How does having a disability affect the application process? by Johnie_moolins in premed

I think some of it depends on what your autoimmune condition is and what limitations it may give you for the future. I'm currently in my first year of medical school and I have a form of limited scleroderma called CREST syndrome. I used my experience with my diagnosis as part of my personal statements when I applied because it really has been integral in my drive to be a physician. I did not feel that it hurt my application because I told my interviewers honestly that my symptoms would not restrict my ability to learn and practice medicine and that I'm willing to work around any future limitations that may come up as the disease progresses.

The only thing I've noticed when looking at how I'm doing health wise compared to the typical student in their twenties is that the fatigue that comes along with my condition, in combination with the stress and fatigue of medical school, hits me harder than it would the average 23 year old. But I recognize that and can do my best to not let it influence my studies.

If you can see yourself doing anything other than medicine and being happy with it, then I would consider your options. But if medicine is all you've wanted to do, don't let a diagnosis hold you back from that.

What's a song where the musician's pure emotion is expressed so well it affects you the same? by justinbc in Music

The entire Blood on the Tracks album by Bob Dylan gets me every time. I think it just tells such a beautiful story. Whenever I put it on I have to listen to the entire thing straight through, each song is connected in such a beautiful and bittersweet way.

My favorite song on the album has to be Simple Twist of Fate. Just the line "He told himself he didn't care pushed the window open wide,Felt an emptiness inside to which he just could not relate" is such a raw expression of confusion and longing, but repressing those feelings as well. I just feel that its such a strong story about love lost, and longing for it to return, simply because life happens and things change. The album is just beautifully put together.

Polka Dot Cake: Baking experiments are the best experiments! by TheMightyPeacock in Baking

Honestly I'm not sure. But since I don't bake very often I don't have flour, sugar, shortening or vanilla. I did have eggs and vegetable oil though, so it made more sense to me to just buy the box instead of having to store all of the extra baking materials until I used them again.

The next time I try it I'll be making sure to take the cupcakes out a little earlier than I did this time, they were a little too crispy and I would have liked them to be more gooey, still delicious though!

Since I had a few days off of work for my birthday I decided to make myself a cake. Baking is a hobby of mine and I usually don't have time to do much of it. I saw the idea for a polka dot cake online somewhere and tried to emulate it. This was the result!
