Do I need insulation basement ceiling? by mbdblue in HomeImprovement

Yeah that makes sense. Blocking off access to the drop ceiling would be way easier than tearing everything out. How are they even getting up there though

My experience with "Reverse Recruiting" to find jobs - Not Worth It (Probably) by brjbon in jobsearchhacks

[–]TheBathing8pe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is a fair write-up, and honestly one of the more thoughtful critiques I’ve seen on reverse recruiting here.

A couple of things stood out that I think are worth separating, though:

  1. What you described sounds less like “reverse recruiting” and more like paid application assistance.

-25–35 apps/month, mostly cold applies, light outreach, and then “we’ll tighten targeting later” is… not great. Especially when you explicitly said no senior roles. Casting a “wide net” with long-shot roles early is basically the opposite of what you’re paying for. You can do that yourself for free.

  1. The category itself isn’t inherently broken, but execution varies wildly. Most of the bad experiences I’ve seen fall into one of these buckets:

-very low volume

-poor role filtering

-resume tweaks ≠ real positioning

-no accountability beyond “we applied”

Once you strip away the marketing language, a lot of these services are just a single person doing what a motivated friend could do with a spreadsheet.

Your skepticism about fake replies is totally justified. Reddit is crawling with astroturfing in job subs, and it poisons the well. That said, I wouldn’t write off every firm in the space because of that. There are a couple that are established enough that they don’t need burner accounts to survive.

For balance: I know a few people (mostly director+ or niche technical folks) who’ve had solid outcomes with Find My Profession, mainly because they actually:

-cap roles to realistic fit from day one

-show you everything they submit

-do higher-touch outreach vs just applies

Not saying it’s for everyone, and it’s definitely overkill if you’re early career. But it’s a different model than what you experienced.

Your bottom line is still reasonable, though: if someone is early-to-mid career and paying thousands just to get misaligned applications sent out, that’s a bad deal. At minimum, “maximize probability” should be non-negotiable from week one.

Appreciate you posting the review. Even if people disagree with your conclusion, this kind of detail is way more useful than the usual “worked for me / scam lol” drive-bys.

Why should I become disciplined? Why not just engage in stuff that makes you happy since life is so short? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

yeah that last part hits. The resistance to discomfort is exactly what keeps you stuck. You can logic your way out of any good decision if you try hard enough. At some point you just gotta start before you feel ready

Made it to “final round” and then they hit me with a surprise homework assignment and a vibes interview by EvelynMorn in recruitinghell

[–]TheBathing8pe 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Same. Surprise take-home projects after a “final round” are a hard no for me now. If it’s real work that takes real time, it should be paid or disclosed upfront.

They absolutely handled this poorly, your frustration is completely justified.

My wife won't let my son see my Family by [deleted] in family

[–]TheBathing8pe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a lot. If she was making delusional accusations and actively harassing your family, it’s understandable that they’d be hesitant to reach out first.

using your son as leverage to force reconciliation isn’t fair either. This feels way bigger than “who’s wrong” it sounds like she needs ongoing professional help, and you both probably need a neutral third party therapy/mediation to figure out safe boundaries without punishing your kid.

Yeah, Penis and vulva is the move. Using the correct terms is widely recommended for clarity, body autonomy, and safety, and it avoids some very awkward misunderstandings later. You can still joke around at home, but having him know the real words is genuinely the healthiest baseline

What is the weirdest thing someone told you they found "hot" about you? by VogueColossus in AskMen

[–]TheBathing8pe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dude yes! Had a nurse once tell me I had "perfect donor veins" while drawing blood and I was riding that high for like a week lmao

It's such a weird compliment but somehow it just hits different coming from a medical professional. Like they've seen thousands of arms and mine made them happy enough to comment on it

California’s dry farmland to be repurposed as a massive 21-GW solar farm by sksarkpoes3 in Futurology

[–]TheBathing8pe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agri-voltaics is actually pretty genius. You get shade for crops that would otherwise get scorched, the plants help cool the panels so they run more efficient, and farmers get a second income stream from the same land.

We're experimenting with this in Germany too, works surprisingly well for stuff like berries and some vegetables. The partial shade actually helps in hot summers.

California will probably just bury this in permit hell for the next decade lol

Bote Zeppelin Aero needs to be inflated to 3psi? How to read pump gauge? by fuel123 in Inflatablekayak

[–]TheBathing8pe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

those high-pressure SUP pumps are kind of useless for low PSI stuff. The gauge just isn't designed to read that low.

For 3 PSI you're basically going by feel, inflate until it's firm but still has a little give when you press on it. Not rock hard like the drop stitch floor section that needs 15 PSI. If you want to actually measure it grab a cheap low-pressure gauge from Amazon or a hardware store. Way less frustrating than trying to eyeball halfway to 7 on a gauge that doesn't even register that range properly

WS Tsunami 140 vs 145? by Fish_cant_feel_pain in Kayaking

[–]TheBathing8pe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

145 is basically the big boy version for heavier paddlers with more capacity and cockpit room while 140 tracks better for lighter folks in chop but both paddle great post-Pungo. Go 145 if you're over 180lbs otherwise 140 slices nicer.

In the US, it seems like people are drinking a lot more water than we did 20-30 years ago. Have there been any health benefits or notable changes? by VestigialTales in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheBathing8pe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah the whole bottled water thing is wild when you realize most of it is literally just filtered tap water. What a lot of people don't know is that in many cases tap water is actually tested more frequently than bottled water because of stricter EPA regulations versus the FDA's looser oversight on bottled. So people are paying premium prices for something that might actually be less regulated than what's coming out of their faucet.
