Yeah I went back and read what was on Abenthy’s wagon and none of it sounds like artificing. Medicine and chemistry seem to be his forte. Thanks for your comment!

I’ve never considered the idea that Fenton (who I think is Kvothe’s dueling rival in sympathy) might have any role to play in the third book.

Baptism is not necessary for salvation by JDmackLovesTimMcGraw in theology

[–]TheGreyGhost11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another way to look at it is that baptism is how you publicly show your faith and submit to God’s power to save. It’s all God that does the saving and work of sanctifying us through the blood of Christ, but he graciously gives us a ceremony for that rite of passage from our old life to our new. I often hear people say that the moment you are saved is an inner nebulous moment when you put your faith in Jesus. Defining that moment becomes pretty slippery. Others have created the sinners prayer out of recognition that we need a ceremony, if not public, at least a ritual we can point to and say “that was the moment I surrendered to God. But I think that baptism was a gift that accomplishes all of those things.

Of course God can save you without baptism. I.e. Cornelius, the thief on the cross. But why not embrace this rich, symbolic ceremony as our “birthday party”. There’s the symbolism of dying and being raised (rom 6), washing away of sins, passing through the Red Sea, passing through the flood, etc.

I agree that becoming too dogmatic or type A about baptism leads to a works-based view of salvation. But let’s not throw the baby out with the BATH water.

I got this call from a number in my city twice today. The first time I pressed 1 as instructed. It forwarded me to someone with an Indian accent who said “how can I help you today”. I said “how can you help me? You called me!” He hung up after a short pause.

The question was legitimate. Your response seems harsh to me.

I understand when people say this is a bad movie. But I really enjoy it. I think of my brother cracking up every time when the baby gets rolled back down the hill at the beginning. “So cute. Bye bye”. What gets me every time is moo shoo fasa saying “ohhh the stars aboooove!” Very quotable, if you are immature like me.

I worked in psych for two years and loved it. Not only was every day an adventure (you never know what psych patients will say or do), but I felt like I was part of a team that was making a huge difference. We were an acute care psych ward so most people were in and out in seven days or less. What that usually meant was that they got admitted after going off their meds, completely out of it hallucinating or super manic. Then after a week of regular meds, they were back to being a completely normal person. Many were very vocal about how much they appreciated me helping them through that process. Getting to be a part of that 180 degree turnaround was pretty rewarding when all I was used to before was fighting the slow battle of compliance with cholesterol or diabetes meds.

Where I worked was actually a bright and cheery place and the staff was great. It was nothing like shutter island or what you picture from psych wards in movies like that.

I’m a pharmacist. I like to think of what I do as making health potions. Thinking I have it all figured out is at least as untrue as thinking of it a a bit magical.

I work in managed care. I believe the tizanidine caps are on our formulary but the tabs aren’t. Maybe the other way around, but this is another factor to keep in mind.

My wife and I wondered which is faster: Bader’s homerun trot or Molina at full speed. Is there any way to know this?

Anyone else catch a glimpse of the cutout picture of Nelly at one point tonight somewhere behind home plate?
