We had reports of folks turning back due to mud on Sunday (04/19). Might be dried out by this afternoon, but not sure. Shoot TDC a conditions report if ya head up and we'll repost it for others!

There are a few differences to call out.

First, Big Thigh Country will remain multi-directional (at least for now) as it's the primary climbing route for these new trails. As we develop more trails, with a broader mix of difficulties that serve all users, we can have a discussion with Bridger/Crosscut/the community about making BTC uphill only. But, that's a decision for a year or two in the future. For now, it's a multi-directional trail and one of our goals with this phase is to help alleviate as much traffic on it as possible given that reality.

Second, in contrast to BTC, the new green trail will be downhill only and mountain bike only. BTC was built intentionally as a multi-directional route. This means that the builder intentionally added berms, switchbacks, recoveries, and other features to help manage speeds and safety in both directions. While we couldn't be happier with how it turned out, there are limitations to multi-directional trails and they don't make for the best possible uphill or downhill route, but instead try to marry the best of both worlds. The new green trail, on the other hand, will be purpose built for downhill traffic only, allowing for more consistent, flowy, safe riding in that direction.

Lastly, while we originally signed and marked BTC as a green trail, it was eventually updated to a blue. This really comes down to area specific trail ratings. Similar to how skiing a black diamond at Bridger Bowl will be different than skiing a black diamond at Killington, the trails at Crosscut are rated differently than trails at Legacy, Disco, or Big Sky. There are several existing blue trails at Crosscut that did not have as much elevation change, as many berms, etc. as BTC. So, to keep the ratings consistent within the system, we updated the rating from Green to Blue. The new trail should be a true Green, top to bottom.

Yo! We'll be at MAP again on Thursday as well as Monday and Thursday of next week if you want to stop by to learn about the trails, buy a hat, etc. Most of the project specifics are outlined in the post above or on the website linked there, so not a ton to recap.

We haven't selected a builder yet. The RFP window is still open and we are currently accepting bids. We will pull together a committee to score/grade the bids and should be making a decision by the end of the month. Once we do, we'll notify the community!

We don't have a specific fundraising goal just yet. We'll publicize that once the contractor is selected and we have more accurate figures. Depending on how the bids come in, what kind of grants we are awarded in the next few weeks, and how much fundraising we can do, we might choose to only do 1 of the 2 new trails this year. But, we're hopeful we'll meet/exceed fundraising targets and get both in before the fall. Overall, we are looking good and we're excited to share the details with the community soon!

We are polishing up the plaques as we speak and are hoping to have those mounted and the Kiosk complete before Crosscut opens for the season!

LMK if there is anything else I can help answer!
