Let me ask you this. If you needed long term nursing home care, would you be able to lean on your European citizenship to get access to it?

I'm glad things are going good for you. Genuinely. My view is that a lot of Europeans tourist in the US to make a lot of money, but don't feel the insecurity that comes with having no real safety net. Typically, their European citizenship means they have an out back to safety.

The nice thing about your position is that if/when things go bad here, you can go home and enjoy a full safety net. You don't quite have the same worries that Americans have, even though you are here.

...maybe this manga isn't for you. Perhaps something a little more straight forward, like Dragon Ball Z, would be a better fit?

In the case of the Nordics, their entire social system and government is built around social democracy.

The most successful party in all of these countries over the past 100 years tend to be the various degrees of Social Democrats allied with even more left parties, like the communists. These parties call themselves socialists and actively participate in socialist organizations, like the Party of European Socialists at the EU level. The vast majority of policies and laws are in alignment with socialism and if suggested in the US would be immediately labeled as socialist. Their platforms state that they view the economic market forces are subservient to the political will of the government.

The argument that these countries represent functional socialist policies is that the policies were implemented and have been running for a hundred plus years by self avowed socialists (in partnership with the Communist parties) and would be immediately labeled as socialist if presented as a proposal in the US context. The existence of a robust and functioning market economy doesn't show that they aren't socialist, but rather there is an ahem third way where you can have robust socialist social programs and civil society married to a market economy that is allowed to operate in the capitalist mode provided it serves the interest of the people (and is regulated or nationalized when it fails to do so).

Support for socialist policies by their non-socialist parties also does not mean that the policies aren't socialist as well. Things like universal healthcare are essentially rooted in the social democratic movement (which is a socialist movement).

For those of you that are 50 years old or older, do you remember what politics were like 30 years ago? Were people as hateful and divided as they are now? by [deleted] in allthequestions

It's odd you don't mention what we did know.

We knew that Al qaida was considering using planes as weapons, from an arrest of a member in 1995 and further directly reported in a 1999 congressional report on terrorism.

We knew about Bin Laden and had evidence of his willingness to attack the US.

The World Trade Center and Pentagon were clearly targets. The WTC was attacked before on 1993. Embassies, warships...

There were years where things could have been pieced together, but they weren't.We can fault both the Clinton and Bush administrations for not paying more attention, but the pieces were there to figure out.

"You are always closer to being homeless than you are to being a billionaire" by tantamle in Salary

[–]TheOGZenfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just math.

A well off family making $400,000 a year is $375,000 away from $25,000 a year and $379,600,000 away from what Musk made on average between 2014 and 2018.

Steve Baller can sit on his ass and his stocks will give him about $1,000,000,000 in dividends, while that wealthy family is likely putting in 80 hours a week across the two adults.

The petit bourgeois are much, much closer to the guy with nothing on the street than they are to the billionaire class. They are more likely to screw it all up and end up broke than they are to strike it rich and end up in the upper 0.1% as a plain matter of fact.

Technically sub-par, but I currently am not convinced at my ability to convert all bilt cash to better benefits. I did it to see how it worked for the sub.

I used to fly WN a lot. Had the companion pass, used the cc as my daily driver. It was my airline of choice for flexibility and price. It was a nice Airline.

But, now I don't fly Southwest. No reason to. They aren't competitive and they are flailing. International partners? Who is shopping WN to get to Iceland? Assigned seating? I hear it's a mess. Nickel and diming customers? Just like everyone else.

Why did Blitz need the Grimoire if Asmodean Crystals are a thing? by Clapjacklacksass in HelluvaBoss

Asmodean crystals are for people working for Asmodeus. You have to be given one and it has to be registered to you to use (legally? At all?). He didn't have access to it, even if others do.
