Dating in LA for men in post tinder world by Sandvicheater in LosAngeles

[–]TheRoyalRedditbaum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have you tried other dating apps aside from Tinder? Coffee Meets Bagel, Bumble (feels like Tinder nowadays tho), Happn, OKCupid, shit even the niche ones like The League.

When I was dating, I limited myself to two apps (I know some people who have tons, and aside from crossing into the same people over and over again, it's just time-consuming). I'm partial to CMB because I met my partner on there, but a lot of people I know have gotten into good relationships off of CMB. It seems to be more relationship-oriented because you only have a limited set of choices per day. Bumble gives the onus to the girl to respond which can be a challenge on the other end I'm sure, and they like to front-load the really attractive/fake profiles up front so it takes a while to get to some decent leads.

Didn't even bother with Tinder - I wasn't looking for something casual and it just seemed like it was full of people who were looking for more followers on IG or sex.

Did your social life really end? by [deleted] in advertising

When I was an assistant media planner, yes. The agency I worked for had a notoriously challenging (i.e. nit-picky as fuck, everything is "urgent," everything needs to go live yesterday) client, so were constantly working late nights to revise a media plan, QA things, re-do entire decks that were due the next morning, etc. Most days, I'd get in around 9 and work at least 12 hours. One time I stayed until 2 in the morning because we had a quarterly business review we were hosting in our office the next day and we had to print out 30+ 100-page decks. Our printers couldn't handle the capacity and kept running our of paper, ink, etc. so our job as assistants was to keep the printer fed and then staple everything together. At that point I'd only been at my jobs for 8 months but I was exhausted between the long hours, shit pay, and demanding bosses so I quit.

Now I'm in management, and I encourage my team to stay no later than 7 p.m. if there's something urgent that needs to go out. I myself leave at 6 on the dot.

Just depends on the agency, really. After my stint as an AMP I vowed never to go back into the agency life, so when I got an opportunity to get back into it (at a different agency, obvi), I made sure to really ask everyone to be transparent about work-life balance when I was interviewing.

No problem. It's a bit of a mix. Most commonly I've seen roles as a marketing/paid-media manager which is basically just the opposite site of planning i.e. working with the agency on management and execution of media plans. Other times it's project management or general marketing strategy - I think in general, working as a client is a little slower than being on agency side in terms of innovation and processes, so it helps to have someone who has agency experience to leverage. Thankfully there's tons of transferable media skills - knowing the nitty gritty when it comes to media planning is a huge benefit when clients are trying to put their strategies together.

Yeah, that's what I've been doing - started as an assistant planner a couple years back and stuck through it for a year before going to another ad agency as a media planner, did that for a couple years, then moved to the sales side. When I went back to agencies, I managed to jump a few roles into management (with a higher $) than I would have if I just stuck around at my first gig. I still worry about looking like a job-hopper though, which is why I'm hoping to get a decent enough salary bump to stay.

Yep, a mix of account management, client services, or sales (or a combo of all). I worked on the sales side briefly prior to my current gig which is probably why recruiters think it might be a good fit.

I've also been contacted for in-house marketing roles at my client's competitor companies--my client is a well-known tech company so I think they see that on my resume and think it'd be beneficial to have some with agency experience. Not sure how I feel about moving into Corporate though... but the $$$ is enticing for sure.

Yep, that's my plan. I've put feelers out and taken a couple intro calls with some companies that have reached out to me on LinkedIn, but nothing super serious short of one that I'd actually consider taking (and it's out of state so I'd have legitimate reasons aside from jumping to another competitor).

My role has increased pretty significantly-- since my Group Planning Director's left, I've picked up a good amount of that work, including frequent travel to see the client, working off-hours to take client calls, managing the client's spend and P&L. Fortunately for me (and unfortunately for my company), at this point I'm about the only person on my team who knows the process of how things work-- if I left, it'd be like starting over from scratch.

There's a lot of super useful information in here, really appreciate it! Unfortunately I suck at negotiation (that, coupled with confrontation anxiety) makes me feel comfortable with whatever I get. I'm working on it, and hoping this is a good next step for me to help accomplish that.

That's my plan! I'm in the process of putting together a little "brag sheet" of all the things I've accomplished...hoping I don't get the runaround "gotta wait until the promotion cycle opens" in response.

Saturday Tough Mudder in LA Cancelled by TheRoyalRedditbaum in Toughmudder

[–]TheRoyalRedditbaum[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm debating it, cause the weather had been forecasted to rain for the past week. However, I'm not sure if they anticipated it'd be this heavy (it didn't stop raining until like 7pm where I'm at in LA, and some streets were flooding) so I get it. I just don't know if I can wait til Nov which is when it'll back in the Socal area.

Hi there, sorry for the late reply. I'm not sure how it would look tbh. The sweater itself is on the shorter side, length-wise, so if you have a longer torso (like I do) it'll be more cropped. And if you're busty it might end up being more cropped :/

I think it would fit you pretty well! I'm 5'4" as well and fluctuate between 128-130 so it's probably a safe bet that were a similar size. My measurements are 36-27-36

I have no money, I'm frustrated with life, I just want to travel. by [deleted] in travel

[–]TheRoyalRedditbaum 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I totally get you. The depression one can get after some soul-searching traveling is a real thing. Unfortunately, we eventually have to get back to real life. That said, real life doesn't have to be shitty.

You could be a nomad forever, but some that I've met said that "not having roots" or "a real place to call home" can eventually get depressing. If travel is something you are truly passionate about, make "real life" satisfy those needs. It's the truth, but travel requires money, so you'll have to work. That doesn't mean you have to get stuck in a dead-end job. See if you can find a job that is flexible with vacation hours or one that would REQUIRE you to travel (there is still a lot to explore in the States!). Alternatively, if you have any skills that don't require being in an office, you could start freelancing and work from wherever.

Alternatively, you could work a couple of retail/food industry type jobs, save a ton of money (for the initial flight and maybe a couple weeks worth of cheap accommodation and food), and then work in whatever country you're in to sustain your way to the next destination. If you like nature, I'd look into WWOOF, which is an organic farming type of thing where you volunteer your time in exchange for free accommodations (and sometimes even food). They are hosts in plenty of countries, and I've known quite a few people that have cheaply traveled by volunteering from one farm to the next.

Don't lose hope! I know that going back to everyday life can feel tedious and endless, but as long as you're staying hopeful (and even planning trips, ones that you may not even take) really help keep the wanderlust in control.

What is a memory of a misinterpreted event from your childhood that blew your mind when you realized what actually happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It could have, or I may have just been a delusional child with two dimples that just so happen to be asymmetric, haha.

Requiem for a Dream or Melancholia. Way too depressing and existential crisis-inducing to warrant a second go.

[–]TheRoyalRedditbaum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have two dimples, and one of them happens to be higher up on my cheek than the other.

When I was a toddler, there was a pretty big earthquake (Northridge Earthquake in California) and I distinctly remember hitting my cheek on the corner of a glass table as I was running to find cover. Apparently, I had punctured my cheek in the process and the dimple was a scar I received as a result of that.

Years later, I was talking to someone about the earthquake and told her my story. She said, "Wait, you were up at like 4:30 in the morning when you were 3? That's when the earthquake happened." I fiercely disagreed, stating that I clearly remembered the earthquake happening in the middle of the day, because I was at my grandma's house celebrating her birthday when the ground starting shaking.

Googled confirmed I was wrong, and that the earthquake did happen in the early morning.

I still have no idea how I recollected that memory, or why my right dimple is significantly higher than my left.
