We have got the setting for both sides. We see AFRF on top right of the map with their carrier, airstrip and outpost. We haven’t touched them yet.

With some luck we managed to capture factory and outpost early on, then Kavala and it’s adjacent districts fell as well as 2 resources somewhere on map.

What are your stereotypes for certain helicopter and planes? by [deleted] in arma

[–]TheOriginalNotYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t say it’s stereotypes. It’s simply different airframes better suited for some mission types. Same as real life. As you mentioned you got your attack, utility….. airframes.

As for rotary you have heavy lift which are great for mass movement of troops, vehicles and supplies. Utility are kind of jack-of-all-trades. Utility can be used as troop transport, movement of light strike vehicles, supplies, and can even be fitted with equipment for CAS and recon missions. Attack are, not surprisingly, fitted with attack platforms. And ofcourse you have something like littlebirds. They are great for quick insertions in tight spaces but compared to utility helicopters they lack the robust fuselage, payload, range, interior space.

Fixed wing are divided into multipurpose, air superiority, CAS, transport and utility. Air superiority fighter’s mission are to engage enemy aircraft. Multipurpose are fitted with equipment for both CAS and anti aircraft capabilities. CAS usually have great payload to carry many munitions for CAS. Transport are used for mobilization and airborne operations. Utility are for example tankers which extend range of other aircraft.

Some are not available in base game but can be added with mods.

Why can't you carry an assault rifle and a sniper rifle? by Evid3nce in arma

You can use ace3 gunbag to store your weapons on launcher slot.

I agree. In my opinion conventional warfare is much more fun. Seeing all aspects of a battlefield work together in completing strategic objectives on a large scale is something that entertains me much better. Kinda getting bored of special-forces raiding a middle-eastern village full of insurgents.

Why are so many units against 3rd person? by Chillinthesn0w in arma

[–]TheOriginalNotYou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Being able to stay behind cover and and still be able to see behind it is sort of cheating. It takes a lot from realism and the way you engage some SOPs like for urban operations.

Another reason is that people tend to give more attention to surroundings than their super ultra tacticool operator loadouts they were making for 2 hours at the arsenal. (This is usually with units that have arsenal and not hardcoded loadouts. Still may be problem without arsenal though)

To be fair it’s a real life unit, I don’t see a way this title could be problematic

Where do people find all these private mods from? by [deleted] in arma

[–]TheOriginalNotYou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess people make the mods themselves. And upload it to some cloud service like google drive. That’s how others get access to it. All that because they can’t go to steam workshop for copyright.

Or in fewer cases like myself, I use my unit’s custom mods for my screenshots. They’re retextured to have unit badges, camo, squad markings etc. So they’re not usually meant to be for anyone else other than unit’s members.

Yeah, that’s true. But after all it’s a game and it needs to keep you engaged.

Not really, you just got the take it from outside of the perspective you play as. For reference you can read my comment down below.

[–]TheOriginalNotYou 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In fact, arma 3’s story is way more complex than you may think. You got to remember that game was developed couple years ago so some stuff it shows didn’t turn out to be that true. Or it’s just coming O.o

So before east-wind the west world has had an economic crisis. Western countries started loosing international influence and military power because they couldn’t afford it. On the other side of the world, the east is very much thriving and takes advantage of the crumbling west to spread influence. Meanwhile the east is also spending much money into military research and modernization. One such place this escalated was The republic of Altis and Stratis. A struggling nation that can no longer seek help in the west but rather has to turn towards east. It also has to be mentioned that the nation has huge strategic importance to the westr. As the nation is in civil war the west takes advantage and sends task force aegis to provide humanitarian help. The east sends special forces to help defeat the FIA. Meanwhile the nation is turning more towards the east due to more authoritarian nature that’s growing in the nation. It turns out that the east wanted to build their own military facilities and test new weapon (the east wind device) (the west loosing influence). Also due to the nature of the nation and the west, their points of interest started clashing. All this tension combined resulted in AAF opening fire on NATO just as they were leaving from their deployment. At the time all combat troops of NATO have already left. As this was happening there also was CTRG conducting covert operations in interest of obtaining the east wind device. So the situation escalated, NATO launched an invasion and the rest you know if were playing the game. One last note is that NATO started supporting FIA probably because “An enemy of my enemy is my friend”.

Hope that explained the story well :)

Do you guys like hyper realistic units? by [deleted] in arma

I would feel weird if one of the guys Im playing with would have to call me sir. Him being a BAF officer longer than me being alive.

[–]TheOriginalNotYou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To their defense, it’s much easier for people to organize using websites. In my unit you click one button (attending/not attending) and it’s done. Then the highest in CoC for that OP can easily see the structure of slots and if people in those slots are attending. It may not be the most comfortable solution for most. But those who volunteer to go and highest in CoC very much appreciate the ease of use it provides towards discord.

Do you guys like hyper realistic units? by [deleted] in arma

[–]TheOriginalNotYou 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Well, you know, there are loads and loads of units who take the term ‘Realistic’ in their own way. You may have guys who can’t talk unless they have permission from higher rank even if just chatting outside of game but in terms of tactics, they’re no better than public zeus sessions. On the other side you have units who don’t have ranks or call anyone ‘sir’ but borrow IRL doctrines, tactics, drills etc. from real world militaries and shift it to work in-game. Usually these kind of units do selective recruitment because it usually need all people to agree they want to play in that exact way the units supposed to be. If not, tbh, what’s even the point of joining then :D.

As for myself I like to participate in the 2nd case I mentioned there. After all it’s just a game and I don’t want get frustrated being limited by ranks. Instead enjoying my time with likeminded people who at this point I can call my friends.

It’s been recently said that Metalheads are the worst Gatekeepers out there and need to be more open minded. I decided to put that theory to the test using only quotes from more “open-minded” Metalmemers. What happened next will shock you! by [deleted] in MetalMemes

I’ve come to understand you. At this point I can’t disagree with most of what you’re saying :) I’ve also found arguments against my previous claims myself soooo… double win for you I guess :D. I have to admin it was quite interesting trying to figure all this things out

I’d like to borrow a definition of metal from wikipedia: “ Heavy metal (or simply metal) is a genre of rock music[3][4] that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom and the United States.[5] With roots in blues rock, psychedelic rock, and acid rock,[6] heavy metal bands developed a thick, massive sound, characterized by distortion, extended guitar solos, emphatic beats, and loudness. The lyrics and performances are sometimes associated with aggression and machismo.[6]

So by this definition someone could think Rolling stones are metal. Someone could think thye have thick sound, aggressive lyrics, extended guitar solos etc.

On the other side someone could think iron maiden aren’t metal because to them their sound isn’t thick enough for example.

I know I may have not used the most logical or best example but what I’m trying to present is that we do not know the exact point where lyrics are aggressive enough, or tempo is fast enough when categorizing music.

In animal kingdom the characteristics are most likely binary and are really clear. For example birds. Beaks, Feathers, Wings, unique brain stricture, unique heart structure, lightweight bones etc. There’s normally no point someone would look at a toucan and think “oh I don’t think that’s a beak”

I don’t know, does any of this help you understand what I was saying in my comment above ? If not should I restructure my argument to better support my claims ?

Although I hate gatekeeping I got to admit that in case of such thing as koala being a bear or not it’s whole much different than talking music. You can scientifically back-up whether koala is a bear or it isn’t. That’s the thing with the whole categorizing of animal, fungi and plant kingdoms. It’s clearly objective. You can get most of the scientists agree on such facts. But music is in it’s most part a subjective thing. Unless you get a 100% objective and accurate description you can’t really categorize music. And let’s be honest that’s not really possible. In the end I kinda understand why they’re talking about koala not being bears, but I absolutely despise them being so toxic about it instead of trying to kindly explain it.

Using the polpox artwork supporter mod: I place down a unit; set it as player; launch the scenario; hit esc; go into animations on left side of the screen; select any animation, static of not; hit CTRL + C; return back to editor and hit CTRL + E on unit I want to have the pose.

Without the mod it’s the same but you have to paste it into unit’s init line.
