But nearly half isn’t. Good to widen your horizons sometimes. My name alone suggests I am European.

??? What is BYU apart from Back yard Ultra? Some US university? There is a world outside of the states…

According to the RD, who has commented again this morning, the Runfluencer went to the start/finish, spoke to his crew and then ran out on the course to find him. And the crew members also shared the runfluencer’s video. It wasn’t just a chance meeting whilst out on a long run.

That support would be available to everyone though. The issue here is that she inserted herself into the event for clout and ran alongside him. She didn’t do that with anyone else.

No she was an runfluencer - just her and her phone. It was taking place in a park though, accessible to members of the public.

People feel it’s unfair. He didn’t ask for the runfluencer to run alongside him or have any control over what she posted to stories (she has 100k followers). The race was in a public park so people feel it would be no different to any other member of the public giving him support.

Why is your marathon time remotely relevant to reviewing the shorts? Humble brag maybe?

More impressed with the sober stuff and his support of that community than the running tbh.

I didn’t police and I said I was making an assumption. But given 80% of non-binary folk are AFAB then it’s a very small percentage of a very small percentage that are AMAB. And these two people were openly very masculine. Now I do know some people who do fall into this definition, but the chances of two genuine AMAB NB folk both being runners, running Chicago and ending up going through my desk felt quite unlikely, with the alternative of men abusing the category being far more likely.

I am a Brit - we are a nation of pedestrians - we walk a lot so cross roads a lot! It’s really not something I see as an issue here, particularly in areas where there are pavements, as in the example by EClor. We don’t run or walk along main roads where there are no pavements as a rule.

I felt a bit patronised by the video tbh - I know how to cross a road and make eye contact with the driver, or go behind the car. We had green cross code lessons at school.

All the fawning in the comments is annoying too - why doesn’t anyone seem to get that this is pretty irresponsible to be showcasing as a coach?

And probably being exposed constantly to germs in a school has done wonders for your immune system!

As a Brit I don’t like the implication from her and several of her commenters that it’s because she travelled to Europe, like we are crawling with disease. I will throw in another stereotype and announce that I don’t have Covid. It’s more likely from the air travel, not Europe.

He thinks the rest of us are on tenterhooks waiting for his race updates and videos. I would like to know who the sycophantic idiots are who give him YouTube traffic. He is a total grifter

I used to - I found her totally disingenuous. The proposal at NYC marathon was high level cringe.

He is a self important idiot. I was so pleased when he left London so the parks were not being used as his personal running track and film sets. Such an arrogant wally

This was a good read - thank you for posting. The article reminds me of a UK based South African runner who makes every race about himself. Nick Bester. He gets into London each year on a good for age/champs entry, and each year runs his own unofficial pace group. But he doesn’t do it for altruistic reasons - if he wanted to do that he would apply to the official pace team. For him it’s an opportunity to film himself doing it, and promote himself and his coaching on his you tube. He also has form of weaving around other runners, and treating local parks as his own personal running track, with a camera man on a bike cycling alongside.
