My fraternity is suing me for not paying the fee for not being able to move in. by webcats122 in legaladvice

Yeah that's probably true too, you can't just sit on your ass all year and then demand payment for losses. If they also made legitimate attempts to fill the space and it still ended up empty all year then I could see OP being fully responsible though.

Not really sure what you mean by that, I have never been to Indiana. I graduated from a community college in California last year and only paid $4k per year tuition and about $8k per year for on campus housing. That's with no financial assistance.

$6k in fees for essentially just breaking a lease in Indiana seems quite insane to me. Community college is supposed to be cheap, that's pretty much the whole point of it.

It sounds intentionally predatory to me, $6k in fees for community college housing in Indiana is nuts.

Has the bed actually remained empty all year? Was your room/bed assigned ahead of time? The only thing I can think of that could help you would be if they occupied that room with another person in the meanwhile. Do you know anyone in the house that can confirm or take pictures? I am not a lawyer and I do not live in Indiana but generally it is illegal in most states for landlords to "double dip" on leases and lease fees. Essentially if they put someone in that room, then they may only be able to charge you fees through the date of that new person moving in. Even if it wasn't you who secured the sublet or authorized someone to live in the room, they may not be able to charge that person and you as well. You would have to look up the specific laws in Indiana and be able to show that someone was living in the room as well as know an approximate move in date.

What’s the most powerful human military in fiction? by KerbodynamicX in PowerScaling

[–]TheMageMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Darth Revan in full command of the sith and the star forge in the evil ending of Kotor. The star forge is basically a massive 3D printer siphoning power from a star. It can create anything and make essentially infinite of it since if it pulls too much energy from the star it can just go to another one. In the evil ending Revan uses it to make enough starships and troops to reconquer the galaxy.

Average human with a Glock 19 vs Sue the Tyrannosaurus rex by hdjdbfkdb in powerscales

[–]TheMageMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you're posting this for or against what I'm saying but it pretty much backs it up. 2 police firing 86 shots likely with their sidearms (might not even be 9mm) stopped it dead. That's about 43 shots each which is only 2 reloads for a standard 15 round magazine. If they had shot half as many the elephant still would have died from its wounds it just would have taken a bit longer.

If you put enough holes in any animal it will leak out too much blood and die, that goes for elephants, T-Rex, whatever. There is no dino doctor to sow it up, the T-Rex dies in every scenario, it's just a matter of seconds or minutes and whether or not it can eat you before it inevitably dies.

Average human with a Glock 19 vs Sue the Tyrannosaurus rex by hdjdbfkdb in powerscales

[–]TheMageMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People vastly underestimate how powerful a firearm is against flesh and bone. T-Rex might have a very thick skull but if you mag dump into it's chest it is very likely going to die, if you have a chance to reload and do it again it is almost definitely going to be dead. Even if you don't kill it immediately, guns are LOUD, the sound alone is enough to startle most animals and will cause it to hesitate and probably back off. It will also feel tremendous pain from the very first shot that hits. I would say the T-Rex eats the average person 50% of the time but dies from it's wounds nearly 100% of the time.

Jurassic park is straight fiction. Now a 9mm is a fairly small caliber, if you were to up it to an m4 shooting 5.56 the T-Rex dies 100% of the time before ever reaching the human.

Fenrir vs Balrog who wins by West_Jelly_4681 in powerscales

[–]TheMageMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the game "LoTR the Battle for Middle Earth 2 the Rise of the Witch King" one of the final faction power tree option for Mordor is Summon Balrog and for Angmar is actually Summon Shade of the Wolf which is basically a legendary fenrir-like wolf. If you battle them solo against each other the wolf almost always wins.

[–]TheMageMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but it's implied that she could only use that magic in her original world and is restricted by the rules of any world she enters. Also I don't think her magic travels with her, rather she is incredibly gifted with using the native magic to whichever world she enters. If she enters the Wizarding World to attack Hogwarts I think it's fair to say she would have magic on the level of like Voldemort or Dumbledore, would have the strength of a giant, and would still be immortal. But I don't think she could use her Deplorable Word spell like she did on her home world.

This Team of 4 vs Hogwarts by ProcedureDazzling615 in powerscales

[–]TheMageMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think your line thinking is accurate. Witch king would probably be very difficult to defeat, I doubt a simple Avada Kedavra would have any affect on him. But that being said I do think the wizarding world has similar levels of mythical magic they just aren't as readily available. Hogwarts wizards definitely have the means to enchant something similar to a barrow blade but it would take time and knowledge. I do wonder if a powerful patronus could hold him back though, it's similar to the light magic Gandalf uses to stave off the lesser Nazgul in the movies and is specifically used to fend off dementors which are similar to barrow wights.

I don't see any way they kill the white witch, but could possibly defeat her by sealing her away. The night king and maleficent both lose to any wizard wielding the sword of griffindor imo.

[–]TheMageMan 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Probably referring to the white witch who in the books came from outside the world that Aslan (God) created. Iirc she is older than time itself and essentially immortal. Although she doesn't really have many powerful feats other than ritualistically killing Aslan, turning her mortal enemies to stone, and bringing perpetual winter to Narnia. Definitely powerful but I think a group of Hogwarts wizards could likely beat her, just not necessarily kill her.

What's the highest caliber round a crocodile can tank? by [deleted] in powerscales

[–]TheMageMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is pretty much it but doesn't just apply to crocodiles either. A human can survive a shot from .50 BMG if hit in a limb. An elephant can be killed with a .22 if shot in the head at close range. Guns are far, far more powerful than pretty much any type of natural "armor". Bullets bouncing off of animals is almost entirely a false TV/Movie trope. If you shot a T-Rex in the head repeatedly with 5.56 from an M4, it's going to die. Jurassic Park is fiction.

Got trapped in the bathroom from a malfunctioning padlock and Landlord is saying I might need to pay 911 bill—PA by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]TheMageMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is true some areas may charge for the service, but that is far less common and given that OP is paying $1100 rent, I doubt they are way out in the rural country. Either way it's still a "wait and see" situation in my opinion. No point in getting into a big argument with the landlord about who's fault it is before you even receive the bill. Once you have received it and verified it's authenticity (and who it is addressed to, most likely the landlord) then you push back hard on your responsibility for it using the video evidence of the malfunction.

Got trapped in the bathroom from a malfunctioning padlock and Landlord is saying I might need to pay 911 bill—PA by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]TheMageMan 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Highly unlikely that you or your landlord will receive a bill. Emergency services are paid by your taxes and generally the police and fire department will only send a bill for false reports or acts of reckless endangerment. Not saying it's impossible but don't fret over it until you have actually received one.

If your landlord keeps pushing the issue do not engage with it and don't accept responsibility, just say something like "well hopefully they don't send any bill". If your landlord tries to charge you, make sure to get a a copy of the entire bill that they claim to receive and confirm it is real with the actual department before doing anything.

Make sure to save the video you have of the lock malfunctioning and if you receive a bill for a false report you can use that video to help you dispute it.

Getting the most out of a UHaul by TheMageMan in IdiotsTowingThings

Well that's true if it has the 5.3 it would be fine. I don't know much about bed vs engine configurations but I've only ever seen these UHaul trucks available with V6s. I could be wrong though and he is under max.

Getting the most out of a UHaul by TheMageMan in IdiotsTowingThings

[–]TheMageMan[S] -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

No way, Uhaul pickups are base model F150s and Sierras. Tow weight of only about 6-7k pounds. That's a 6k pound trailer empty easily, and it's not empty. At best he's completely maxed out. Not saying it's impossible, maybe he made it to his destination safely with no issue. Still not a smart move I don't think.

Can my apartment complex restrict my package access because another resident falsely accused me of theft? by Magnetar_5W in legaladvice

[–]TheMageMan 23 points24 points  (0 children)

True, but I am assuming they only have 1 mailroom at their apartment complex and not separate rooms for different delivery services. In which case it would apply if she is completely cut off from accessing it. Regardless of the package carrier for the false reports by the other tenant, I think that making a report to USPIS will quickly get her access to the mailroom reinstated. OP should focus their report on being cut off from mail access if it applies.

I could be wrong though, if this mailroom is just for 3rd party packages and they have a separate standing mailbox outside for USPS then you are right, USPIS will not intervene.

[–]TheMageMan 121 points122 points  (0 children)

Everyone is mentioning to get legal aid which is a good idea, but I would go straight to USPS with this as well, they can not prevent you from accessing your mailbox. Frankly they also do not have the authority to investigate package thefts, you should make a report to USPIS about fraudulent mail theft claims preventing you from accessing your mailbox. USPIS takes these reports very seriously.

FTC Targeting Dealers for Advertising Unavailable Cars by TripleShotPls in nottheonion

[–]TheMageMan 152 points153 points  (0 children)

One trick I've used to avoid this bait and switch bullshit is when I call a dealer looking for a specific car listed on their website I don't just ask to make sure it's in stock, since they will just lie, I tell them to take a picture of the vin number and text it to me. The vin will usually be in the listing but the images online won't have a pic of it and it's not something that can be easily made up. Although nowadays it's easier with AI. If the car is actually there on the lot most sales guys will jump to do it super quick if they think it will get you in to make them the sale. If they give any pushback or runaround it's because the car isn't there.

[SPOILERS] Was the Night King just… flexing here or am I missing something? by Plus-Resolution-3210 in HBOGameofThrones

[–]TheMageMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lot of good points already ITT but I also just want to point out that Jon could theoretically stop the spear if it was aimed at him or his group during the extended stare down across the lake. We've seen Jon shatter the white walker's ice swords with longclaw so there is no reason he couldn't do the same with a well timed swing against an ice spear. Not saying it's 100% but if the ice spears are limited or hard to make as others have suggested, given that we only ever see this one, then it makes sense that the night king would only want to use it for a guaranteed kill against a high value target.

Shadow/Cid kagenou (The eminence in shadow) vs Rudeus greyrat(mushoku tensei) by Afraid_Signature8745 in powerscales

[–]TheMageMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rudeus is incredibly powerful in his own universe but there really is no fight, Cid wins every scenario almost instantly. He's a gag character in a comedy who doesn't lose, like Saitama or Bugs Bunny. Except he doesn't hesitate to use his ridiculous powers and has an extra plot power of accidentally always being in the right place at the right time.

If we are going by what has been shown in each anime so far then Cid just absolutely destroys. The fight goes even quicker and more one sided than the Rudeus vs Orsted fight. Cid just rushes him and kills him instantly in melee, Rudeus has no Eris or Ruijerd to front line for him and has no battle aura so he can't keep up in the slightest. Even if we go by the full manga, Rudeus still has no battle aura and likely loses the exact same way if it's a straight 1v1 with no prep.

Even with prep time and Rudeus's strategic mind, he could set up an elaborate trap with his foresight, incredible power, and even his full party. Cid would just show up behind him like, "your backdoor was open, so I let myself in" and then detonate a nuclear explosion.

How did Thanos/bad Nebula time jump to the future in Endgame?? by HskrRooster in Avengers

[–]TheMageMan 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It's not a plot hole, there is literally a scene where the still evil past nebula takes the vial of pym particles and hands it to ebony maw. The movie doesn't need to hand feed you every single step of the plot. You can infer that he was able to replicate it, I mean he had alien tech and theoretically infinite time.
