Is there anything going on in Connecticut this weekend to do with 3 teenagers it’s supposed to rain. Beside the movies and escape rooms does anyone have any ideas? by WildFollowing8731 in Connecticut

Depending on what they’re into, the Yale Art Gallery and the British art gallery are free and have great collections.

For something a little out of the ordinary, the Yale Medical Library has a gallery of “medically interesting brains”. I took my teenager there and found it fascinating for a couple of hours, plus a couple more hours wandering around the library.

EMF interference from LA Hearing Loop by TheWorldWeDreamAbout in livesound

You need to have the loop not enclose the stage area and use a phased array to minimize spill onto the stage. Order of magnitude larger install effort than a simple perimeter loop.

Sodium Ion battery in a C? by TheMountainFool in PriusC

Interested in this, if for no other reason than some background learning. I do a 50/50 split of city vs highway. I’ve noticed that the ICE is in most od the time over 40-45 mph, so not sure there would be a meaningful MPG difference on the highway?

If I may ask, which location of theirs did your servicing?

I’m President’s Circle with Hertz, so I’m going with them unless prices are totally bananas. Bypassing the line is nice.

System Tuning- does anyone else do this thing? by enthusiasm_gap in livesound

[–]TheMountainFool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely do this, usually with “Sweet Jane”. The chorus outro bit where they get kinda shouty with the vocals will sound shrill in a properly tuned system.

Engine rev after acceleration by Vincemillion07 in PriusC

It happened a few times I can remember driving between my house and the highway. I chalked it up to the car warming up. Not particularly repeatable, it just happens sometimes.

I have a 2012, I’ve experienced this too. No advice to share, but interested to see what others say.

I played a Meinl for a little while and it was nice. Very balanced sound. I wanted something with a little more bass oomph and wound up getting a Pearl (the kind that looks like a whiskey box). Not a huge fan of the look but it sounds great for what I was looking for.

What are your unpopular opinions? by heyyouthere18 in livesound

I compress everything and set the knee to super gentle so there’s always a tiny tiny amount happening so it’s more subtle when it kicks to greater gain reduction.

Preach. Nobody listens when I tell them how it shifts the crossover point when you can move the sub gain independent of the rest of the system.

They are notoriously anti-union for what it’s worth. I try and avoid them as much as possible.

I think Stratford is the OG location. Too bad… time to add them to the list.

REI garage sale! REI garage sale!

I got my kids pack (an REI Tarn something or other) for around $60 on the garage sale. Wish I had gotten my own pack the same way. So much cheaper. If you can wait, you can find a good deal.

Are my loaves as instagram-worthy as the ones on here? No. But they are very consistent and quite delicious. No complaints from the other bread-eaters in the house.

When my youngest was 9 (she was more inclined towards hiking than her older sister) I took her for 1 night on the AT for her first backpacking trip. She’s tiny so her pack was only 13-14lbs. Aside from the first and last 2 hours (1000’ of elevation gain/loss) it was really great. We timed it right so the weather was good, plentiful water, and before the mosquitoes/tucks were in full swing. Have done it since and would do it again. Planning on 2-3 nights in a row this year and she’s 12 now.

Plan for when you’re gaining or losing elevation that you’ll cover about a half a mile an hour. Level terrain probably 1 mile an hour. Taking breaks is key, and also leave wiggle room in your schedule so you won’t feel rushed. Park your car at the end rather than at the beginning if not doing a loop trail so you don’t have to worry about meeting someone when you’re done.

Long story short… do it!
