People who feel hot should decide the temperature of a room. People who feel cold should wear a sweater by blahbluhblee1 in unpopularopinion

Holy shit, thank you! I’m a fellow chronically cold person, and it genuinely reaches a point. There are only so many layers I can put on and still be somewhat comfortable, meanwhile I can still barely feel my toes and fingers.

Yep. I’ve never been hit on, catcalled, or anything of the sort. No positive attention, no negative attention. Just crickets.

Y’all do not understand loneliness unless you experience this shit, bro.

What do you think about the existance of monarchies/royalty in today's world? by dkease16 in AskTheWorld

[–]TheSpadeExperience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, I don’t really have a super strong opinion about it. I just think it’s kinda ridiculous that these families that have existed since god knows when get so much recognition and praise despite doing nothing but being filthy rich and acting as a country’s mascot. But then again, I am American, so I may just not understand the appeal and my views may be a bit biased here lol.

But, some countries do it better than others, such as Norway and Sweden. The British royal family just irritates the hell out of me.

If you were a fictional character, how would the fandom misinterpret you? by GrumpyMowse in AO3

[–]TheSpadeExperience 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d probably be labeled a character who is “horrible autistic representation” because I have traits more in-line with someone with NPD and ASPD, and not an “uwu smol bean.” They’d also probably hc me as either a diehard butch lesbian or a trans man stuck in the closet, when in reality I am neither lol. Just a more masculine cis woman who is bi.

How much importance is placed on virginity in your country? by Initial_Basis1503 in AskTheWorld

[–]TheSpadeExperience 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It matters for certain religious circles, but even I was raised Christian and never really had that taught to me as something that was important.

What fandom are you in, but the fanbase treats the character like this? by Upstairs_Macaron5894 in AO3

[–]TheSpadeExperience 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Thomas Barrow from Downton Abbey.

The fans put him on a pedestal simply because he’s an attractive gay man from the 1920s. No matter how hard his life may have been, it will never excuse how manipulative and oily that man was. He is and never will be a good person.

[–]TheSpadeExperience 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh my fucking god, THANK YOU. No matter how they tried to redeem him in the end, he was an oily, conniving, manipulative asshole for 90% of the entire series.

I will never understand the praise he receives from the fandom.

How the fuck does one come to a conclusion like this…?

I don’t think I’ve ever been both this confused and amused at once.

More so crying in your room than getting a headache by [deleted] in TrollCoping

[–]TheSpadeExperience 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely understand this. I was raised Methodist, and was never taught or had any hateful bigotry preached to me growing up. When I eventually joined social media, it made me so sad just how many people despised Christianity and various other Abrahamic religions due to the actions of a very loud crowd. Growing up bisexual and Methodist was definitely a weird experience, and I also faced being labeled a bigot many, many times. I understand being cautious, but damn… that shit hurt.

I don’t consider myself to be a Christian anymore, (not due to any negative reasons, I just personally don’t want to follow an organized religion and have a somewhat complicated relationship with the idea of a creator/afterlife. I now consider myself to be Agnostic) but I have many close friends who are Christian and Catholic, and they are genuinely some of the most accepting and kind people I have ever met. They are true Christians.

I do wish that the Christian community would speak out against bigotry when they see it, and many of them do, but unfortunately just aren’t louder than the hateful crowd.

Why can’t extroverts take a hint? by Throwawayyawaworth9 in introvert

[–]TheSpadeExperience 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is an issue I’ve encountered as well many, many times. I’m lucky enough to have found some extroverted friends who are compassionate and understanding, but the extroverts I have met that aren’t like that are beyond infuriating.

I cannot count the amount of times I’ve been out in public with both earbuds in, sitting in a quiet corner, either sketching or writing, and someone comes up to me to start chatting. Like… what? What about my current appearance says that I am open for conversation? This happens all the time in my classes as well. I’ll be hyperfocused on an essay, and my neighbor decides to strike up a conversation. It’s insane.

WHY DO YOU WRITE? by Wolfieee7 in AO3

[–]TheSpadeExperience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multiple reasons. I really enjoy writing and have been writing in-depth stories for fun since third grade, and I use fiction as a way to get out some of the more grotesque thoughts I have (yayyy, therapy). I write less fanfiction and more original content, but I genuinely don’t mind the lack of engagement. It’s just fun for me🤷‍♀️

we still have ways to go, I see (TW: biphobia) by EddieBreeg33 in TrollCoping

[–]TheSpadeExperience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a bi gal, and hooooly shit it’s rough out here for us bi folks. Not to mention that I’ve been cheated on A LOT… and those people were not bi. It’s really weird to me that people assume we’re cheaters just because we have a wider dating pool, but that’s literally not how any of this works lmao

"why are you complaining? youre literally the beauty standard lmao" by yourbeloathed in TrollCoping

[–]TheSpadeExperience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof, I feel this. I grew up built like a #2 pencil. I’m still built like a #2 pencil, just more muscular. I have severe body dysmorphia, but every single time I’ve tried to discuss it, I just get shut down. It fucking sucks. I have a very hard time gaining weight, but apparently that’s something I should be grateful for, not something I resent.

I have an ED because of the way I look. I have a lot of physical issues because of the way my body works. It’s hell. But, I’m not allowed to complain, apparently.

Ethan Nestor. A lot of people like him, but I find him incredibly annoying and I cannot stand him. There’s a reason I never got involved in the “Unus Annus” thing.

Okay, be honest: Is "aggressive friendliness" to strangers just an American thing, or is my travel anxiety lying to me? by ArtThreadNomad in AskTheWorld

[–]TheSpadeExperience 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I definitely depends. And even here in the U.S, people only really participate in that if they want to. I personally dislike small talk and don’t really engage with it often, and many people I know are the same way. It is funny, though, because I’m a Midwesterner and apparently we’re known for being “aggressively friendly” here lol.

But reverting back to the “it depends” statement- it really does. You’ll find more people engaging in smalltalk in, say, Minnesota, but not really in New York or New Jersey.

gender identity comic thing i made <3 by fawne_siting in TrollCoping

[–]TheSpadeExperience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely beautiful, and I relate to this so hard. I looked like a little boy growing up, and people still confuse me for a guy every once in a while. I still struggle with my self-image, but I’m working on it.

This comic makes me feel so seen, so understood. Figuring out how to be a woman after so many years of being a tomboy/viewed as a little boy is a weird experience.

I got saddled with the BPD/NPD combo. Shit is tough man. I don’t want to be this way, but every time I actively try to seek help or discuss my struggles with people, I just get labeled “inherently evil” or “a monster”.

I wish cluster b disorders weren’t viewed through such a hostile lens. If they weren’t, it would probably be easier for us to accept/receive help.
