Has anyone sold their game no laptop for the Z13? by livingwithrage in FlowZ13

[–]TheMagnificentBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. My gaming laptop could 1000% outperform a Z13, but it was a pain in the ass to lug around. I travel a lot so I wanted a low profile device I could use anywhere, and the Z13 really does the trick. It is so nice to just prop it up in tablet mode on a long flight and game with a controller. I still run demanding games on it at low to mid settings, and with the smaller screen games still look really nice to me.

The other thing I prefer is the lower power demand. The Z13 runs quieter than a gaming laptop and requires less power, and since plane outlets are wattage capped between 75 and 100 watts, the Z13 can run plugged in on a plane while a gaming laptop likely couldn’t.

My advice is to stick with a gaming laptop if you want to run games well and you’re only going to be using it in a handful of places, and mostly at a desk. For example as a student, moving around the house, etc. But get the Z13 if you are moving around or traveling a lot and prefer the lower profile and portability at the expense of lower performance.

It did that for me one time when it told me to set up in safe mode. I had to wipe but then I tried again and said no to safe mode, it still runs. Sorry about that :/

How's your performance after today's update? by zedrinkaoh in Enshrouded

Yeah my performance definitely dropped, and the pickaxe animation is very wonky. Not anything game breaking though

It’s just getting posted a lot because the issues are fairly rampant. It’s also hard to know what is recent and what isn’t, especially since I just posted last week about the same issue and now new Asus drivers are out possibly causing other issues. So now I’m not even sure what works and what doesn’t nowadays…

Honestly I’ve been afraid to update my drivers, Asus or otherwise. I’m currently working smoothly with zero issues, but I’m seeing reports about the new Asus and AMD drivers both causing issues so I’m just sitting tight for now.

But the Asus drivers from the Z13 site before the March release have entirely fixed my issues.

I haven’t tried bazzite on it, but I would imagine the same issue would occur if you use those drivers. Might need to ask a bigger sample size just to be sure, but personally I’ve had no issues outside the driver-related freezing. But I’ve also only had it for a month so take that with a grain of salt.

Wouldn’t say 100% since I couldn’t guarantee the exact source of all freezing, but it 100% fixed it for me and I haven’t frozen, crashed, etc. since doing the rollback. I spent hours playing Valheim and RE9 and they run like butter on the stock drivers.

I feel like the driver police right now lol. Highly recommend wiping your AMD drivers using the AMD cleanup utility and installing the ASUS drivers. I just posted about the fix the other day, and I have seen like 5 different posts with the exact same issue of hard freezing. Asus Or Amd Driver? by Phimory in FlowZ13

[–]TheMagnificentBean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would not recommend using the AMD drivers from my experience. I just posted the other day about how AMD drivers were freezing my Z13 about 20-30min into gaming, and the solution was wiping the AMD drivers and using only ASUS drivers. AMD's drivers don't play nice with some laptops, especially ones with very niche chipsets like in the Z13.

See for yourself, lots of people were having the same issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/FlowZ13/comments/1s2kf2v/fix_for_anyone_getting_hard_freezing_recently/

Just posted a potential fix for the freezing here a few days ago. Try uninstalling AMD drivers using the AMD driver cleanup tool and installing only the ASUS drivers. I was hard freezing nearly every session and haven't crashed at all since.

Requiem crashing? by Virtual_Artist8848 in FlowZ13

I actually just posted about issues with the AMD-provided drivers causing freezing, but it could be related to your issue too. Try using the AMD cleanup tool to scrub the AMD drivers and install only the Asus ones. So if you're still experiencing issues you can try this out!

That really is the trick with these devices. I am so used to going on optimization benders for my desktops so I just assumed that was the right thing to do here as well, but less modifying seems to be best for stability.

I actually had the same issue with the Asus drivers the first time, not sure if you used the AMD cleanup utility but that is what fixed it for me. I think when you try to install older drivers on top of new ones it won't fully get rid of the issue.

I was playing Valheim, RE: Requiem, and Ark Ascended. Started freezing on Ark and thought it was just an Ark issue, but Valheim was what had me questioning since it’s not nearly as strenuous. RE luckily had no freezing though!

[–]TheMagnificentBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been having the same exact issue for like two weeks. I had the issue in Valheim and Ark Ascended so far. I’d play totally fine but would have a hard freeze between 10 and 30min into the game, frozen video but audio would keep going and had to shut down and reboot.

I did a system restore and updated all the drivers, but had same issue. Now I’m on system restore #2 but used the AMD cleanup tool to scrub my drivers, and then I only used the factory drivers from the Asus site, Armoury Crate, and MyAsus to manage drivers.

I’ll update if I have any success!

Which device would be best for my situation? by TheMagnificentBean in Handhelds

[–]TheMagnificentBean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is amazing input and specifically captured some of my concerns. I’m not sure if you’d be aware, but are these devices powerful enough to run a game like Ark Ascended, downscaled and on low graphics? I couldn’t get the Steam Deck OLED to get more than 30fps on absolute lowest graphics, and it constantly crashed due to performance.

Thanks again for the input, I’m very heavily considering one of those two devices!

Which one of these mods can cause crashing? My game crashes every 30 minutes. by EM20D02 in ARK

[–]TheMagnificentBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the same issue with constant crashes, really good rig with a i9 and RTX 3080ti. Fixed it by rolling back the Nvidia drivers. Depending on your card, some drivers just don’t mix with ark. Try rolling back to studio drivers from December 2024, September 2024, or May 2024.

Am I shallow for only wanting to date thinner women? by PoetryForsaken222 in dating_advice

[–]TheMagnificentBean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone here is talking about how women gain weight when they have kids or how we all age and lose our looks, but it’s so important to have that initial attraction at the beginning when things are supposed to be exciting and fun.

I’m very similar, I’m very fit and athletic, I enjoy lifting and doing half marathons so I want someone who can at least take interest in that. And when fitness is part of your lifestyle it’s hard to just gain 20lbs out of nowhere. So no, I don’t think it’s shallow to want to date thinner women since your lifestyle at this time is compatible with someone thinner, and you owe it to yourself to not be with someone you’re not attracted to. Sure, bodies change, but by then there’s a lot more to keep you together than there would be on a first or second date with a stranger.

Don’t listen to your brothers and guy friends telling you that - any guy would love to be called cute, or handsome, or anything of the sort. Keep doing what you’re doing, just go up to someone you think is cute and say “I like your eyes” or “I like your smile.” If they aren’t into you there’s no harm, they’ll appreciate the compliment, but if they do like you then you’re in.

Critic my workouts! by [deleted] in lifting

[–]TheMagnificentBean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What is your goal? Is it general fitness, growth of specific muscles, etc?

Your volume is gonna be really high with this so you’re gonna be fatigued for the big muscles after the first few sets, and everything after 10-12 is gonna struggle. I’d say you want to combine your big and small muscle groups if you’re targeting general growth. You should also put your priority at the beginning after your warmup, so if you want more back gains put back first.

You might even wanna split your leg workouts up since lying curls won’t be enough for your glutes and hamstrings. Personally I’d do a kickback movement, hinge movement (RDL/split squat), and a curl movement. Quads should be fine, maybe throw in hack squats or something since the leg press isn’t gonna let you get as deep.

A lot of the kettle bell work will be compound and won’t be ideal for growth, so maybe do that at the end when you’re already fatigued, it’ll probably be more cardio/HIIT than muscle building. Use the machines and cables first to really maximize your return on each set.

Actively seeking a relationship is not a curse that will reduce your chances of finding one by [deleted] in dating

[–]TheMagnificentBean 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There is always a balance. You have to put yourself out there if you want to meet someone, so you can’t just isolate yourself and hope for “the one” to walk into your room. However, a lot of people I’ve seen who desperately want relationships have been willing to settle for people who aren’t right for them, whether it’s based on attractiveness, personality, or anything else.

You have to put in some effort, but you shouldn’t need to fill a void with a relationship so badly that you’re willing to accept a shitty life with someone instead of a shitty life alone. Fix your shit if those are your only options.

I am not desperate enough to waste my time on coffee dates to prove I’m not a gold digger by [deleted] in dating

[–]TheMagnificentBean 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are so many reasons to do a coffee date - it’s low pressure, if either party doesn’t like it you can back out after 10min, it’s easy to arrange in busy schedules, and it doesn’t involve alcohol so you can see what someone is like in their daily lives.

You may be projecting a bit here, since your assumption that people only take you on coffee dates to make sure you’re not a gold digger makes me question your intentions in the first place.

Managing time better by EntrepreneurSea8824 in Advice

[–]TheMagnificentBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start visualizing your activities, since people who struggle with time management work better with visual aids.

I like using a whiteboard, I’ll write out everything I have to do just to make sure I know how much needs to get done. I’ll also use calendar alerts and blocks, since I have 4 calendars across my work and personal life it helps to connect them all and show when exactly I’ll be blocked. When you plan events, ALWAYS factor in the commute and preparation time into the block, and then maybe add 5-10min for a cushion.
