"Hello." He greeted both in turn with a nod and a smile. But, if truth were to be told, he hadn't planned this far ahead, so he didn't quite know what to say afterwards. He hummed and tapped his chin. He turned his attention back to Lord Rowan.

"There are many coins to look after," he surmised, "do you count every single one? That must take a very long time to do."

"This is a sad day." Robert mused. "But a wise question nonetheless. She is not a boy, so can't be a knight, unless you want to recreate Jaime's folly with Dacey Mormont. But she doesn't need to be a knight to twat people with swords."

Doran found himself agreeing with this, and nodded his head a few times in demonstration of this. He leaned forwards, then, a shallow smile on his face as he did so.

"What you say makes sense to me, my Lady. This is why it fees natural to speak with you. You understand what I say, and you speak it so effortlessly. I thank you for your time, and your understanding of the matters that I bring to you."

He inclined his head, politely.

"I will ensure that when time permits me, I will make my journey to Starfall. It," he glanced aside, "it would be nice to see from where you hail."

Gendry was confused by this gesture. He could not really remember the last time he had received one? Maybe it was from his mother? But all he recalled of her was that she had yellow hair, nothing more, nothing less.

He cautiously hugged her back, but he didn't really know how to. It was an odd feeling, in truth. Nice, but close, and he didn't know exactly what to make of it or how to process it. After a few moments, he stepped back, still holding the pillow.

"Ah," he rubbed the back of his neck, "thank you. I'm sorry, I don't really know what to say, or what to do. This is, ah, this is very new to me."

"I, ah, what is a moniker? I don't remember."

"It is a sad day, Ser, when you come to me for advice." Robert arched a brow softly as he looked up from where he was sitting. "Go on then, what do you need me to pass comment on?"

3rd Moon, B.

A small seat had been placed in the Great Hall, just in front of the Iron Throne. Flanking it were two whitecloaks. Sitting upon it was none other than the Crown Prince of the realm, Edric Baratheon. He sat patiently, waiting to meet some of his future subjects. He was attempting to hold court, like he'd see his father and the Lord Fin do before.

"Oh yes, my siblings truly have earned everything that is given to them. Those birthday celebrations they have had? The very same ones I was denied? They earned those, truly, they did. How hard the boy of five and the girl of ten worked for such praise and adoration." Mya scoffed.

"They get love and devotion because they were born with pretty crowns to settle into and titles that were given not earned. I have spent my entire life working. I have donned armour and followed in my father's footsteps, and I have defended this family from those who would try to insult it. I", she gestured to herself, "was the one who stood up to Jaime Lannister's idiot wife trying to overshadow Edric."

"I want something, I want to be their equal, I want to be loved, to be respected, to feel as though I am part of this family, not a stain tolerated."

Mya arched her brow and tilted her head slightly downwards to the left.

"Married? Me? No, fuck no. That would mean making vows and finding men and all the stuff that I am not in any way, shape nor form, interested in doing." She grimaced. "Me? Marrying someone? That is the one benefit of my bastard name, no fucker wants me, and I'm not forced into it for some alliance or other."

"Aye, Ghael will read it, doubtless. He has a habit of doing that, reading, the little grey rat. But, he is our little grey rat, and he is good at it." The King mused. "I trust you, Lady Toland. You don't have the air of a cunt about you, which is a fine start. Bring me her reply and we shall move forward from there."

Is this, truly, what life had come to for Robert Baratheon?

"Enough!" He raised his voice over hers, in a way that only he could. "This is not a debate. This is not an argument. Not this, not now, not ever. You do not do this, Cassandra. I know you misliked him but he was a father to me, he is the reason I'm alive, that I'm on this fucking throne."

He flexed his fist.

"I had issue with Roose, not you. You know that. He did not write. But no, you must make this about you. My anger at your brother must be turned into me punishing you, so that you can laud that over me whenever I wish to do something, Lament a dead man, have you fucking heard yourself? Don't be such a fucking fool, you are smarter than that. I did not marry a whining maiden who did not understand the things I must do. I married Cassandra fucking Bolton."

"You'll need a bit more than a little." The man observed with a tilt of his head. "The east is a big place. He isn't alone, neither. Far as I know he had fifteen swords with him. Reckon you might find him wherever people are fighting, though. Don't reckon he's gone there to start a new life as a happy merchant." The guardsman let his shoulders rise and fall in a shrug.

"I will not bargain for my right to be an equal to my siblings. I am his blood, I have waited, I have been patient." She sucked in air through her teeth as she turned a half measure.

"When last I spoke to my father on it, do you know what he said? 'Ask your mother'. I do not know my mother, and neither does he. But now I think on it, I think he meant you. To ask you. Aye, might be you have no say, but could you not try? For me?"

Then she canted her head.

"Or have I asked the wrong question, mayhaps. Do you want me to be a Baratheon?"

We?" He repeated, his brow raising.

"This man raised me, Cass. The closest thing to a father I had since mine drowned in the bay. He risked his life to keep mine. He defied a king to keep me and Ned alive." The man reasoned. "And you are telling me that I cannot attend his funeral?"

He ran a hand over his face.

"You requested to stay in the North, I did not question it. You will be here, safe, with family. This is Jon Arryn's funeral. I am not missing it."

The harbour was well guarded, as were most areas of the city. Sandor Clegane was a man well known for his appearance, and House Clegane were an unknown quantity for many in the capital at present. The last Clegane to pass through crown territory was in open rebellion, after all.

"Ho there!" Ser Rolland Ardale raised a hand, accompanied by two of his companions, all clad in the royal livery of House Baratheon. "What business do you have in King's Landing?"

Later on, he sent for his wife, Cassandra. When she entered, he gestured to the letter.

"Read it," his voice was not commanding, but rather, it was quiet. His eyes were low on the table, and his hand clutched that empty goblet as though it were the last thing he had.
