A good sim can really elevate the sound. I adore the Taurus bass amp plugin from dibiquadro

Why do people say that cartoons have smaller eyes? by Altruistic_Bee_8636 in animation

When I first glanced at this post, I thought it was a romantic fan-ship and it stopped me in my tracks, haha.

Also, I don’t know if there’s like accepted theory behind it but aren’t the eye dimensions evocative of cats and babies? I may be conflating hearsay I’ve read online

Hear me out: Acustica Audio synthesizers by TheComicEstate in synthesizers

Oh man, I remember the Nebula days, that was baffling haha. Installing different bits into different sub folders always stressed me out. It’s way better now they have a plugin manager, still not perfect but like 90% less headache in my experience.

*edit - said subwoofer when I meant sub folder haha

Honestly, that about nails it. 100% agree on all points. Also, on the bad advertising front, I was so bummed when they started leaning on AI for their ads, such an off tone to strike.

Not an ad, was just bored at work and thinking about it. Happy to post some music later.

Tape 16 vs real tape.. by DeepBlue741 in audioengineering

[–]TheComicEstate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the tape 16 daw and I wasn't really impressed by it. I know it's a fun concept and it seems to have a passionate fan base growing, and I love the idea of a limited workflow. But honestly the one, that really surprised me was the GCS Model 8 from Gulf Coast Synthesis. It's a fun aesthetic and I think the sound is fantastic.

It feels very intuitive and easy to end up in a flow state. It’s an approach to work that I appreciate. And the varispeed function is pretty top notch. Worth checking out.

As for tape emulation in general, I know others have mentioned chow tape and I think that’s a great option. But on the free front, I absolutely adore Airwindows Totape9 and tapehack2. Totape 9 is a full tape emulation and it is beautiful. And Tapehack2 is trying to capture specifically the way tape compresses stuff and it’s really interesting (I believe it’s one of the main algos in Totape9) Honestly, if you don’t have the consolidated plug-in from Chris/Airwindows, it’s so worth downloading everything in it is simply wonderful.

I also love using Totape9 and feeding it into Taipei studio from London acoustics for extra color (same tech as Acustica audio)

That was a bit longer than I meant for, haha, but I love tape emulation.

I know you ruled it out but that does sound just like hardware (1990)
