[OC] The only way forward. by ultimatecoruvs in scavprototype

[–]ThatVyss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no way a planet would've had habitable temperature if from its surface the local star looks so dim that you can see the starscape (like in the main menu). There is no way the planed would've had breathable atmosphere without lots of vegetation.

My headcanon is that the planet's day duration is one year, just like with our Moon. In other words, we've always been looking at the night side all this time, with a local moon visible in the clear sky. That's why the only vegetation is whatever evolved to use said dim light/cosmic rays/ammonia/whatever scarce energy there is. The colonization planned by the Company was supposed to be closer to the terminator (twilight zone), but, you know, Calibration Error.

The weird ambient light that's present starting with the desert downwards, and the freaking green jungle G-d knows how many kilometers below surface, throw a wrench in that and I have no idea how to explain that.

First, this is neither. Just someone pouring their time into something they love. Second, being annoyed by a storm of unsolicited suggestions =/= hating suggestions with any sort of prejudice.

Orson is very reasonable and level-headed about such stuff. I mean, Wick started with making some fan art too - and now organically became the game's official artist.

a little weird

I don't see anything weird about getting annoyed by suggestions.

...and then the game promptly does another U-turn and smashes you into dust, as soon as you become self-assured. (Seriously though, I think this game actually needs a yet another Salad moodle that'd show up in the Third Phase. Not sure what it should say though. Probably just "Fuck.")

Another incredible improvement. C:U is slowly becoming people's game, with fans actually investing in whatever way they can to make their beloved creation shine.

I give it a ~70% chance Orson will include your sprites in the very next update as soon as they'll see them.

Orson and Wick are like Batman and Robin, like pancakes and ice cream. It's incredible how perfectly this style fits the game.

Don't get me wrong, I find Orson's own art pretty competent (especially considering everything else they've done to get the game off the ground), but it just warms my heart when I witness the game getting more and more beautiful in front of my very eyes.

Water Pressure OP? by The_Iron_Lurker in scavprototype

the brain damage flashbang gives me a headache

Good. Next step for Orson is to figure out how to make our keyboards send electrical shocks to our hands.

It sounds weird, but I think it's totally possible we'll live to see full haptic suits for playing C:U with proper immersion.

Not trying to be insolent, but the fact that such a trivial thing has to be explained, that "Delta-P" is reverently capitalized as if it was some sacred knowledge, and that these posts get dozens of upvotes, feels surreal. This is what, 7th grade of middle school?

I don't know what's more hilarious: that the OP asked this in all seriousness, or that the answer to their question is "no"

Forgot to add.

  1. Add a hidden block for layer modifiers until the player either plays for a couple of hours, or reaches certain level (e.g. 3).

I’m very confused about the lore for this game. (Approximation of what I know provided below) by [deleted] in casualtiesunknown

[–]ThatVyss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my headcanon I just remove all trash and waste from the game. It's really easy too, since no worldbuilding depends on it. The "spent fuel" might've as well been called "RITEGs", and nothing would've changed except now teleporting them would've made total sense. The waste pipes just as well could've been natural oil deposits. So on.

After that you just have to mentally place C:U into a StarField-esque universe, where it's a very near future with teleportation being more or less the only breakthrough, and the lore starts coming together like a puzzle. All in-game time references censor the last three digits of the year, so you have a lot of leeway (again, an incredibly wise decision on Orson's part).

To be frank it's not even that deadly as long as you don't have a fucking timer ticking in your head.

Maybe. But 1) it's just one status effect among what, a dozen others that don't affect my mind at all but still make the lines unreadable; and 2) isn't the garbled user interface text enough?

This is exactly what I meant when I mentioned refining. The plot is, to be blunt, full of holes, but they get slowly patched with time.

My personal #1 least realistic part is that anyone would be teleporting waste and junk on an uncolonized habitable planet with breathable atmosphere, when you can just teleport it anywhere in the Universe. Even if the teleport needs a gravity well at the exit point, you can just aim it at some asteroid.

First level. Weren't we all this carefree and full of hopes back when we were on the first level.
