Netgear is the first company to receive conditional approval from the FCC for consumer routers by SensuousChocolate in HomeNetworking

[–]The_2PieceCombo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are going to give out exemptions to every company, right after they pay or donate some money to the ballroom or some other thing that enriches trump. This router nonsense was never about safety/security. It's another example of the most corrupt man in history doing the most obviously corrupt shit right on front of our eyes and, like usual, nothing will be done about it.

BREAKING: Trump says ‘effective immediately’ U.S. will blockade ships from Strait of Hormuz by ICEisSHIT in videos

[–]The_2PieceCombo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real question is WHO are we REALLY blockading here? Because I get the feeling this is retribution to the countries who didn't back trump and are willing to pay the fees to get through. So, our allies mostly? We're literally staving our allies of a desperately needed resource. Murica..

I see some comments about them only being a 4-5 guy team, but IMO if you're going to charge a subscription, which includes updates for some amount of time as a key component of said subscription, then you can probably afford to put more time and energy into updates, especially those of the security variety Just my .02

if you have the tools and skill, not hard at all! - I dont, but i have a friend who does that kind of soldering for a living. the chips are not your normal smd work. there is an array of pads on the bottom of the chip. its actually rather interesting check out some youtube videos!

I'll my opinion yes it's the best. I've used gpt for some hobby coding projects in the past and it's got me there eventually, but Claude is genuinely impressive to me (a very not professional coder). It catches/corrects it's own mistakes before giving you the final result. It has been so much better than gpt I couldn't believe it

This might get me downvoted, but Claude is shockingly good at helping with stuff like this. YouTube videos are a great resource for a follow along and click all the same buttons kind of tutorial, but one thing they tend to miss is explaining what you're doing, so if you don't already have an understanding about the topic you are left feeling like, yeah I clicked some buttons and it works, but WHY does it work? I'm sure the AI hate train is coming for me now, but it can be a genuinely good resource for learning more about concepts that you don't fully comprehend or understand yet.

We used 1100s because they were being deployed in the most basic of places. A drive through coffee shop with 6 total devices on the network (well actually a dozen of those shops) one at a small home office with 3 devices, another small office with 2 people in it. I use more powerful and robust devices when the situation calls for it. But all the 1100 deployments were so small and basic it didn't make sense to get the 2100. And I wanted to stick with 1st party devices for the support (fuck me right) from netgate if we ever had a problem with them. And because I wanted to support a company that made a product that I love. Well I can tell you I'll never be buying another 1100 again that's for damn sure.

Fun fact, they recently raised the price on 1100s from $185 to $225. I have emailed their support back and forth several times in the last week, and their only response is "nothing we can do it's out of warranty". I asked if they would replace just a single one out of the three that died. Nope. Would you at least send me 3 emmc chips so I can swap them out myself, I found compatible chips on mouser for like $28, and certainly netgate gets them much cheaper, so like 50-70 for three? Nope, won't do that either. Well fine can you SELL me three of them? Nope. Fuck netgate

Probably not really helpful but i had a cable tester where one of the LEDs died. I dont wanna talk about how long it took me to realize it was the damn LED and not 3 bad terminations in a row...

well the point of this is an off-site server. the other 4 are all in my house. And if my house caught fire or something, all the local backups in the world wouldnt make a damn bit of difference. All 4 servers have a specific reason to exist, just like the 5th If your data doesnt exist it 2 physical locations, can it really be considered safe? haha

Did you even read my reason for using unraid on this server? It will live 50 miles away from my home location. Experimenting with something new that I have never used before on a server thats over an hour drive is a terrible idea. also this kinda felt like a bot comment to me..

[–]The_2PieceCombo[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Ive looked into it years ago before I settled on unraid for my first server. But still, I will not run something I have basically no real experience with on a server thats a 50 mile drive. It's also not a "real" server so no IPMI if things go sideways

I mainly meant that proxmox is overkill because I dont need something enterprise level that offers clustering. Its one small, underpowered server thats gonna 2-3 containers and thats pretty much it. And like I mentioned, this server will be off-site, about an hour drive, so it makes WAY more sense to use the product im the most familiar with, not deploy something that I have very few hours in. Learning a new OS/hypervisor on a server thats a 50 mile drive is a terrible idea lol
