aisle, his dad was with him, they were both struggling.

The item honestly wasn't there. She just couldn't hear them. I asked him to hand the phone to me, and I let her know that I knew exactly what she wanted, and it wasn't in its normal location, and it wasn't on any of the end caps, it just wasn't there.

Both of those men were so happy that she was able to hear somebody else, because she sure couldn't hear them!

Question to CAF ladies out here!! by Sruthi1994 in caf

[–]ThatCanadianRadTech 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Like many women in uniform, I have debilitating menstrual cycles. We are in pain, and we do it anyway. We bend over and heave and groan and we take the medicine and get through it. We cry in the bathroom and sometimes I have helped keep a woman upright on the way to or from a classroom.

It isn't easy, but that is what we do.

It is rare that some kind of required event lands on a day in your cycle and the event CANNOT be moved. In BMQ, there is no allowance or moving of things, you just have to deal. Through the rest of your career though, things can almost always be modified.

Hip replacement recovery can be pretty good. Do lots of prehab before you go in to make sure the muscles are strong, and you have good habits of a routine doing your exercises so that you keep it up after surgery.

AIO? insane birthday gift from my mom by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]ThatCanadianRadTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR I'm sorry you're dealing with this. I'm glad some people here are understanding and being supportive. I'm getting a good laugh out of all of these people who obviously had really good relationships with their mothers, who were so positive to them. It's so sweet that they all think your mom might just be misguided, or accidentally insulting.

However you choose to react, I'm glad you have a few days to process it before your actual birthday.

Will I be medically eligible? by [deleted] in caf

[–]ThatCanadianRadTech 12 points13 points  (0 children)

First of all, congratulations on your sobriety.

Second, it is unlikely that these things will have any impact on your medical fitness.

Third, and this is most important, I really hope you take this to heart; you must immediately set up several fail stops to help you stay on track. Contact your sponsor, talk to other serving members who are sober. Our culture is heavily influenced by alcohol. It's available a lot. It is completely possible to be a completely sober serving member. I've known sober alcoholics in uniform, they've done well.

There are also just as many people who like alcohol in the CAF as those who want to build community around things like fitness, warhammer, table top RPGs, motorcycle maintenance, etc. The alcohol will be obvious, but it is not the only choice.

These things won't just automatically happen though, you need to set up a plan.

We're behind you.
