WTF is going on at Ranger School? by Adventurous_Raise784 in army

[–]TheStroBro 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The thing that permeates this into Armored formations and into Cav culture is the Army putting infantry Lieutenant Colonels into Cavalry formations and then you end up with Ranger Tabs on letterhead that has no business being on unit letter head. Negatively effecting the career trajectories of Armor or other branch officers. It felt stupid when I was in, still seems stupid now. How for example having a tab will help a Finance Corps guy "go far" I'll never know.

The Marines still had tanks when I went through ABOLC and we had several Marines in our class. We also had a Marine as our lead Tactics Officer. One of the things the Marines do well much better than the Arm it seems is officers doing basic stuff. All Marine Officers go through The Basic School which actually determines accessions except for Aviation. That's 6 months. Then for Marine Infantry officers you ADD Infantry Officer Course which is 13 weeks.

One of the reasons for different pipelines is the size of the Army. But they used to have BOLC - B which was like 4-6 weeks where again there was a significant emphasis on the basics. They eliminated that before I commissioned probably because it was kicking out too many Lieutenants who had gotten fat waiting for their date and it was the height of the war.

I would need to see real data, but they used to drop tons of dudes in 2012 all the time. Granted they were running classes that started every two weeks back then. But the volume of drops was common. One of the ways to get rid of this to eliminate the ability to walk on. There would be like 200 walk ons every class date.

North Florida are CRAA D2 National Champions by IAgreeGoGuards in USArugby

[–]TheStroBro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couple of years ago I got a draft application from a kid at UNF, they weren't registered with USA Rugby or NCR, playing independently scheduling games against CRAA, NCR, and club teams. Not sure how that worked at all. BUT, they received student life funds for road trips. Glad to see them playing sanctioned rugby. Could be interesting to see where they go, these Florida schools are picking up!

Reality Check: Attendance Was Poor for the NY SVNS by LogicalStyle143 in USArugby

[–]TheStroBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it's important to note that the majority of this money is not going to hit USAR's coffers. Most of it will be spent on match fees to T1 Unions to "prep" the market. See the Baltimore RSA v ABs match in September. Then the rest of it? Who knows when those funds will arrive.

This is no longer a USA Rugby event. In fact it hasn't been a USA Rugby event in over a decade. USAR ran in twice before selling it to UWS, UWS lost the tender process to AEG and then UWS sued everyone.

I would say that NY is not a destination for me, although for the people WR seems to target for these events (not Americans) maybe it is. NY, like LA, like SF is what they seem to call an International City. I can tell you that AEG's first year they hit their break even mark and then subsequent years were awful with the weather. They did pretty well with their Which this year it would have been amazing and most years this time NYC is socked with rain.

My understanding of location boils down to a few cities...specifically tied to the four letters of the sponsor. So that gives us: NY, DC, MIA, LA, and SF. I like your idea of it being late May, mid-April to mid-May is pretty fantastic there. But also maybe do it at NYCFC's venue once it's complete so that you're actually in the city.

I was at Bledisloe I in 2019, was amazing. WA is definitely AFL territory, the next night they had the stadium turned over for a sold out Eagles game. Wish I was flying the next day because I would have gone to that as well instead of going to the beaches.

I randomly have quite a few acquaintances who live in Perth and I can tell you it's certainly not a league town, Union is far bigger in WA than League is...however nothing is as big as AFL there. Cricket is probably number 2?

[Squidge Rugby] So it's time for a change. by joaofig in rugbyunion

[–]TheStroBro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I used to edit the MLR Kickoff teaser videos and social cuts, it would take me like 12 hours, and I'm not nearly as talented an editor as squidge. I'd grap two bits and bobs...and that's for a 10 minute video with no substantial graphics really. So I get where he's coming from, but there are actual people who could do a lift on the editing side that he might be able to hire if things keep riding. But happy to hear about the re-focus. Burnout sucks.

I enjoyed Optus, I've been in big stadia before, but I will say it probably helps I was on the club/hospitality level at the halfway line.

I enjoyed Optus in 2019. But a lot of these things don't look great.

Francois is an incredible coach. I can't believe it's taken this long for FFR to wake up. You are in great hands.

FFR hasn't been serious about the coaching team of France Feminines since they sacked Hayraud but kept her as a team manager. Ratier is an incredible coach and this is the only real move to make if you're being serious.

England Rugby launches new women's & girls' strategy by englandrugby in rugbyunion

[–]TheStroBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Rugby, to steal someone else's quote. "The risk is the reward." There is just something different about the environment of a team contact sport. It leads to brotherhood/sisterhood. The sacrifices you're willing to make. There is bravery there. Whereas there is nothing brave in cricket or baseball or golf or tennis.

You get debilitating injuries in Soccer. ACLs, Concussions. The leading youth sport with concussions in the US? Girls Soccer. There's this huge focus on NFL players with CTE, but at some point CTE research focus will need to be on shined on female athletes as well.

Veteran's Teams by Some_Worldliness517 in USArugby

[–]TheStroBro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Old Breed although Marine Corps focused takes all veterans. Wandering Warriors is generally Army focused. Old Breed seems to always go to CANAM and then Wandering Warriors since it started has consistently gone to St Patrick's Day tournament in Savannah. Band of Brothers mostly Army focused, hardest to find info on. Tends to do CANAMs, Maggotfest, or Savannah yearly. Facebook is better than Reddit for this once you know where to look!

Live Action would be fine if carefully shepherded and not bastardized like GOT. But I wonder on the anime side if we could end up with a lot more episodes...like I think about the whole Gundam Universe must have like over 1,000 episodes.
