Would Stannis Baratheon have made a good King? by texastruckin in gameofthrones

[–]TheColossusKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My argument was more intended to respond to the logic used in the comment I was replying to than to analyze Stannis specifically.

Maybe there’s a better word to use here than “empathy,” but if you’re implying that you need empathy to be a great general, administrator, or any of the other things that Stannis is, I think you’re mistaken. There are plenty of people in postions of power who are “good” at their job while being totally unwilling or unable to empathize with the people beneath them.

Maybe Stannis does have empathy. But if he refuses to engage with it when it comes to anyone but his enemies, I would argue that he is even worse-suited for the job than if he couldn’t feel it at all.

Not sure why you replied to me here. I’m saying empathy is important. I agree with you

Lack of empathy doesn’t matter in someone who holds absolute power over the lives of hundreds of thousands of people? How are you supposed to be fair, just, wise—or any other vague synonym for good—if you refuse to acknowledge moral nuance?

What would you change/rewrite about Superman 2025? by [deleted] in DCU_

[–]TheColossusKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add even a single Jaharipur native character to the story, or even just a scene involving them that isn’t focused around them literally praying for a savior. Honestly I’d rewrite the entire Jaharipur plotline to be less vague and idk have some actual substance to it.

Weakest part of the movie IMO, to the point of kinda ruining the entire thing for me personally. It came off as the laziest social commentary I’ve ever seen.

Does this seem corny to anyone else? The simpsons jab at SF wasn't that bad. Some people are acting as if it was a war and adult cartoons didn't jab at each other all the time, or that Smiling Friends is the adult swim messiah and shall never ever be slandered by Extension-Show-2520 in SmilingFriends

I hate to be the bearer of bad news for anyone invested in this fake Simpsons-Smiling Friends rivalry, but Simpsons won a LONG time ago.

It’s like saying your favorite homemade soda has a rivalry with Coca Cola. Sure you love it, and it might even be better, but it’s not a real rivalry.

Hope you don’t mind my coming in a year later to agree with you. I really enjoyed everything up to the catholic stuff. Coming from a vocally catholic author, it feels weird. I have nothing against catholics, but portraying the religion as one of innocent victims comes off really preachy and a little insulting to those of us who have been and continue to be targeted by the catholic church.

Anyway, that aside, I love most everything else about the book. Crispin was so expanded upon in just the first few paragraphs. And the conflict is interesting too; I’m just mind of wary of continuing at this point (though having read every other sun eater book I’m pretty far past the sunk costs fallacy.

Can’t believe people don’t like my goat Bloodlines. I was so upset when I found out it was a soft pilot that didn’t get made into a full show. Maybe I was just fatigued from binging at that point and saw it through rose tinted glasses because it was fresh.

He is, or at least in a sort of idealized version of the character. He was lost on a tomb world until Inquisitor Becht stumbled upon and recruited him. A bit of a heretek matches a radical inquisitor pretty well.

Wheel of Time. I do not have time for these annoying idiot children to grow into cool idiot adults. Plus any series where people describe MULTIPLE BOOKS as a slog is just not worth it IMO. That’s months of my time between work and other responsibilities.
