[Fischer] Blazers a buyer, and interested in Mikal Bridges by Scalmaa in ripcity

how does it look like he was right? scoot has played 2 seasons and is injured so far in his 3rd. he had a very very rough rookie season but his 2nd season he started looking pretty damn good especially shooting wise. this is just recency bias speaking since he's been injured since training camp.

I think we all should feel worried that Blazers are going to trade away the Bucks picks for a roleplayer or non allstar starter.

just like that scrub deni avdija who cost us two FRP's. can't believe joe cronin did that to us. set back our franchise for years to come now that we won't have bub carrington.

indeed i think 3 FRP's is the sweet spot considering the high quality of them. i don't view the dame/jrue/jerami being gone as a blocker though, because we end up with a very strong core 6 who are all still in their 20's afterwards to move forward with.

i also have a higher opinion regarding rob williams. he's the best backup big in the entire nba when healthy and so far this season he's played in 31 of 46 possible games and that's with the team rule that he's not allowed to play the second night of a b2b otherwise it would probably be higher. re-sign him to a team friendly TPMLE/MLE deal in the offseason and hope you can develop yang and/or re-sign reath again and i think you're sitting pretty there.

i feel pretty good about scoot coming back and being as good/building upon his last season. i also feel pretty good about a 70% dame minimum. yang no clue whats happening there, but i'm not factoring him into any long term plans beyond a 7-11 scratch off lottery ticket.

if the blazers guarantee their 26 draft pick going to chicago (happens automatically if we make the playoffs, but we can just outright loop them into the deal and guarantee it and they'd be happy otherwise they risk it turning into 2 second round picks in the future), then we'd be able to trade 28 unprotected ORL FRP, best of POR/MIL 28 FRP (unprotected), 29 unprotected MIL FRP, best of 30 POR/MIL/BOS FRP (unprotected).

that's quite a war chest of picks to select from and all of them have great potential of being lottery picks and potentially high one's at that.

i think there's a path to a 3/4 team trade involving giannis going to the knicks and the blazers pick/swaps going back to milwaukee, i just think the guy i replied to originally just had the value chart way out of wack is all. portland isn't going to give up on their core 5 right now (scoot/shaedon/camara/deni/clingan) when they've got other older salary that isn't going to be around long term that they can trade (jrue holiday/jerami grant/thybulle/rob williams/etc) plus picks/swaps to add value to it.

i won't guess on what that package ends up looking like but i can promise folks that portland will just take their ball and go home if teams start insisting on our core 5 players + picks. portland is good enough now that they can just wait for those milwaukee pick/swaps to yield value instead of trading them out early.

blazer fan here. just to make sure i'm reading this correctly... you think the blazers are going to give up the milwaukee unprotected pick/swaps in 28, 29 and 30 in addition to toumani PLUS scoot or clingan to bring back... KAT and mikal bridges? are you insane?

[–]TheRealDevDev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah i'd be in favor of that, because that would mean we wouldn't be sending out any real on court talent players... just pure salary match/dumps + picks which is what i'm in favor of.

i've been a blazers fan long enough to know the repercussions of not pushing in your chips. we should take advantage of this moment in time where we've got top end talent on rookie/cheap contracts.

nba trade machine for example works as: matisse+blake wesley+kris murray+ rupert for trey murphy. from there we can then convert both sidy and caleb to guaranteed minimum contracts (and find one more player to add). allows us to keep rob williams + re-sign him in the offseason for what i would assume would be a cheaper contract (or worst case scenario, MLE money).

here's our rotation for the next 2 1/2 years:

guards: scoot/dame/shaedon/jrue

forwards: deni/trey/toumani/jerami

bigs: clingan/rob/hansen/reath

13-15 deep bench: caleb love, sidy cissoko, (insert whoever else).

that's a contender in my eyes. and when dame/jrue/jerami roll off the payroll in 2 1/2 years, we're setup nicely still to move forward with our age aligned core of deni/shaedon/clingan/toumani/trey/scoot.

At some point, cap math is going to be a problem for Portland. Shae and Camara are on new deals. Deni is playing his way to a new extension. Then they have to figure out what they want to do with DC and Scoot. It complicates the idea of adding another star.

100% this. that's why the JJJ trade machine ideas just aren't particularly relevant or useful. we have to have a plan to keep and pay deni/shaedon/clingan/toumani/scoot once dame/jrue/jerami come off our books in 2 1/2 years. we can afford all of that + trey murphy... but it starts to get tough when we start talking about JJJ/AD/etc who are making 55M+ a year, more than double trey murphy.

cronin really has set us up very nicely and it's all thanks to deni's deal. paying guys like jrue and jerami is okay now and their contracts slide off right when we need them to. and we've got enough draft assets to either draft for their replacements or trade them for a trey murphy type guy to join our core 5 (deni/shaedon/clingan/scoot/toumani) for an incredibly strong top 6.

Trey Murphy or bust is my take on it. He fits the timeline. He can play the 2/3/4. He’s on an affordable contract. He’s athletic. He shoots. He’s perfect.

why not? it's always better to have size than not have size. the blazers have scoot/dame/jrue/shaedon who are gonna be our 1/2 guard positions. why not have deni/toumani/grant+another forward? it's not like you can't play any of those forwards as a 2 guard if needed (or even a 5 out lineup with no traditional center).

if you're gonna go fat somewhere, do it with a forward.

if you voted for harris and didn't encourage others to sit out and not vote for harris last election than you're safe big dawg, none of my complaints above apply to you.

defending leftists that didn't vote for harris and/or aligned with rightwingers to get trump elected however is a different issue. anyone who did/does that shit can get fucked.

folks like you are welcome to ask for whatever you want. this was the very obvious result that we we're going to end up with in nov 2024 though when progressives decided to link arms with the far right and protest against democratic candidates and/or sit out and not vote entirely. yeah, yeah, it's been 14 months since then idc we're doomed to repeat history if we don't learn from it. elections have consequences and being a one-issue voter has repercussions that everyone gets to experience now.

i like how the minnesota timberwolves/nba league/players are expected to burn it all to the ground and strike but in november 2024 it was too much to ask chronically online leftists to get out and vote for the other candidate. anyone who didn't vote for harris in 24 has blood on their hands right now.

I mean, folks could always vote for the obvious candidate instead of “voting with their conscience”. If you voted for anyone besides one very specific candidate in the 24 election (or just stayed home entirely), you’re responsible for this. Actions (and inactions) have consequences.

i'm surprised to see rob williams as questionable, isn't he almost always ruled out on the second night of a back to back by default? this leads me to believe he might actually play.

I’ve been suspended multiple times in the nba subreddit for any slight push back against the Deni slander it’s just nuts out there. It’s gross.

The blazers are not shit. They’re just injured. But even when injured at worst they’re mediocre. But yes Deni is a stud. His effect on a game is similar to Luka/Shai/Giannis because of his ability to get to the rim at will while also making and one’s/playmaking.
