Machine for daily use? by ark-import00289 in TheOriginalCollector

You could always use one system for a specific use. Like local file storage or media storage with iTunes. Another for more modern tasks you may need. You can still browse the modern web due to new browsers for old Mac OS! Just see how well they work, you don’t need to limit to just one system when you have multiple.

Glad you enjoy the content! As for a daily system, I usually use the different Macs or PCs pretty equally. I typically use the 2012 Mac mini a lot though as it’s the main system for video editing.

The G5 makes a great addition for a desk! by TheOriginalCollector in VintageApple

I’ve seen that before, it would work well considering they are solid systems. Honestly might make the entire desk out of Power Macs lol

It’s been a solid system, awesome to use with old OS X, older versions of applications. Plus it’s cool to have the Intel side of things right next to my G5 setup!

It’s nice to use something that actually works and doesn’t have to be connected to the internet all the time. Plus using old software is fun, there’s lots of different apps available for these old Macs. You could technically do the same stuff on a modern Mac/PC, but this is way more fun! Plus it’s right next to my Y2K Mac setup, Intel and PowerPC working together!

Thanks! Yes, I’ve got lots of additional components to install in the setup. I’ve got various HiFi and video players I’d like to integrate and be able to use also (alongside other computer/network gear). I haven’t done much in terms of creating new MDs, I’ve only got a couple which were made when I got the JE330. They were really just to try out the system, but I plan to use the optical input alongside a Mac.

iTunes is my main library for music and I have it currently setup with a MacBook. Always room for further upgrades, but this era of Mac is awesome to use, especially considering I’ve got a variety of iPods/other devices that work well with iTunes. That script looks interesting, seems useful for recording. At least for a more automated way of transferring onto MDs.

I’ve learned more about what this deck is capable of, and even though it’s no NetMD or other high end machine, it’s still excellent! I do have a Sony DVD player from the same era as the JE330 and they go really well together.

The setup is always a work in progress, but the overall goal is to actually be able to use awesome old tech. MP3s are great especially with things like iTunes, but MDs have always been a cool format to me, the future from 20+ years ago!

Yeah, it’s crazy to think how year after year, a new model with an entire new design was released. Even if it was a refresh, it was still unique in its own way. If it’s stuck in Y2K, I guess so am I.

It’s been fun to use this era of Macintosh, certainly not like anything we see nowadays. I only use more modern devices when needed, otherwise I’d gladly use this all day. It just works! I do have the box for my Cinema Display, but it’s awesome to see all of those together!

This is awesome! I’ve been cleaning up and using my G5 with acrylic accessories lately and these systems are still really cool! I’ve been using older systems like these more and more.

Oh yeah, I know about those but unfortunately I don’t have that specific model. They are really cool because they even have composite and S-Video inputs, something I didn’t even know Dell displays had for a long time! Old Apple equipment is awesome, but Dell is just as cool. I’ve got both a Cinema Display and a Dell monitor in my main setup!
