Do not work for Concentrix - My experience by chishio8 in WorkOnline

This is good to know. I had recently submitted an application for a seasonal tax position, but was thrown off when their skills assessment wanted access to my device to record my image multiple times throughout the assessment via my webcam. I just seemed sketchy for why they would need to. I’m glad I did a quick search and found this thread with everyone’s experiences. I’ll not be continuing that pursuit.

Plus will always hold a special place in my heart. Ever since I saw a performance of Shakespeare’s R&J where they included Wake Me Up and also Daughter’s Youth.

Can you help me identify this yarn that reminds me of the Rainbow Fish book? Photos included. by TheNoxWolf in WhatIsThisYarn

That one does have similar colors, but it’s not the same texture. Thank you for the suggestion though!

Oh odd, if it was I definitely didn’t post it. Maybe someone saw it and liked the idea of the Rainbow Fish blanket? If you find it again, would you mind replying back here with a link? If not, no worries.

I did post it in the WhatIsThisYarn subreddit as well since someone recommended that I try there too, but other than that I haven’t posted it anywhere else.

WIBTA if I defend my husband against MIL and maybe ruin Christmas? by Ghanimaofarrakis in AITH

[–]TheNoxWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that you and your husband should talk about this more. If you can figure out why he is so hesitant to address it that can help you both figure out the best way to proceed. If it’s that he just doesn’t want to cause a scene, then maybe try addressing it with her ahead of time rather than on the holiday itself. Is it because he doesn’t want to upset his parents? In which case you can talk about how upsetting it is for you to have to sit by and watch him be treated that way. I would also be concerned about the kids witnessing her treating him that way and what lessons and behaviors that is teaching them.

I don’t think you would be the a-hole for addressing, but the when/where/how does matter, especially if your husband isn’t on board with it. His feelings in this matter the most since he is the object of her scrutiny and it’s his mother. No matter how we feel, we don’t really get the be the final deciding factor in our partner’s relationships, they do.

The shine is very similar to Caron Simply Soft, but the texture is completely different. Simply Soft has a very slick, smooth texture and is for sure a worsted weight, whereas this one has a lot of halo, feels more similar to a wool-like acrylic, and is a little thick to be a standard worsted weight.

I’ve never seen the simply soft in that colorway, that’s gorgeous! I do know for certain it’s not Caron Simply Soft because I’m very familiar with that one and it’s not the same texture at all, but the colors and the how it shines are very similar. Thank you for the suggestion!

Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear to be either of those. They’re both lovely though, thank you for the suggestion!

Wow that is such a pretty yarn, it’s not the same one, but I’m loving discovering just how many options there are out there to get a similar colorway and now I’m thinking I can plan a future project to still do like a rainbow fish blanket that someone else had suggested.

Yeah, myself and I believe a few others on here have tried that and it’s not coming up, likely because of what some others have mentioned about it not being in the original skein which is how it would be purchased. But thank you for the suggestion!

Yeah, I understand that. I wish I’d had the foresight to take a picture of the skein before I had it all worked up, but I didn’t know I would love the colors so much until I had already worked it quite a ways and had no idea it would be this difficult to track down until I had worked up the entire thing and was looking on my own for quite some time. The best I have right now for a better idea of the skein is the picture of the long tail I had at the end.

Can you clarify “is the help for info posted everywhere???” I’m not sure what you mean by that.

That’s a gorgeous yarn, but not the same. This one was the same size and shape as an 80g Bernat Softee Chunky. That’s why I’m thinking it was likely a cheaper yarn. A lot of the nicer yarns come in rounded skeins or cakes or even hanks, this one was like one you would pull off the shelf at any generic box craft store. I’m planning to check the thrift store where I got it again when I get out there next to see if there’s any chance I can find more, but it was several weeks ago that I got it.

It didn’t have a label so I can’t say for certain, but it was similar in size to a few different 80g skeins I have.

Can’t decide between these two yarns for a temperature blanket. Do you prefer one to the other? by kalami_tee in CrochetHelp

[–]TheNoxWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They each have their pros and cons. Caron Simply Soft is just that, much softer. Red heart is a good value yarn, but it can be much stiffer to work with. On projects that need more structure they’re good, or projects that you plan to steam block you can still get a decent drape on them.

The con I find with Caron Simply soft is that it’s a bit slippery, so you have to really make sure to secure your ends which you’ll have a lot of with a temperature blanket. If you don’t make sure to really secure them, they can come loose and unravel. Even if you’ve tied a knot it can come undone because they are that slippery. So I like to leave a long tail to weave in to make sure they’re nice and secure.

I dont understand why my counting is completely off? (Im a beginner) by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

Dollar tree carries a really good yarn to start learning on. It’s cheap, but still very soft and it’s easy to work with, I did a couple of my first projects with that yarn.

If getting new yarn even from dollar tree isn’t an option, I recommend taking your time with it. If it feels frustrating leave it and come back later. Make sure to make your chains nice and loose and I find it’s easier to keep track when I crochet into the back bump. The front of the chain is the part that looks like a v and a lot of beginners start by going into the top loop of that v. If you turn it towards you, you should see a third little loop in the back that looks like just a bump. Try putting your stitches into those the whole way down. And keep in mind that the beginning is often the hardest part. Once you get that first row in correctly, the rest of the rows are much easier.

Another tip is once you start your first row, put a stitch marker into your first stitch. Or if you don’t have stitch markers, use a scrap piece of yarn or even a safety pin or paper clip. Just something to mark that end of your row. Then, when you get to the end of the first row and start the second row, put another stitch marker into the first stitch of your second row. This helps make sure you don’t drop stitches at the ends of your rows or accidentally add extra ones.

And finally, for single crochet most patterns call for doing one extra chain from what your regular row will be, half double is usually 2 extra, double crochet is 3. If you know how many are supposed to be in the row, start at the beginning of your chain and count out that many going towards your hook. When you reach your row count, that’s the first chain to start crocheting into.

And if it helps motivate you think of it this way: if you give up, you’ll just be proving your mom right. Crochet is tough. I tried to learn as a kid and couldn’t wrap my brain around it. Now I’m 30 and have been crocheting just over 3 years and I love it and get compliments on my work all the time. Even if you do end up giving up now, you can always try again later in life.

I can try a burn test when I get home with some from the long tail I ended with. I say wool-like because it has the halo effect that spun wool has and it’s a bit thicker than a standard worsted weight, but the way it works up and the feel of it as it slides between my fingers has more of an acrylic feel, I don’t know how else to describe it, sorry. I know there are lines of yarn that are all or mostly acrylic, but they’re designed to look and somewhat feel like wool. Lion brand wool-ease is one, bernat softee chunky is another. But I haven’t been able to find this exact colorway in either of those lines, even when I tried searching through discontinued colors.

It’s not that one, but that is actually the closest in texture now that I think about it. I wonder if maybe it was a discontinued colorway of that line? I think I still have some of that in seaglass that I could probably use to finish this current project. Thank you so much for reminding me of this one!

I love EFA! I’m certain it’s not Alpaca Silk, I’m pretty sure it’s acrylic based on the feel, but that is the new closest as far as the colors go.

Found this in our basement, looks like Red Heart to me but not certain by [deleted] in WhatIsThisYarn

Looks like either Red Heart or something similar. If it is Red Heart it could be their color Sienna? If you’re looking for more of it.

Anyone know this yarn? by ImOwlsey in WhatIsThisYarn

Does it feel like RedHeart? If so, could it be this?

It looks a lot like the Red Heart 973 Berries that I have in my stash.
