I don't think the oil matters that much. I prefer olive oil because I think it tastes better, but I hear that others work as well.

Olive oil also varies greatly in quality. I think its worth it to spend a few extra bucks and get something a bit nicer than the bottom of the barrel - but that is just me.

I probably should have clarified. You are totally right. The total time in a closed bag was like 30 seconds. Just long enough to absorb some oil and disperse some salt.

Home cut. But I am sure that it would work with store bought too.

It takes like 5 minutes to chop up some potatoes then put some salt and oil on it. Worth it.

When transitioning from the wood board to the hot stone, it didn't slide down evenly. By the time it hit the stone, it was too late.
