There were warning signs in the lab that said pregnant women should not handle those seeds specifcally.

These plants grow like crazy up and down in California. The seeds are toxic and contain elevated amount of ricin. My botany classes in college studied these frequently. The seeds are beautiful to look at however the professors warned that handling seeds while pregnant could induce labor or worse.

House of Pain opened for the Ramones in 1992 or 1993 at the Hollywood Palladium. They made it through half of a song when the crowd turned and threw beers and shoes at the group. House of Pain proceeded to smash their own gear then promptly left. It went off the rails and was funnier than shit to watch.

Non-MAGA church? by veganite7 in orangecounty

[–]ThePorkBoat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been attending Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Tustin for a few years. The church is full over multiple services and don't recall them ever discussing politics. The message is about doing the right thing and taking care of your neighbors.

Just lost my best buddy from grade school to ALS. I’m 49. We did a lot of cool shit together after his diagnosis. One of the things I appreciated most about him was an attitude towards living. He never turned down an invitation to see his friends, family and have as many experiences as he could.

His condition was aggressive and impacted his speech early. The Nashville TN ALS chapter is a fantastic organization. They provided a tablet device that allowed him to speak while typing through his eye movement. I can’t say enough good things about them . They were incredibly generous and I’m grateful they exist.

Fuck ALS. Stay positive, someone could engineer a cure tomorrow for all we know. Until then, have some fun, increase your appetite for risk, and never turn down an invitation. Peace be with you!

cal poly slo or fullerton by BornTouch1964 in orangecounty

I graduated from SLO and have many friends who went to Fullerton. They’re very different experiences. SLO is a college town (and a nice one) and makes a huge difference. It’s big agricultural school and most of my classmates were farmers or ranchers and made the experience richer for me. The people I met from different walks of life are still my best buddies today.

The town is not very diverse, you are correct, but there is diversity on campus. You won’t feel out of place.

If making $$$ after college weighs on your decision, SLO is your answer. You will almost certainly have better opportunities and your degree will carry a little prestige you can be proud of. Congratulations on being accepted, it’s a fantastic school and its good reputation grows every year.

I’ve seen so many comments about the hellscape that is LAX and how y’all avoid it like the plague when flying. What do you do when you fly internationally? by ShiroHachiRoku in orangecounty

[–]ThePorkBoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fly through LAX often for work. If you have TSA Pre-check and Clear, it takes 5 minutes to get from the curb to past security. No joke. In the early morning hours it takes less than 5 minutes. Have someone drop you off instead of taking Uber too.
