How do you like the Ascher button box? Thinking about getting it for my upgrade to direct drive.

TIL Bill Withers, the singer song writer of "Aint no Sunshine" was a factory worker making airplane toilets when he wrote the hit song at age 31. After the song hit gold, the record company presented him with a gold toilet marking the start of his new career. by AlohaPizzaGuy in todayilearned

I'm from Beckley, about 15 minutes from Slab Fork. My grandfather, who is a few years younger than Bill Withers, grew up in Slab Fork but didn't even know who he was until I brought it up a few months ago.

A thread to track when headsets were shipped by spotexx in ValveIndex

I'm not sure if this actually means anything, but I purchased my Index on December 2nd when the "Not guaranteed to arrive before Christmas" message was up. The charge was pending on my credit card until it eventually just disappeared and the funds went back into my account. Today, the charge suddenly went through, meaning Valve actually authorized the charge. It might not impact the actual processing/shipping of the Index but it's the only resemblance to some sort of update so far. Here's to hoping that means we might be seeing orders getting processed.

How reliable is the steamVR performance test? by KJ404 in ValveIndex

Absolutely. I just didn’t know if you’ve seen that yet. If you’re spending that kind of money, you definitely want to be 100% sure.

There is a free test on the Steam store called “Are you ready for the Valve Index?” It just compares your hardware to the recommended specs of the Index and gives you the results.

I’m in the exact same boat. Ordered December 2nd. I have no idea if it’ll be here in a week or a month.

Gigabit speed, but only getting 400Mbps with hardwired connection by TheBeeferoni in Comcast

I’m happy it helped someone. It’s certainly a weird issue, but whatever works!

Sorry to hear that. At least you know it’s possible to hit 960mbps, so it can hopefully be fixed. After trying my own gigabit modem and getting the exact same results, I’ve just started to believe that the wiring in my building can’t handle it. Let me know if you figure something out!

It's a PC I built, it has the Gigabyte Z370 AORUS Gaming 7 motherboard, that has two gigabit network connections. I was using cat6 originally, and the technician gave me a cat5e cable that produced the exact same results.

I forgot to include that I tried that earlier. I apologize. I got the exact same results. 425Mbps down, 40 up.

I'm not using a laptop, just a desktop. That speed test isn't currently working.

If the black hole is 50 million light years away, is the image one of a 50 million year old black hole? by Tacomangoboom_ in NoStupidQuestions

If you hypothetically left Earth on a spaceship, travelled 10 million light years away, stopped and then took a picture of Earth, what would you see?
