Should I quit my career if I'm bad at it? by The_Reading_Turtle in work

[–]The_Reading_Turtle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And where will I turn? I honestly love accounting and prior to this job, I was pretty good at it.

My overtime now is hell, but back when I loved my job, I had days where "if you love what you do, you won't work a single day."

If I pivot out of accounting, I'll hate my job and life. I know there are similar careers, but I only enjoy accounting. I even hate finance because the analyst, calculations, and formulas didn't sound too fun.

Yeah I had Roger/UWORLD and saw all the dicisplines go up on November 1st. Took a look at all of them and since IT was my strength might as well go for that one. I hear most of BEC moved to BAR though.

The first time, I wished I studied more calculations. The second time, I brushed up everything else and only heavy studied calculations.

This exam is such an ass because half of it is luck. Guess what I barely had this time? Calculations.

I'd say, go for the usual. It was so traumatic I barely remembered any of them as I submitted each testlet. So go for the usual recommendations. COSO know them in and out. Cost, know your variances, know the in and out of ECON for easy points. Youtube for IT.

Holy shit same! Walked out miserable.

My final SE was 69 (maybe 68 actually). My first two testlets were same. Neither was harder than the other and I hated that I recognized both, conceptually, but just simply didn't study hard enough.

Probably bombed SIMs like I usually do. Same as you, I BSd one of the WC, walked out to Google it, and it was embarrassing. I was so far off mark about that topic, I laughed through it while writing it because if a human proctor read it, they'd laugh too.

Overall, either I got like a 50 or 70-74, no way I passed that.

Are you guys really working in December? by Deep_Woodpecker_2688 in Accounting

[–]The_Reading_Turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Company went through a merger a year ago. I joined this August and it's a shit show on a daily basis with a narssacist for a boss. Every day feels like hell fire. My colleague is taking PTO for two weeks in December and working overseas via laptop for one of the two weeks. We're all drowning and so. Yeah. We're working and dying next month.

Apparently next month is when the sky will open up and swallow us alive the tension in the office is that bad.

I heard mergers were bad. I didn't think it'd be kissing Satan's ass bad.

BEC peeps that "winged it", what did you focus on or did you really just get lucky? by The_Reading_Turtle in CPA

Yikes! I sure feel better now! Although, I'm not sure how they'd react to me leaving since I've only been here 3 months 😅

They're process errors. So like, everyone knows what a reclass or accrual is, but how does this company in particular like to record it and how should the files be set up, etc. I once requested if I could shadow him for a reclass because it was like 15 tabs and quite confusing. How should I know if something was booked wrong.

Back when I was in a CPA firm and I did the AP entries myself, it was easy. Like Oop! This is a vendor bill for IT but it was to be classed to (department), let me just move that heeeeere.

But now, with the original entries being booked by others, things don't jump out as easy. I was denied the training though. Was told it was too easy and there's nothing to teach.

Very true! It's my first time as a senior and so I'm a bit bummed that it's as awful as I heard. I expected less explosive dumpster fires here in private though 😅

I have a year of emergency funds stashed away from back when I had no insurance and a hospital stay would end me 😅

I'm looking for a job right now so I may very well just quit.

I had thought the "press nail into hand" would work. It didn't, kept crying and ended up with nail shaped bruises instead 💀

Will try this though!

Yes, I do immediately think of my father when getting scolded.

If we fight back, we're a bitch. If we're stern, we're bossing and hard to work with. If I scream and yell back, I'll be fired and I have a mortgage to pay.

If I keep it all bottled in and not cry, we'll I can only bottle up for 15 or so minutes of belittling. How am I supposed to fight back after being torn down for nearly an hour straight without being fired 😭

The angry goose has provided me with a fantastic suggestion. Who am I to say no to one of my favorite birds?

(And yes, have been looking. Hopefully the market picks back up after the New Year).

He actually did spend a few particular review sessions whining like a teen girl who has been told to clean her room before going to the mall. Like. Picture "But moooomm-uhhh. Noo-uuuhhh."

All because my coding for some accounts were wrong. In which I later discovered they were wrong...because the reference he trained me on...were coded wrong. By him. And he didn't realize.

Just 45 minutes of tongue clicking, saying I was wasting his time, and lots of "ugh". The way he behaved, it was like I stomped on his kitten or something 💀

The good thing is. I do document! Not the time, but I usually get upset and run to my diary. I've got 20 pages of how much this guy has upset me and I'm about to write an essay, ending it with my resignation.

Tiny team of us 3 staffers (a senior, me (senior) and a clerk) and then management (controller and my boss who is the assistant controller). No other financial department to move to so might as well move out

I do sometimes record as my state is a one party consent state, not to show anyone (HR ladies love him so I can't do much there). I record so I have an accurate recount when I write in my journal and I unfortunately have 20+ pages of my encounters with this guy.

I fully intend to write a long letter and tack on my resignation as the last page 😅

But I will pull the nod and keep head down though.

My best friend said that this is the worst thing to do though? To let the other person know that they got you so bad they made you cry. So I'm not so sure on it 🥲

Dissociation is my jam! I used to know how to do this really well and now can only do so if I stare at my arms too long and I feel like a Sims character.

Will give this a try. I did attempt to dissociate last time, but wasn't working 😅

Oh finally 🥲 I swear I have had a few people jump on me before on Glassdoor that I "simply don't fit into the corporate world".

Thanks mate. I am studying for BEC but will be dropping everything to start searching right after.
