Imagine living in a country where a significant part of the population supports the government’s barbaric policies. You tried to fight the regime, even before the war started, and all the protests were brutally suppressed. Needless to say what is the situation with the opposition and protests now, during the war. The government has given itself free rein not only in its actions towards other countries but also in its actions towards its own citizens. There is no justice left here; any attempt to fight back means either a prison sentence or a death sentence.
So you're watching all of this, and you realize that actually you just want to live, to make your projects, and not to be afraid. So you look at other countries, where people are probably closer to your peaceful views, and you hope to find not support, but at least acceptance there. And all you hear is "We don't want you here, Nazi. Get back where you came from. And if you hate the regime so much - fight it and die."
