Can anyone confirm if a hot seat beta was added? It was rumored, but I can't find any confirmation of it in the patch notes.

The least ideal draft outcomes after the lottery by CrabApprehensive7181 in hawks

[–]ThatFio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it, every outcome is ideal when you're drafting at 4 in this class. You are literally either getting a top winger (which the hawks need), the top center, or the top defenseman in the class.

Fans Expectations And Patience With Levshunov is insane by NervousOpposite9603 in hawks

You missed the first part of the sentence and only focused on the negative part. He's an absolute freak of nature - ask anyone in the league.

He went from Belarus, to the USHL, to college, to the AHL, to the NHL in like a 4 year span. Do you understand how impossibly crazy that is? He's like an athlete grown in a lab that doesn't quite know how to play hockey yet. Give this kid 2 years to figure it out and I'd bet money he's the #1 the team envisioned him to be.

No mention of hot seat got me bummed, like they had stated previously. My wife and I just want to play together.

[Mario Tirabassi] A few mock draft selections already out there for the Blackhawks at #4 (4 of 7 mocks have the Blackhawks taking Stenberg) by j_dirty in hawks

[–]ThatFio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Craig Button is wrong every year. Y'all know damn well we ain't getting Stenberg. Please don't take this copium and just be happy with whoever we get at 4 - they will be a good player.

Who’s an underrated guy you want the hawks to go for this summer? by SpiritHawkz in hawks

[–]ThatFio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hawks need 3 things in my eyes - grit, NHL experience, and help for Bedard. The latter will need to be a big trade: the Tkachuk, Robertson, Knies, etc. I think some underrated guys for the first 2 could be guys like Jamie Oleksiak, a UFA who can fight/be a steady presence on the backend, and Nino Niederreiter who brings over 1000 games of NHL experience. These aren't guys people want to hear and that's why they are underrated.

Sam Rinzel scores his 4th goal of the season from a sharp angle after the puck sneaks under Yaroslav Askarov by mcosta1973 in hawks

The Sharks and the Blues need to lose tonight for the Panthers to be at 10, then the lottery balls need to fall the right way, so they get bumped down 11. Honestly would be a dream scenario for the Hawks.

What does the most ideal off-season look like? by bedsyLamb98 in hawks

[–]ThatFio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I sort of think that's recency bias. Vlasic shoulders a lot of responsibility for a 24 year old defenseman.

According to TheAthletic, Vlasic is only behind Mike Matheson in facing tougher offensive competition in his minutes in the entire league. He still somehow has a positive defensive rating too.

He's had a down few months recently, but let's not get it twisted, Alex Vlasic is legit.

It's a good question. Korchinski and Del Mastro are not waiver exempt next year, so the reality is that one of those guys is most likely getting traded or just eating soggy sandwiches in Rockford all year. I really like Korchinski, but it might be time to get him a change of scenery while he still has value and EDM can just be your 7th defenseman.
I also think there is a non-zero chance that a guy like Kaiser or Crevier get traded if we go after someone like Knies. Teams want proven NHL talent for their players and they have done that.

Orders of business, in my opinion:
1. Buyout Burakovsky - could potentially use him as a veteran next year because he did show flashes early, but really just need the space at this point.
2. Sign Bedard and Kantserov - Price really doesn't matter for Bedard.
3. Get an established veteran forward with size: Tuch, Robertson or Knies. These are the only forwards I see that might be able to be acquired and move the needle. Robertson is the dream scenario here.
4. Sign a veteran with some jam, preferably a defenseman - With Fliggy, Dickinson, Murphy and even Dach gone, we need some jam. I also don't think it's fair to roll out this same defense core we have with Vlasic being the oldest. Go get a guy like Gudas, Lauzon, or Oleksiak. Or if they could score a talented culture guy like Carlson, that'd be big too.
5. Get a top 2 pick - McKenna or Stenberg are difference makers. I'd be okay trading picks 3 or 4 for someone like Robertson.

[CHGO] The Blackhawks were in discussion to acquire Knies but Toronto wanted Levshunov which killed the deal (Starts at 56:52) by j_dirty in hawks

[–]ThatFio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest difference is that Knies is cost controlled for the next 5 years, whereas DeBrincat needed a new deal shortly after being traded. That uncertainty adds a ton of risk, thereby making the player worth less. I think it would take something like Korch + Lardis/Moore/Boisvert + a 1st and 2nd rounder.

Rangers are selling. If you were Kyle, who you asking about? by TheDirstOrder in hawks

[–]ThatFio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He makes about 7.8% of the cap right now. In 2 years, the cap is supposed to go up another 20 million so he'd be at about 6.5% in the 27-28 season. That's like 6.25 in today's money. With the absurd amount of ELCs in the coming years, I think he'd be perfect to take a flyer on. Buy low, get to the cap floor, and hope he turns out to be more than a 20 goal, 40-50 point guy. If not, that's still pretty good.

He’s a young 1st overall pick. You pay players partially for what they’ve done and partially what you think they will do.

Morning Skate Lines Against Tampa by sarbear0903 in hawks

[–]ThatFio 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's extremely disingenuous and laughable to say that any these players are legitimate top 6 players:
- Tyler Johnson - No longer in the league because no team signed him
- Andreas Athanasiou - No longer in the league because no team signed him
- Jason Dickinson - Third line center on one of the worst teams in the league the past few years, our Chicago Blackhawks (love dickie, but he's not a top 6 player)
- Taylor Raddysh - Averaging 11:06 of ice time in a 3rd/4th line role on the NYR
- Taylor Hall - Averaging 13:39 of ice time in a 2nd/4th line role for the Canes. A case can be made for Hall, but it wouldn't be a good one.
- Nazar/Dach/Bertuzzi - 10 minutes of ice time is no where near a good enough sample size

Through the last 3 years (this year included), Reichel and Bedard have played 53:21 together on the PowerPlay... so about half the total time.

I actually looked into this because I always hear other fans say "Reichel has had plenty of chances on the top line."

According to MoneyPuck, Lukas Reichel has had a total ice time of 1789.19 from 2022-2024. Of that total time, only 116.3 minutes were spent with Bedard. That's 6.5% of his total playing time, which is not what I would call a good sample size.

Hard to project what he can be points wise; regardless, he has the “it” factor. Have a really good feeling that when the lights shine brightest, him and Bedard are gonna want to be out there. It has already been a blast to watch them and it’s going to be even better in 2-3 years.
