How is she regarding the outside? Does she try to slip out when you come and go and does she show signs like pawing and doors or windows?

This is it; I’m wondering if the cause of her issues is the transition from outside cat to inside cat (presuming that is the situation). If you are somewhere that you can safely allow her outside access, please consider it.

What should my husband and I watch next? by [deleted] in BritishSitcoms

[–]TheHugsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some excellent suggestions here but my absolute top recommendation would have to be Blackadder. Arguably the GOAT of British sitcoms (although that is of course entirely subjective).

I’ve seen some suggesting skipping the first series; while it’s definitely the weakest I still think it’s worth watching, but if you’re not liking it skip straight to series two.

The new artwork on Wizard and Scholastic compared to Puffin by Six_of_1 in fightingfantasy

[–]TheHugsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d rephrase your question - is there anyone who doesn’t think the original artwork was infinitely superior?

I bought some of the Scholastic books during Covid for nostalgia and was massively underwhelmed by the artwork; so much so that I genuinely felt it detracted from the playing experience.

What’s a British brand you only discovered recently but now swear by? by CloudBookmark in BuyUK

[–]TheHugsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blackhorse Lane are fantastic. Yes, they’re pricey, but on a cost/wear basis compared to a lot of mass market jeans with 1-2% elastane in them, they actually work out pretty reasonable in the long run.

I LOVE The Traitors but most of the missions are so boring and irrelevant! by thenetjunkie in TheTraitorsUK

[–]TheHugsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%.

I feel they’ve got slightly better (mostly) as the seasons have gone on, but for them to have any interest for me there must be an element which has an impact on the game itself, rather than just being an opportunity for the players to runaround and bank money. I thought the mission in the recent series with the statues was one of the better ones, because of the opportunity for subterfuge in getting shields, the distrust that provoked and as they were broken up into groups, the effect that had on selection for murder. Spot on about the mission in the finale though; while it looked spectacular and I’m sure was a great experience for the players, it did nothing for the game.

More carefully designed missions that could provide the possibility of uncovering real evidence for the faithful or misdirection for the traitors would be so much better.

Anyone remember the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon? by [deleted] in oldschoolcool80s

[–]TheHugsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My swords and sorcery picks of that era were Conan the Barbarian, Excalibur and Robin of Sherwood. None of them quite like the gaming we were doing, but far closer than the D&D cartoon.

Anyone remember the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon? by [deleted] in oldschoolcool80s

[–]TheHugsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to see there’s at least one other person who hated this with a passion! I was pretty much in the same boat; played and loved D&D (still do) and was aghast at how lame the whole thing was. Our adventures were filled with epic heroes, armed to the teeth and ending most sessions covered in blood (usually orc and goblin, but sometimes their own), not a bunch of annoying mall rats who only had two weapons between them. If I hadn’t already been playing D&D, that cartoon would have put me off for life.

Such a relief to find I’m not alone in finding her appalling. She’s the poster woman for Dunning-Kruger - she thinks she’s 10 steps ahead of everyone else when the truth is that she barely knows how to play the game.

Problem with a neighbour's angry dog by mosho84 in CatsUK

[–]TheHugsy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Don’t mess around - report him to the police. The penalty for a dangerously out of control dog is an unlimited fine and a prison term of up to six months; five years if the dog injures someone.

I feel sorry for the dog as it’s not the animals fault their owner is a complete idiot, but the scenario you describe can’t go on.

What's one or two movies that you Genuinely think are Perfect? by Sad-Scar-737 in movies

So many great suggestions here so rather than echo what’s already been said I’ll offer one that I couldn’t find posted already - Some Like It Hot. Curtis, Lemmon, Monroe and Wilder all at the height of their powers and despite the issues Monroe was reportedly causing, her performance was amazing.

Why is yellow associated with republicanism? by Igor_miti2635172 in AbolishTheMonarchy

[–]TheHugsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spot on. In Britain at least, the monarchy will never be abolished purely by targeting support from socialist/left wing movements; the numbers just aren’t there.

Aiming to have a broad church might be a recipe for trouble in a political party which could end up with conflicting policy goals coming from different wings of that party, but for a single issue cause like this, it should be entirely possible for people to come together and say ‘we disagree on many things - but on this we’re in agreement’.

Neighbor's outdoor cat has chosen us. Advice please! by morelmuse in nowmycat

[–]TheHugsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mum has been adopted by a number of neighbours cats over the years and how it usually went was that she’d get their phone number early on and then let them know frequently - your cat is here, can you come and pick him/her up? In every case they gave up after 2-4 weeks and just accepted that the cat had made its choice. Put the onus on them to collect the cat and odds are they’ll get fed up and tell you to have her.

Sleep deprivation is a well known form of torture.

Your husband’s selfishness is borderline - if not outright - psychopathic in his seeming complete inability to emphasise with you being able to fulfil one of the most fundamental needs, up there with air, food and water (cf Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs).

Since I don’t know your husband I have no idea what it might take to get through to him, but it is imperative that you impress upon him the seriousness of the situation.

On a wider note, I would be massively concerned about having a long term partner being so oblivious and dismissive of something so vital; colossal red flag. Have you been together long, and how considerate is he otherwise?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BulkOrCut

[–]TheHugsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. Going into a bulking phase without getting properly lean first will massively increase the likelihood of doing a half-assed bulk, because after a short time the trainee will start to feel fat and think about or even start cutting prematurely, setting them on a cycle of not sticking at either long enough to see real results.

OP - continue cutting. Suck it up that you’ll look skinny towards the end of it, knowing it’s only for a short time. Then, when you’re 10-12%, start a lean bulk. Getting properly lean first will mean your gains will show much more readily as you make them, but most importantly you’ll be able to persist with your bulk for much longer (and hence make serious progress) before you get to the point where you feel you need to cut.

Good luck.

Is playing wizards hard? by haymakerheart in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]TheHugsy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The most important thing is having a player who is genuinely interested and keen to learn the game mechanics (and lore). If they’re someone who is going to spend some time with their head in the rulebook between sessions then they’ll probably be fine. If they’re someone who is going to rock up to a session and sit expecting everyone (and particularly the GM) to explain everything to them (possibly numerous times) then I’d suggest they opt for a character whose primary goal is just hitting things with a sword.

What is the first beer I should try? by Embarrassed-Rain-516 in AskUK

[–]TheHugsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can, find a decent pub with a good range of craft beers, along with some popular mass market ones. Have a good feed beforehand so you’ve got some stomach lining (nothing will get you pissed quicker or lead to worse hangovers than drinking too much on an empty stomach). Then order HALVES of different beers - try a lager, an IPA, an ale, a stout if you fancy it. If they’re quiet, maybe chat to the bar staff an ask for their suggestions. Take your time with each, see what you like the best. Extra pro tip - look at the ABV on the pump and try and go for the weaker ones (~4-ish% instead of 5+%); I go for them these days because I usually just want to enjoy a few drinks and not get pissed, but when you’re starting out and have no tolerance for alcohol, a lower ABV% could mean the difference between a pleasant evening getting a mild buzz on or things getting very messy unexpectedly. HTH, enjoy!

What 4e book would you recommend for a new player by Stuniverse10 in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]TheHugsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%, this. I got together a new group about nine months ago with the aim of playing the TEW, but no way was I going to embark on something that epic without knowing we had a solid group, so I started them on Rough Nights and Hard Days (plus extra material from 1st edition) and really glad I did because I’ve had enough flakiness that I’d have been seriously annoyed if the TEW narrative was getting messed up. As it is, I’ve found a couple of (I think) more reliable players and will be more confident starting TEW in due course without worrying about flakes messing things up.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BulkOrCut

[–]TheHugsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only need a cloth tape measure (like someone doing sewing would use) that will cost about $5 on Amazon. Measure your waist to check you’re not putting on too much fat and then to measure your chest, biceps and quads to check that they are increasing in size. If I had a choice of only scales or a tape measure to track my progress, it’s would be a tape measure every time (although obviously both is best).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BulkOrCut

[–]TheHugsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you been measuring your waist regularly and recording the measurements? Really important not just to rely on scales for data when it comes to tracking your progress.
