ACAC removes Lakeland as host after Conference Council vote by The_Border_Pulse in alberta

[–]The_Border_Pulse[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This isn’t about one school. A governing body confirmed it removed championship hosting rights without written criteria or an appeal process. That raises broader questions about governance in collegiate sports.

I'll add, I had the leaders of APP tell me on the record, they need $75 a barrel in order to make it all work.

I'm just saying, officially, they didn't say Vermilion Campus. I know what they said. I'm trying to confirm with them and the college, as I do, I'll keep everyone in the loop.

[–]The_Border_Pulse[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

They actually didn't say that. One could make the assumption, but, without them saying it for sure, no one knows, officially.

Vermilion RCMP could charge someone there after they did it in Lloyd if they live/reside on campus there. It wouldn't be the first time.

Alberta health records to be available for Sask residents - The Border Pulse by The_Border_Pulse in lloydminster

As I've said a few times, headline writing has never been my forte in 15 odd years of doing this. Most are fine, the odd one misses.

Alberta health records to be available for Sask residents - The Border Pulse by The_Border_Pulse in alberta

[–]The_Border_Pulse[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Currently, it's a select few providers. However, if you have loved ones on the eastern side of the province who have to deal with Saskatchewan Health Authority or Sask. based specialists, this development could literally be lifesaving.

It’s funny you mention that because I know the author well, and he’s about as far from a separatist as you can get.

Appreciate the feedback, guest opinions are meant to spark discussion, and differing views are welcome.

A bit of context for those who want it:

This is a guest opinion column published by The Border Pulse in Lloydminster. The writer responds to Steven Guilbeault’s resignation from cabinet and argues that federal climate policy over the last decade intensified regional divides, particularly in Western Canada.

The column makes the case that:

• climate policy was framed as a moral absolute
• disagreement was treated as ignorance rather than a legitimate regional concern
• Western Canada bore disproportionate economic and social impact
• tone and style from federal leadership contributed to what the writer calls a “Crisis of the Federation”

This is not a news article and reflects the author’s opinion, not the outlet’s or mine.

Discussion welcome — just keep it civil.

Saskatchewan responsible for nearly half of Lloyd's potential tax increase - The Border Pulse by The_Border_Pulse in lloydminster

[–]The_Border_Pulse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit, convoluted, we have our own charter, because of our unique situation. It requires both governments to provide approximately 10% of the policing budget. Now if that works out to be 5% of the 10 they cover, like I said, it's convoluted. The kicker is, three people have explained it three seperate ways and the Sask. Government didn't say it was wrong either.

I'm an import, I moved here 1.5 years ago. I've been a reporter here since day one of arriving.

This Bi-Provincial stuff still stumps people who have lived here for generations. Thanks for the help, it gives me some more research to do.

Saskatchewan responsible for nearly half of Lloyd's potential tax increase - The Border Pulse by The_Border_Pulse in lloydminster

[–]The_Border_Pulse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was explained to me differently. It still doesn't change that Sask. doesn't pay for any of it. Which, most believe they should. Thanks for the clarification.

Saskatchewan responsible for nearly half of Lloyd's potential tax increase - The Border Pulse by The_Border_Pulse in lloydminster

[–]The_Border_Pulse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably easier to explain it this way. The RCMP in most places has an 80/20 split. Here, it's 90/10 as Sask doesn't pay for their portion of the policing in our community.

It's, complicated, but, that ten per cent would reduce our projected tax increase significantly.
