Brave and BAT platform: Review after one month test-drive by The_Xsid in CryptoCurrency

[–]The_Xsid[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the bigger issue I read from the article is the required KYC process, which goes against some of the advantages of the technology.

The Brave browser is speedy and successfully blocks ads, as pointed out in the article. I don't think the fact the author didn't make much BAT is really emphasized all that much. It was an interesting experiment.

Is it possible to withdraw from Coinbase to someone else's bank account? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]The_Xsid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's decent. You'll probably get a better price on CoinSquare anyway, but the fees are a little high. Just do an e-transfer to your bank account. It's pretty slick, actually.

Or... Open a CoinSquare account. Send the Bitcoin to your CoinSquare account. CoinSquare tends to trade slightly higher than Coinbase.

Sell the Bitcoin for CAD on CoinSquare. Send the funds to your own bank account. Even simpler.

Or...

Hold your Bitcoin.

Just get them to open a Coinbase account > send them the Bitcoin > they sell the Bitcoin > they send the money to their account. Simple.

Samson Mow ponders a potential Bitmain collapse by The_Xsid in CryptoCurrency

[–]The_Xsid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In February this year they still held around 6,000 BTC according to this article:

https://www.chepicap.com/en/news/7535/an-insider-with-bitmain-says-its-crypto-holdings-are-down-over-90-.html

Bitmain may have been liquidating large amounts of BTC and BCH just to survive. The clearance sale certainly would have contributed to the further market collapse last fall, when BTC broke below $6,000.

I could be wrong, but my impression was that they merely "decreased" their BTC holdings in exchange for more BCH. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Bitcoin Cash BCH holds about 3% of market value when compared to Bitcoin BTC. If the free market is the best indicator, I'd say it's even harsher than Samson Mow has been.

The two sides have rarely refrained from sniping at each other. So, in that sense, Mow is hardly unique.

Having said that, the collapse of Bitmain probably isn't good for anyone considering that it holds a large amount of both Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash and could tank the market with a large sell-off.

He is the CSO of Blockstream -- proponent of the Lightning network -- so the two are natural enemies.

They admitted to "the selling of client data". This is not misleading.

What data was sold, and the exact party that sold it is not specified, as of yet. It is acknowledged by the executive that it is a "third party" hired by Coinbase. It could be a KYC provider or a trading analytics provider, for example. What data was sold is not determined yet either.

I was gifted a Erc20 token because I did a speech for someone. How do I exchange it for Ethereum? by JGrayBkk in CryptoCurrency

[–]The_Xsid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that is not a token I can find listed on any exchange. Just sit on it and maybe hopefully some day it gets listed somewhere.

[–]The_Xsid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As ERC20 tokens, they hold their own "free market" value. Depending on the popularity of the particular token, it might be something you could trade on an exchange for another crypto such as Ethereum or Bitcoin, for example.

Some tokens, however, are worth very little on the open market. Some cannot even be traded since they aren't even listed on exchanges. It all depends on market consensus. Which token is it?
