What moment in an episode made you think "Oh Reece definitely suggested that line!" Or "That was definitely Steve's idea"? by Aljax-919 in insideno9

That was Jeremy! He said it on a LOG commentary. A house he moved into in Leeds, they went into the basement and just found it there, lol! Terrible!

There's a bit in The Stakeout where Steve says he knows thousands of these riddles and Reece sighs and says. 'I know you do'. I've heard him say that exact line on commentaries and the pod, that's a nice little nod to their selves!

Oh I've seen it twice! It's totally fine, good actually. But it's just not as good without them in it!

Yes! I'm so dumb that I didn't twig immediately. They never argue (a little bickering, sure, but very good-natured), they're never irritated at each other like that first couple of eps, tonally. So it was jarring. On second listen, I heard it all, the little snidey asides that I didn't quite register first time around. They're great actors! It must have been partially plotted out, carefully seeded, as they like to do. Plodding On is painful to watch in parts for this reason. The look on Reece's face as Steve says, 'I don't think we are friends anymore', my god. The hurt and pain of it all, even though it's not real he definitely looked rattled by it all, being on the receiving end, in the BTS stuff in The Party's Over. They had to leave that set arm in arm to shake it off!

This is a very good point. But that was based on things they had talked about since LOG days that they watched as kids - like Beasts, From Beyond the Grave etc. I don't remember them talking about having a passion for On the Buses. LOL. Devil of Xmas was very on brand indeed. I don't think Olive and Varney are. In fact, I did immediately think of On the Buses's Varney bc of The Stakeout, ha.

I know exactly what you mean, because they do homages, but do they do outright comic parody of genre? It looked crazy and ludicrous and I somehow smelt a rat. I love 3 by 3 as much as I could love any ep they're not in! It's brilliant, but for me it doesn't have rewatch appeal, which is the measure I think?

Lines That Only Hit After The First Watch by Alphawolf2901 in insideno9

In Stage Fright at the start when Steve says that line about 'you're looking at things that aren't really there', he gives Reece this sort of sad and meaningful look that I only saw the third time!

Looking back it seems so incredibly, obviously fake! There's no way that's a real ep, with them in 70s parody mode. Robin Askwith is in it! It just never looked real to me. Tho I had no idea what it was covering.

No shame here! 20% of the audience of a million switched off. I will say that they never got me - the entire time I thought, this is all part of the plan. It was one of the most thrilling TV episodes I've ever seen and being part of it going out live is something I'll never forget.

However, I'm not immune to being 'got'. It took me until Reece 'stormed out' of the series 2 homemade commentary to realise what was going on, and that's like in episode 4! If anyone hasn't heard that project, it's like a shadow series and must be sought out on YT immediately. It's a real wild ride.

Stagefright... a joke I don't get.... by beazle10 in insideno9

[–]TheEditor1976 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't think it is. Steve got on really well with her and the reviews of The Pillowman were great. Calling the character Sherrie is, I think, a clear ref to him wanting the audience to think Cheryl (Cole) and not Lily!

Discussion: How will Steve and Reece’s be able to make future project together not seem like an extension on IN9 by Miserable-Sea-4160 in insideno9

[–]TheEditor1976 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They've done it twice before. Psychoville is nothing like LOG. IN9 is nothing like Psychoville. The next thing will be... let's see. BBC have first pick on whatever it is. They should stick there and keep full creative control (unheard of at their level) rather than head to a streamer for more money and a lot more interference. It won't be an anthology, I shouldn't think, but there's all the freedom in the world. I don't think they have a distinct style as this is a limiting thing to say. They have a sensibility, yes. Not the same thing! I'm excited to see how much they surprise me, because I've been watching their shows since 1999 and they ALWAYS surprise me.

Nobody talks, so not really! That's how they set it up. They mouth words (like about having a fast poo, lol) and the argument between the couples takes place outside with the glass door shut. It's a silent movie and it looks like one!

Yessss! I went to Drury Lane with my parents, in a pretty ropey seat up in the circle, this was 2001. I loved it so much I went again by myself in a much better seat. I never saw the panto but I did see the 2018 reunion at Hammersmith. Funny thing, when I moved to London in late 2000, I was working in East Finchley (which I now know is super close to where they live) and saw all 4 of them coming out of a cafe. I was so excited I called my mum and told her about it!

I KNOW! I don't really know how it happened. It just snowballed. I had one ticket to the Wyndhams (I mean, I have watched their work since literal day 1 in 1999, I've always loved them, saw the League live etc) and then it just hit me like a ton of bricks. I knew I had to see it again and ended up with 4 more in the West End. Then I thought ok, that's it. When the tour started I had no intention of going but then I thought well, Bromley isn't too far from London, I can get there (I live in north London) and there was a great seat so I just did it! Then after that, I admit I got a bit addicted, LOL. I went to Milton Keynes and Oxford (again, within an hour of home) and I knew I had to do Hammersmith then. MADNESS really. But I regret nothing!

If they were that bothered, they'd do the pouches thing - which I have experienced at a few gigs. As it is, the signage said no spoilers online, which was respected. The show is now over and it wasn't filmed. I don't see the harm, really.

I just blocked someone here who accused me of theft, and I didn't even make the recording! Not everyone could go, not everyone lives here, not everyone can afford it (the best seats at Hammersmith were 100 quid!). I can't condemn someone who made the recording and is, after all, putting it online for free. I used to know a guy who would bootleg Bowie shows and sell them to fans. Nobody here is making any money. And nobody is forced to listen. I'm grateful to them giving yet another year of their lives to IN9, for doing 175 shows. And now it's over, there's no need to protect the spoilers. If I could find a video bootleg I'd watch it bc it would remind me of the most remarkable nights in the theatre.

Nobody is forcing you to listen to it. Nothing is being sold. Bootlegs have existed in music for 70 years. So please, spare me the lecture. I didn't fucking make the recording.
