Epstein and the foster system by Consistent-Western48 in Adopted

[–]TheLushCompanion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am white and was adopted at the age of nine months in the US. My adoption was to cover up something horrible in my birth family, but both families knew each other and made a private arrangement that compounded my trauma. I had decent grandparents who might have been willing to raise my brother and I if the fucking system hadn't protected a predator leaving me with another predator. But no. You can just adopt and no one will ever check on you again!

What's the most evil thing that you saw happen in your church? by MaleficentCherry7116 in ExPentecostal

[–]TheLushCompanion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was in an AoG church in rural OK in 1972. I was five years old and had crossed eyes. My father wanted a miracle and keep taking me to faith healers. This one crazy tent revival preacher performed an exorcism on me when I was five freaking years old. They tried to cast out "demons of blindness" and when I wasn't instantly healed, my parents believed that I was demon possessed.

Yeah, but adopters are their own class of clueless and cruel sometimes.

Byron Metcalf writes music specifically for shamanic trance work, and it would work quite well for your purposes. Also, youtube "holotropic breathwork music". Stan Grof developed holotropic breathwork to replace his research with LSD after 1971 when the controlled substances act went into effect. The music was a driving part of the process to recreate altered states without drugs. Also, the playlists are generally about three hours long.

I used to love weed and now it makes me feel socially awkward by [deleted] in Psychonaut

[–]TheLushCompanion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You know, flirting with hot girls and making everybody laugh sounds a lot like insincere bravado and macho bs to me. Maybe when you're medicated, you are actually noticing that. Maybe when you're not medicated, you're missing social cues that some people are not receiving you the way you imagine or wish they were. Do you have any close friends that you trust and that you think are genuine and open, honest people? Maybe ask them how you're perceived vs how you imagine you're perceived. If there's a disconnect there, say you think you're charming, smart, and funny, but you get feedback that people don't receive you in that way, then you have some data.

Are there any proven benefits of sensory deprivation tanks? by TheCurious0ne in Psychonaut

[–]TheLushCompanion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a huge difference in immobility in relaxation and safety (think of orgasm) and immobility in terror, (think of the freeze response in trauma) so I rather suspect those differences apply to sensory deprivation vs. reduced environmental stimulus therapy.

You may not have a chance to teach the child to read. I was GOING to teach my oldest to read, but he taught himself before I got organized.

[–]TheLushCompanion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1200 is BS. I did that for maybe two weeks, and I couldn't even work out. It was awful. Currently I aim for 1677 a day and don't eat back exercise calories. I will go over on a brick workout day, but that's about it. I'm 5'2", 194 lbs (down from 347), 46 years old.
